      I feel like precombat damage is good for chip damage as in flared sparrow to attempt to melt tanks a bit but not a free 34+(actual attack damage)

      Set pre combat damage is fine, it’s x% pre combat damage based on stats that should not have been added so early

    Honestly, I still feel a little sore over “pre-combat damage” but part of me does understand in the case of tank units like Emblem Ike.
    But full agree on Valentine’s Lyon and the turn cancelling effect. Wish we could go back in time and stop THAT tragedy from happening.

      To also prevent, we should also go further back in time and stop Edelgard from getting 2 or 3 free actions in one turn. Dark and brave. We already have dancers for that. That way we don't give a reason for V!Lyon to exist 😂

      @@Dirtyboots3strikes To be fair to Edelgard (and I hate saying that), it wasn’t her Brave alt that had stackable Galeforce, it was her Legendary alt.
      But I agree. She needs to be stopped, but I just KNOW she’s gonna get another alt this year. Either she’s going to get a Bridal alt this month, a Tribal alt (a la Wind Tribe Claude), or a Halloween alt. I’m banking on those three because IS wants to keep giving her alts so she can show up on AHR.

      False start was fine, there was a hell of a lot of stuff to mute at the start of the turn and Elimine could only target a single column, her counterplay was "Put units with start of turn stuff in different columns".
      Then they released Freyr and they made sure to bury her deep underground

      @@noahcarroll4944 okay. so basically. ANYTHING that has negative statuses. (so Legendary Robin big example). any ploy, or guard/debuff skills from Hedir, Elimine's false start - Freyr just wipes it ALL away at the start of the turn. (so basically. you can apply it but right after you go , HE cleanses it all away). so a lot of those things that they prevent (Bride Catria/Christmas Cordelia's triangle attack support, anything that allows extra terrain or +1 movement) is open season on you. the one BRIGHT spot is - he's locked to Anima season.(and chaos). I hope this clears things up.

    how could you not mention start-of-combat damage. like legendary Camilla’s gimmick is that your health is gonna be almost nothing by the time her first attack even happens and that’s just kinda messed up, and more units have gotten it since like the dreaded duo Lyon

    I think the game would have been fine if we just had Flared Sparrow and thats it, for precombat damage. But now we need to run Occultist's/Assassin's Strike and any other forms of it just to stay meta.

    Eh, i will agree Elimine was messed up with the False Start nonesense but i say it was as oppressive as Mila's Isolation effect on basically all dancers/low def assist users.
    Why i argue tho? Well, atleast you could TRY to counter Elimine by buffing Res. Also, she only hit ONE lane on HER turn so you had to consider who was more important to stop and good counters were to ensure each lane had something important/good to get the opponent to make a choice on what was needed to be false started or not.
    I understand she needed to be countered and it makes sense no one else has come with the effect yet but nah.....i say Freyr is waaaaay more problematic. If Elimine shot off False Start on player AND Enemy phase, yea, it'd be understandable to release Freyr like that but like Elimine....Freyr just shuts down a lot of things. Unlike Elimine tho...you can't even counter his effect....which is stupid.
    Weird that they felt False Start was too strong but have given us 4 different units who can just end turn you with out your consent is wild lol
    But yea....i understand Elimine was an extreme answer to Catria balls and problem a double down on stopping L!Sig at the time but i think Freyr was too much as well AND is uncounterable since his effect just works while Elimine actually took "strategy" to use and defend against if you put the effort in.
    That concludes my slight defense of Elimine lmao

    All right so I'm definitely going to be clowned for this take. Now i understand without the introduction of the skill and effect tanks would've probably be annoying to this day.
    I'm going to say Null follow up. Like we're at a point where we getting a half null follow up in weapons in skills. We still get stuff that deny follow ups but it's kinda irrelevant as a lot of characters have the skill straight out of the gate or as a support skill. I'm fine with null counter disrupt as it's more straight forward. I mean i don't think I've ever heard "They got the offensive ver. of null counter (not a good example but hopefully it made a little sense).

      Honestly, kind of agree.
      It just too much of a problem solver for speed-based units, it becomes the default skill. You aren't a godsword/lance/axe without it.
      It's funny, Nihil, the skill that the Nulls are based off of, had the same issue in Radiant Dawn. Endgame bosses will just straight up kill you if you don't have it and they all had it in Mantle.

      I think if they made base NFU similar to the status [NFU], it would be manageable because let be real, until NFU, Spd was a VERY irrelevant stat and Armors were bar none the best unit type in the game with all the GFU effects.

