Currently I just finished my Klipsch 5.1 setup. I like the sound so far but am still second guessing myself if I should have went up on the receiver. I am not sure what I am missing out though as this is my first surround and not just a sound bar.
I picked mine up on Amazon for $159 back in 2019. Was used-like new, but arrived brand new. Its been awesome so far. Biggest complaint I hear is the GUI isnt great but its definitely usable if you know what you're doing. Power output is definitely lower at 8 ohms than the 145 advertised at 6. Great pick up for a budget Atmos set up.
Hello everyone. I want to improve the receiver for Christmas, I have an old ONKYO HT-590 (16 years old). I've been thinking for a year now and choosing between SONY STR-DH790 and DENON 1700DAB :-). I have owned a SONY TV for 3 years and wanted the best possible compatibility with the receiver. I only have the receiver for the signal from the TV and I need new ATMOS and bluetooth. I have Polk Signature 8 Ohm speakers. I don't mind the regular terminals on the DH790. I plug it in once and I'm done. I don't even need HEOS apps etc. I don't have a chance to listen and compare. Can anyone recommend SONY versus Denon? Thanks in advance... Martin

Thank You. If the LG 645 fits your needs...go for it but it doesn't offer Dolby Atmos and no way to upgrade for the future. It also doesn't support 4k movies. It's good as a starter system as we have to start somewhere.
@@audiovideotech9777 Theres some very good points you made there. I guess it isnt very well future proofed. And being used to an amp before I might notice a drop in quality with an all in one.

@@audiovideotech9777 Thank you! I'm wondering if this receiver fits such signal source as a vinyl player ? How does the signal from a stereo source (for example vinyl player) spread among a 5 channels of receiver? I have this receiver, but now i have a problem, the receiver is not sending audio to the speakers, it says the headphones are connected but there are no headphones connected, i restart the system, disconected and still no audio
Can user add a amplifier to this STR-DH790? I have 4 tower speakers with 145watts each....then 1 center front speaker at 145watts … then 2 front left and right bookshelf speakers at 100 watts each …. and 1 subwoofer at 115 watts...… the specs of this Sony STR-DH790 says it gets 145 at 7.1 but only really pushes 90 watts. What would you suggest I do?
Wattage doesn't really matter, in that case. Unless you plan to go deaf. You will never put out less then a couple of watts. If 1 watt can put out 100db then you will be never over a watt.

Where’s your evidence test that it’s not 145 watts per channel ? And it’s only 70 watts per channel as you claim ? The Sony 1000 series AMP is only 125 watts per channel and that’s a whopping £750 Reduced from £1.000
Got this receiver today for $20 at Goodwill. Works ok so far, but it has no front panel controls for treble and base. You have to some how use a computer/ Tv screen and the remote to simply adjust treble/bass. That is world class stupid!
That knife flip surprised me lol... signature move? Thanks for the reviews.

I got this one and works great. Wish it had more DSP but overall sounds great and was only $424. 7.2 or 5.2.2 Dolby Atmos AVR..
I agree... its a good Dolby Atmos Avr to start with.
Just went out and bought it. Thanks
Found your channel looking for this exact question. Purchased tonight and will be following along the thread for further info. Thanks for the video.
Thank You....its a nice avr for starting out with Atmos and DTSX. What speakers are you going to be using?

Does it have app for the phone?
You can Bluetooth from your cell to it since it has Bluetooth. It does not have dedicated app like upper end AVR's have.
Where can you buy this?
You can still buy this Avr online. If you can find it used snag it up because it's still selling for $300-$400 new.
