  • My name is Kody and I was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 21 years old. I wanted to interview my wife Allyson about her recent Autism diagnosis, and talk about our NEW PODCAST: NeuroBlend Podcast!
    Crowdfunding for podcast: igg.me/at/neuroblend/x/356497...

    I have schizophrenia and my boyfriend has bipolar... I have taken care of him in his bad periods and he has taken care of me. He has struggled with addiction which he has overcome now. We are evolving together.... It's so great to hear your stories... thank you for your bravery and thanks for sharing 😊

    I love that the two of you have decided to have a outlet to advocate for both of you individually and as a couple navigating life. I am a woman with ptsd and bipoler (i have psychosis as part of bipolar) and my partner, he has autism, psychotic depression and anxiety. So this podcast will be very close to home for us for thanks for putting this out there. I'm particularly looking forward to you discussing being care givers for each other as we feel that's something within our relationship people on the outside don't understand so thanks Kody and Alison for being the voice of others.
    Ps kinda off topic bit the two of you are so cute togeather. You can see the love between you through the screen and that really has made this depressed woman's day. Thanks to you both for the smile ❤

    Possible topic: I would love to hear how you both navigate traveling/flying with different disorders. Another one: I want to hear how Allison navigates sensory issues or masking as an adult.

    This podcast sounds like such a fantastic idea. I’ve just began my autism assessment. I’m a 24 year old woman living in Ireland. Hearing Allyson’s story and other neurodivergent perspectives makes this whole experience less intimidating. I’m new to your channel, can’t wait to see more 🤎

    My bf was just diagnosed with schizophrenia this summer and it has been so hard. He thinks I’m on the spectrum but as an adult, as Allison says, it’s so hard to get testing done. Your channel has been such a comfort to me during this time and I’m excited to hear Allison talk about caring for you while being on the spectrum. And vice versa! My bf and I will follow along on your journey:) thank you for being an advocate!!!

    I’m “self-diagnosed” Autistic as of last year (I’m almost 40), and I related so much to what what talked about. The point about self-isolating because masking wasn’t an option was spot on! Love your support for each other! Also, the Dani Squish 😄

    OMG, just like me! My aspie a*s spilling my coffee, tea, whatever I'm holding! It's so embarrassing on those rare occasions when I'm out in public, spilling coffee and bumping into things! 🤣
    I'm also childlike in many ways, and I'm almost sixty. I heavily mask and try to act like those around me. Sometimes I fail miserably!😅 😂

    So I am a paramedic working on a 911 ambulance. I also have a bachelors in psych and working on my masters in therapy. Right now I’m putting together a continuing education class for the first responders and Emergency department staff on patients with mental health. Especially patients we are called for a mental health emergency. A big part of my class now includes trying to help ems personnel have an understanding of what things may be like or feel like from the side of the person with the mental health emergency, hopefully helping people gain more empathy and understanding. If you could offer a piece of advice for EMS when in that situation that you feel could make the biggest difference what would it be?

      There are lots of overlapping symptoms between schizophrenia/schizoaffective and autism. Schizophrenia is a common comorbidity of autism as well.

    My daughter has high-functioning autism and ADHD!! Did you have any delayed development? Talk late? Walk late, etc? My daughter wasn’t diagnosed till 17. She also has depression and severe anxiety. My younger daughter has BPD II. Didn’t know autism has a genetic component. My husband has ADHD. His sister has an Autistic daughter, non-verbal. Does anyone else in your family have Autism?

    8:26 i think it’s unfortunate that having traits like being bright and bubbly, or being into certain things as a 29 year old isn’t normalized. the fact that you felt forced to mask just shows how unwelcoming society can be towards different behaviors and personalities. it’s unfortunate, very brave for both of you to step up and talk about your experiences.

    Kody, I'd like to create some cool fictional characters with mental disabilities, because sadly the most famous and most relatable characters are still villains and present our disorders in a very negative light. I don't know how to do that in a respectful and authentic way, however. I'm hoping watching your videos will help. I myself am diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, and I don't have hallucinations, just religion-based delusions and extreme mood problems. I was also diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at some point.

    • @gigahorse1475
      @gigahorse1475 4 месяца назад

      Please do create those characters! I’m sure you’ll do a great job with it since you have experience. I created my own characters (one with schizophrenia and one with autism). The schizophrenic character is a comfort character to me since I have schizophrenia and there’s very little good representation.