      The real first problem was feh combining blocking follow ups and getting guaranteed follow ups. That's what even forced this to happen.

      @@Luigicat117 Yup, if the GFU effects worked like how the new Potent/Rifts effects worked, all of this would have been a lot more manageable. (Funnily enough, these new effects are just repackaged Phantom Spd if you squint)

    The stupidest thing is that they went on to make ruse 4 so clearly IntSys was fine with directly targeting Catria... so why didnt they just make that Elimine's effect in the first place? Then they wouldnt have needed to over correct with the cancer named Freyr

      God man that's so true... His refine's gotta be so good to fix that, but it seems impossible to make it good enough it won't be irrelevant in under a year (why I think and also wish that Brave refines weren't so overly hastily released... It's like they made this early decision after CYL2, and they felt they couldn't tweak that even if it's for the better cuz... traditions/patterns.. it's not too late tho IS..) and also not so extremely broken he is an automatic win button that you can throw solo into AR-O and enemy phase a full defense team of nukes and one support/Dancer for months on end/they have to make ANOTHER unit or skill as a counter to him.
      Making Brave units wishywashy on release or within barely a few months after, just so that they are more justified in buffing them with a refine in almost exactly 2 years is just... I kinda hate that. Just so they can be barely on the level of the current meta, if they're lucky. Which is why I loved the last CYL so much. They're all genuinely good units who've all aged pretty well. Gullveig maybe 4th place, but.. it is what it is. The only one from the current batch on schedule to be refined this year is Chrom, and all he needs honestly is something to make him work well to where he can use a tier 4 link skill. That could seriously be his best/most optimal B skill.

    Ward Skills are pretty much useless against Dragons, sure you fight back _if_ you survive your lower defensive stat being checked. All I'm saying is that they're cooking up something so broken with Defiant 4...

    i gave up on aether raids years ago. now i just see how much of the content i can beat with meme teams... i only invest in sword infantry. spent at least an hour last night trying to see if i could beat infernal fallen Lloyd with my team of 4x sword infantry, but i wasn't willing to inherit units out of my collection to get spd/def unity or atk/spd unity to get the job done.

    Tbh I more so ask "why do they push these effects" than "why do these effects exist".
    Pre-combat damage stacking:
    The idea itself was fine. But why can you stack them when most modern units only cap at like 50-60 HP
    Warping:
    FEH maps are too small for them to abuse this effect this much.
    Special Jumping / Scowl:
    At this point everyone just feels like they have a 1 cooldown special.
    If there's one effect that makes me use the latter question...that goes to Pathfinder. Idk how ppl think abt that effect but i find that the way it works is really stupid lmao

    I won’t lie, I love Elimine and I still (begrudgingly) use her on my Astra teams even with Freyr out. False start is really good that’s not a lie, but the main units it hindered were already incredibly broken and needed a counter.
    I also got Bride Catria so late into her being the meta that by the time I did, I just didn’t want to use her. I still to this day don’t like that effect, but I totally understand why people used it.
    Freyr is the real villain in this whole ordeal because by taking away the thing that countered so much of the meta, accidentally brought back those units that were nerfed. I saw Catria teams pop up everywhere after his release. Elimine didn’t deserve them countering her into essentially being useless nowadays. Really excited for the inevitable remix where I’m hoping they really take time to make her a useful unit again.

    The recently released Loki alt makes the "end action" even more annoying. It activates on both enemy and player phrase meaning there is no counter play if the enemy or AI decides to drop Loki in cardinal directions of your units.

      0 Ftp units can tank lyon, at least one ftp unit can one round an Ike

      Come on, it's not like it doesn't exist a counter for Ike.
      If your units have a value of Def or Res of 45 or higher, I recommend Ignis or Glacies .I tried Ignis with my +10 Corrin and it totally works.
      If it's not the case use Astra or AoE specials :)

    Elimine wasn't a problem. She was annoying but given how easy AR is apparently with Galeforce strats I don't see the issue.
    Then again FEH meta players also complain about how absurd dealing with defense teams are so who knows.

