the entire "the new tetris" ost is so good. excellent mix. considering these are for video game soundtracks, they're very melodic compared to 'normal' releases of the genres at this time which i think is interesting.
It was fun to make progress through The New Tetris, because every time you unlocked the next stage you got a cool 3D cutscene, a nice atmospheric background, and most importantly a great piece of music along with it.
OMG as as junglist of 30 odd years who today leans toward the mellow/intelligent side, I gotta say these tracks are absolutely sick. Reminds me of the Artcore series of compilations.... SO GOOD !! JAH BLESS !!
This is the music that they would be blaring out at my local game store in 1998 in London. Back when you had cool game shops with staff that were not trying to sell you accessories, merch and memberships. The shop was dark with industrial steel flooring and every game was inside an acrylic secuirity box. I would spend hours deciding on just one game for the next few months. They even had a basement for the "Retro" stuff which was basically full of the 8 and 16 bit games, whereas upstairs was for the PS1 N64 Saturn and Gameboy. It is where i got my copy of Pokemon Yellow near release, if only i kept the box!
Yes what Peero N says. The Super Potato chain of retro gaming stores in Japan. Spent hours there looking at box art. Though they didn't have the DnB blaring, would've been icing on the cake.
This shit was my go-to for the commute to and from college in my second semester. The duration of this playlist and the drive matched perfectly, and I got used to hearing certain songs while on particular stretches of the road.
Really like how you did more with this than merely having a sequence of songs with brief silence in between, haven't seen a mix like this in awhile. Really flows together seamlessly in a way I forgot that I appreciate. I did notice some transitions had some sort of crackling / popping sound but maybe it was just me.
That Sakai stage theme is an absolute bop... So many of the tunes in here are! Maximum respect for the mix, despite being a n64 kid, most of these tunes are unfortunately in games I never had so a lot of new stuff to me!!
LOVE that this opens with Deadly Arts' OST! That game was one of the worst fighters I ever had the displeasure of slogging through, but I loved it to pieces for the dope soundtrack. I remember spending hours as a kid just going into the sound test menu and vibing to the OST. kaoru's theme was probably my favorite, and i loved the whole lower key atmospheric sounds of many tracks from the game. reminds me of another clunky fighter that had some awesome choons, tekken 4.
@@fistofthenorthstar6537 Oh yeah, Tekken 4 was a definite black sheep of the series. The game felt as though you were fighting underwater, and the smooth atmospheric music didn't do much to help that sentiment.
