She rapped in a Filipino language. It was so fast I didn't get what she rapped about. I am a Filipino, but the thing about this performance is that she owned the stage and brought a phenomenal performance that is, in my opinion, better than Adelle's original.

Yeah, man.... she is possessed. an artistic excellence, I say. So far from the original, which is still there, but it has become her very own! Imagine that. An Adele song. Amazing.

She plays the heavy autotune as an instrument with her voice, very intentionally, at the beginning of this.... & it's beguiling
.... then her latinising arrangement works where you'd think it had no chance
.... & her playing with that classic vocal melody then also works where you'd think it'd struggle- that jazzy chromatic walkdown on "there's a fire" is special
.... & then the Tagalog rap is crazy-impressive even tho unintelligible to any of us non-Filipinos.
In summary, when you add these factors up, this is one of the best live performances of a cover/re-working of a song I've ever heard. She for sure has a touch of genius about her. :)
KZ and Morisette are good friends and both are Bisaya, region in southern Philippines. They worked on the same TV station in Manila. She rapping in their Bisayan language.

You are the first one I have heard that got what she was doing in the opening part of her performance. Even some vocal coaches did not understand her creativity in her opening at first and right away adopted a negative face and comment. Just so you know, the auto tune at the beginning was an artistic choice. KZ is not only a singer, she's an artist. Her rendition of rolling in the deep in this instance is almost theatrical.
Here's my take on her performance which I believe has several creative layers: interpretation of the story in the song, melodic changes, vocal style, and stage presence. I want to share what I feel about how KZ interpreted the story.
The creative decision to start with an acoustic guitar and then the utilization of the auto tune is pure genius. The guitar implies romance that rolled into some sort of a bubble as soon as KZ begin singing with the auto tune. The transition is confusing- acoustic to auto tune - exactly what KZ wants to evoke (what happened after she gave her all in love?). The robotic sound effected by the auto tune is a reference for manipulation as KZ (who feels treated like a robot) sings "you played it... you played..." while standing still in that dark stage, her facial expression is sad and defeated. She wanted to break away from this unfortunate state.When KZ belts out a sustained note with the auto tune, that signals breaking away from the dark - she pushed it away (see her hand gesture before the sustained belt). The camera moved and rolled (underline rolled). The stage is now filled with streaks of light. She's free! She's no longer sad. But she's angry because something beautiful is all put to waste.
It takes a technical vocal skill to utilize an auto tune in a live performance especially when KZ is clear what feeling she wants to communicate with her audience. KZ "owned" this song right in the very beginning. The rap is just a bonus. My two cents.