    Emblem Ike: “Nervous sweating”
    I literally have to surrender 2/3 of the time because almost nobody I have can beat him like my brother in Christ what were they thinking.😅
    I like the idea of emblem hero’s on paper but they just feel like another overpowered cash benefit for whales and the off chance that you’re even lucky enough to get “ONE” you can’t even fodder them cause you’d rather merge them.
    Burn damage is also stupid.🔥💀
    Edit “I also used duo Lyon during the tempest trials and couldn’t finish it as it took longer cause of the end turn effect stopping me from enemy phasing.😔

    for me the worst effect in the game is the "in combat" dmg before attacking it even shut down vantage...
    and the worst stuff over all in the game for me is refreshing

    Just in general, I think they shouldn't have made so many things trigger automatically. A tactics game should be about meaningful choices, and everything triggering automatically removes choice.
    I absolutely hated Save scumming when those skills came out. (I kinda still do.) Chain Guard from Engage did the idea better, where the "saving" unit has to specifically choose guarding another unit as their action.
    And it's especially silly on some effects like Rally Spectrum, Assign Decoy, and the Dragon Vein series since those are _real Fire Emblem effects_ that you originally had to choose manually in their games of origin.

    I just found out in Path of Radiance when Ashnard get powered up by the Medalion he becomes Green but the Fire Emblem Heroes Developers decides not to do that for some reason.

      I took him down with my galeforce cordelia with speed/def form + dancer + Chad with his -14 def/res and new years ash with her warping ability

    As far a "we need to release a counter but we do much more damage than intended", False start was bad but not as bad as stated here. It could have only stopped buff sharing at start of turn, for example not shutting down OG!Ophelia. But yeah, it had to counter Hardy Fighter too. Anyway, you could win the res check or just have threats that needed to be shut down on multiple columns, so it had counterplay.
    Freyr was much worse. No counterplay here. Could have had some weird check thing like M!Veyle has.
    On countering tanks in general, start-of-combat damage has, again, no counterplay. So it is a bad solution.
    I don't know what "end your turn" is meant to counter, but it is not fun to play against, as it makes you just not play. Not playing a game when playing a game is not fun, who knew.
    Although it *is* a bad mechanic, it felt manageable on Foomortis because:
    - you chose when or how to initiate on him
    - it will not activate if you kill him
    With thing making it less manageable are:
    - Foomortis is hard to kill.
    Now we got it on D!Lyon and the counterplay is:
    - it will not activate if you kill him
    With things making it less manageable are:
    - 5 range
    - Res check for being even able to counter
    - Unavoidable start-of-combat damage
    - Unit also hits like a truck just on plain old "raw" numbers
    So D!Lyon probably kills you on first hit.
    I kinda lost the point I wanted to make.
    TL;DR: Elimine was not bad (strong effect), Freyr was worse (broken effect). Foomortis was bad (broken effect), but Freyr is probably worse (broken effect). D!Lyon is absolute worst, combining strong effects with broken effects.

      Ah! also, Triangle strike and the other (dual? duo? strike) are and were not as bad. They were strong, not broken effects. You could weaken a Catria ball and then tank it, or galeforce it. Or even just tank it, as I was doing in quite a few matches (low dolphin investment).

    i dont like when mechanics are tied to a single unit on your team. things like sacred seals, emblem effects, summoner support, and cpatain skills. i wish i could apply these things to every unit on my team.

    Gonna die on this hill and say. Elemine was healthy "strategic" counterplay to whatever shit show the buff meta was becoming. She was absolutely necessary. Running mutiple elemine isnt even a viable strategy.

Then got a second chance only to be butchered even worse the second time with the Japanese version getting the crappy changes too and sold horribly because of it but still refuses to go on sale for a reasonable price... And it wasn't fe warriors.

    Elimine countered most Anima strategies. Zelda CDI "Good." AR-D strategies should be easily counterable because AR-D strategies are inherently unfun for everyone involved. The weaker AR-D is, the better, and i don't know how anyone can disagree with that.

    I don't like all the silly movement crap, that teleports like half the enemy team across the entire map in one turn. Maps should be bigger to stop that nonsense. Also having to do some lengthy math to work out if your unit is going to die or not is stupid. It's too much, there should be a limit to it, it's a game, not math class.

      You're not wrong. Since maps are still the same size, units being able to teleport due to skills or units in addition to Pathfinder + Canto + dancing is very ridiculous. When there are that many effects stacked, keeping track of all the possible movement patterns is just exhausting, if not impossible.

    all effects based around the enemy needing to kill one of your units are just irrelevant. i mean summoner duels is so underpopulated that i can just go into summoner duels r instantly scoop and get middle of the road rewards because pvp in fire emblem is just inherently bad in a game that is build around moving 10 units before the opponent does anything. so i would argue that lyon actualy has a good effect as that used correctly on offense can be such a cool strategy adn its not like its just free as you can't just dance him to shut down 2 units with the second trigger still hitting the same unit
