Congratulations sir. I've been in the same situation, I've wanted one for years but the price for a complete set just was to steep and I didn't want that plastic smartboard one. Now I've saved up a little so now finally I will get one. How are you liking your e-board until now? The older usb version has a little slower sensors for recognising a move compared to the plastic Smartboard and the newer USB-C versions. How do you assess the delay of recognising a move with this board? And I wonder how fast the sensors from the bluetooth version are. Anyway have fun enjoying your board.
Lovely...but surely your computer should be able to play that DVD? Most can! I'm thinking that folks might want to be away from the Internet influence...and merely play against the computer without having to link up to a website etc. I believe that a DGT model is available with something like Stockfish already incorporated in it [elo: about 3000?!]. Now that would suit me, [& probably many others!] very well! If you play against someone in correspondence, you never know if they're using assistance i.e. computers, databases, grandma, etc, so one might as well play versus the computer, especially if you can alter the playing strength of it! Presently, however, the cost of these machines is pretty high, especially for a pensioner like me!! Also, with windows 11 rearing its ugly head, it seems that the system is more able to spy on clients, so I'm informed! Well, I certainly don't want my chessgames being sent to Carlsen, Kasparov etc to have them benefit from my brilliance!?? Guess I must be patient & wait for the price to plummet somewhat!
Hi ...thanks for the comment...I actually use the board with a dgt pi chess computer....no laptop is used anymore....it has just a simple lcd screen. For settings and piece move info etc. It's great as I can power it by a battery pack and sit in the garden ...no Internet in sight!! All the best

I just ordered mine. i am not a superb player but I want to play over the board but also on the computer. And I felt DGT is the best since it is the FIDE standard. I ordered the timeless weighted pieces. It should be here next week! yeeeeee!

I was playing earlier today with a weak engine 'Honey x5i_x64' and it was a most enjoyable game! Great fun! How are you getting on with the set and board looks top notch chris what chess engine do you play against, I use droidfish with a wooden set and board droidfish automatically saves the game so I can see how badly I played lol
Hi Roy....at the moment i am using shredder....i prefer it as i can see my progress (it increases the Elo slightly over time - as i am very weal lol...its nice to see this) also the rabbit plug in is more intuitive - when using shredder it will hi lite in red a move. With Arena chess it does not and you can get a bit lost sometimes and the program gets confused - or is it just me? Lol....Any way its been fantastic so far. Another plus is I often play against my stepson when stays at the weekends (he’s in our social bubble) its a joy to play even when not using the computer!! You cannot beat a full size wooden set....Cheers
Hi Tim and thanks...the stickes are supposed to be used to place the pieces alternatively. Apparently you can get issues with for example two of the same colour pawns. The rf tag used can conflict and get spurious results and ghost pieces appearing on the pc . I have had a few issues but it's easy to fix. Just swap the pieces to solve it.. Hope this helps....cheers

Great purchase. Like you, I had been wanting one of these for many years. Last year, I found one with the heavy-weighted plastic pieces and had some credit card rewards that were close to expiring and ended up getting the DGT smartboard, piece, and the carrying case for a little over $200. It was an incredible bargain. The DGT smartboard is a faux wooden plastic, but it's so solid, you think it's a wood board. The plastic pieces are heavy and I ended up liking them better than I expected. I absolutely love this thing. I can play against other PC engines on my board and also download many free UCI engines that are closer to my strength.

I find the true joy in emerging myself in the drama of each game, win or lose. It compels me to analyze my own thinking process and learn why I make blunders. It's such a beautiful game to play! If you haven't bought the DGT Pi for the board, I highly recommend it! It works beautifully and has several chess engines. Texel and Rodent are my favorites. Rodent has many many different "personalities."
