Morning Guys. That was really helpful - thanks. Glad you thought about the aerodynamics with the mounting position of the aerial - wouldn’t want to increase your tiny drag coefficient!
@@WanderbusAdventures No van yet, we are busy moving home. There's some nice vans and minibuses out there. Just waiting for the right one. I've been looking at a company called basevan, they've got some interesting stuff. Have a lovely Sunday. Big hugs from up North.
Nice work and I think your plan B looks an excellent solution. I have a Poynting 4G antenna and Nighthawk router and get some quite outstanding download and upload speeds using EE, somewhat similar to yours. We don't have the benefit of Virgin fibre to the house and, like you, the mobile router was considerably faster than BT fibre broadband. Therefore, we now solely use the Nighthawk at home and in the van. Works out cheaper overall as well as better speeds! BTW, excellent 5G signal at Stratford-upon-Avon racecourse if you happen to head there again this year.
Thanks Peter, it worked out in the end. I like the idea of switching to EE, it would be cheaper and I might see if setting up a repeater in the house could mean we could switch. That’s good to know re. Stratford - very curious about what this can do in prime conditions but in reality this speed at 4g is still great news. This router uses the same processor as the nighthawk. Specs seem very similar, which is good. Thanks for the ideas as always, safe travels 🚐🚐🚐
Ah brilliant. I did spot someone else selling the same system on there, great find. Keep us posted on how it goes and what speeds you get - we are looking forward to finding some proper strong 5G 😊
It’s been good so far. In France the speeds were ludicrous as they’re better networked. The only time it slows, which is to be expected, is at festivals etc but it does its best to compete if that makes sense.
Ha, well it can take up to 32 connections - so technically yes (but by the rate the crew is going possibly not). From a financial standpoint we’d have to trade you for some of your fantastic food 😆
Brilliant, it really depends on the service in your area. Have found EE works well in most places in the UK and Europe, so bought a pre paid sim and this works well. What we have found is most van owners think the same, so when at shows or bigger campsites you might see a lag.
Is it essential to have the docking station ? Could you go from antenna to router ? Just wondering what this does , 🤔 ive got a nighthalk and ariel so yeah no box inbetween , not installed yet yeah just wondering as only just seen this
In this instance I think yes as the ends of the antenna have a different fitting that inserts into the station but wouldn’t fit the router. I will check this though - the station is also hard wired into my 12v so provides a handy connection point - you could just charge it via a usb c though. I think they’ve done it this way so you can easily dock and undock it, so you could use the router away from the van. You can obviously do the same with your nighthawk, but might want a way to mount it when in the van.
Great stuff thanks for the info I did get connectors tails so that it changes to a t9 fitting to fit the nighthawk just wondered if it boosted the signal or something as it looked pretty heavy duty 😁 Great stuff , just got my MOT and on road now just few extra bits now 🙏 thanks for all your tips and help has been great in my build your videos as ours are quite similar
Just installing mine but can't seem to find out if the power is working on the docking station blue power light not on but there is power to the cable 🤔
Thanks all tried it on the drive of up the Peak district on Thursday 👍 does yours stay connected all the time want to install a camera in the van seem to need to press the router every time I want to connect
Hy, just got my motorhome wifi 5g system installed and at the moment it’s very slow. This could just be where we are but not seeing any noticeable difference with the antennae. Will try when I get home and hopeful it will be better .
@@WanderbusAdventures I am with 3 so I will give it a go in different places and see how it goes. Whilst we were driving home from Edinburgh today partner got over 90mbs in the car as we towed the caravan so I suspect we picked up a 5g signal.
Hi mate I recently bought the 5G Ready Now antenna and just wanted to double check my product wasn’t faulty or missing something, the cable that runs from the antenna, the black and grey one, at the end of it should it have something that can plug into the router as is? Mine currently ends with two exposed bits of metal but I’ve seen other videos with a plug that will go into the top of the router
Morning. So ours came with the docking station and the antenna wires were both black and had push in connectors on the ends. On ours these push directly into the 5G router itself. Do you have the same router?
Yeah I’ve got the same router, I’ll have to have another look, but the cable that is along the wall at 9:50 is this running directly from the antenna. I’m thinking it’s my antenna power supply but unless I’m mistaken I can’t just plug it in as the two strands of cable just have exposed metal at the end
Ah yes. This is a 12v power supply - it is not directly connected to antenna. So on the other end you should have a power adapter that goes in your router. The cradle with the magnet should have two cables with copper connectors on the end - they look like tiny coaxial connectors.
@@WanderbusAdventures Oh so the two exposed cables are normal? Or should I have a piece that those two wires go into? Or do they go into the docking port/router that I’ve got provided?
I HONESTLY can't think of ANYTHING worse for the health of your brain than sitting in a metal box and being bombarded with 5G signals.. QUOTE: We bought ours 'second hand' but as new from another van owner that decided not to fit it to his van. Did you stop for ONE moment to wonder why?! QUOTE: but to be honest the speeds already achieved over 4G are as quick, or indeed much quicker, than the average home fibre broadband. Phones don't need 5g - but the government DO
Thanks for sharing your concerns. We understand that people have varying opinions on 5G technology. The system works well for our needs, especially if we have to work from the van. The technology might not be right for others, and that is fine too. Thanks again for sharing.
I think when using this system you really should wrap your head and feet in tinfoil so that the signal cannot transit through your body, I find that standing rigidly upright with a baking tray on my head also helps, this is evidenced by the fact I use 5g and still haven't died, it definitely must be because I took precautions 😂 seriously, calm down and don't believe all the conspiracy theories?..... great video and really useful info, I'll definitely be looking into this system
@@no1peo Spot on! The energy levels emmited from the antenna are so low that i barely makes a difference. The antenna is also "outside" the motorhome, meaning your are somewhat "protected" . Also the antenna emmits radiowaves most when its uploading at full speed. @jakupejohannesen8943 amazing. Yes where the video was filmed it’s 4g at best. Have seen speeds like yours in other parts (not many) of the UK and in Europe it’s unreal. It still boost the speed really well, so makes a bad signal better for sure. That’s incredible speed - bet you love it.
