I just got into photography at 55 years of age and ordered the G9 with the Leica 12-60mm lens kit, the 25mm and the 100-300mm. I should be covered for now. Great video, very informative!
The Stigma 16mm/f1.4 is worth a mention. It is pin sharp and excellent in low light, even for astrophotography, which is usually a shortfall of M4/3 cameras.
I'm not sure if i would like it. It's seems a bit superior to 20mm/f1.7, but ... ... size and weight of 45-200? Ehh ... not exactly what I prefer :-( I don't know, I'm considering buying it for half year but when I realize how big and heavy it is I start to look for something else. Advantage of 20mm/f1.7 is that it does not scare people.
I bought a Panasonic Lumix G7 and Loved it so much i bought a 25mm f1.7 and a 45-150mm lens, then i bought a G85 got rid of the 25mm cause it was TOO close and bought the Neewer 35mm f.17 and JUST ordered from B&H some UV Filters and Polarizer Filter too. But I LOVE the Lumix Line-up I think Panasonic is VERY underrated. Nice Len's comparison i was wondering if anyone was going to Do something like this.
I have a mixture of primes and zooms. Like you, if they were all to be taken away and I could only keep one I would pick my 14-140. It's not best for all situations or types of photography, but I use it for 80% of all my shots and love it. It's sharp, has great dual ibis, good autofocus, and perfect for travel and landscape ... unless it's particularly low light conditions. Great lens. 🙂
I'm new to micro four thirds, making the switch from Canon with a G9 just a few weeks ago because I'm old and wanted lighter gear to deal with. Just picked up a used 14-140 from KEH. I love the lens, the extreme range and my photos are tack sharp! Crops at 100% in Photoshop look great! I also have the little tiny 12-32 zoom, sharpness is surprising for such a tiny little cheap lens. My biggest fear is I'll lose it out of my bag somewhere. LOL BTW, also love my G9, so many bells and whistles. I love how it can do 4K 60p, which is great when shooting fast moving objects, as I often do. IMO, it can do as much, if not more than a Canon 5D Mk IV at less than half the price. :-)
For a great all around, I go for 3 lenses: 15mm f1.7 for wide angle shots, lowlight landscapes, vlogging (kinda) (Cheap Alternative is the 14mm f2.5) 25mm f1.4 for almost all shots like portraits and lowlight shooting (Cheap Alternative is the 25mm f1.7) 45-150mm mostly for wildlife, macro or more reach in a landscape and this one is cheap too. I don't want anymore zoom lens because for me Primes are the most versatile lenses since it makes you move all the time to your subject.
I currently have the 12-60mm lens 35mm focal length. Is there any lens with similar focal length (35mm or 50mm) with lower aperture than atleast 2.4 or 1.8 for a reasonable price?
@@duatasolo1412 In full frame equivalent, the 14mm f2.5 (28mm full frame) is the best budget for me, it's fast, sharp and portable of its size, then the 25mm f1.7 (50mm full frame) is also the best budget prime for, sharp and portable too, I usually stick to Lumix native lenses because of its form factor.
@@johnvincentespiritu4768 yes, full frame scale. Thanks man. My only concern about small focal length lens is the portrait photography. is 28mm good enough for closeup portraits?? Was actually thinking for 50mm but that's got to be a prime lens which i cannot afford at the moment. Yes i want to stick with lumix too, i have g85. Would that 28mm lens be about $200?
@@duatasolo1412 for the lumix 14mm f2.5 is acceptable for portraits, you just need to get a little bit closer to the subject to get that bokeh background, also good for vlogging if you're in to that, I still recommend the 25mm since it has longer focal length and wider aperture for portraits, their price is quite the same but for my 14mm, I bought it for a bargain of 125$ (which almost the price of the 25mm of 150-160$ new) but maybe you can find the 14mm on a old Camera body which I see can sell for around 60$ or less.
I have several of the same, the 14, 25, 14-140 (superb and under appreciated), and the 100-300 ( not used a lot but very happy that I have it when I need it). I also have the Leica 8-18, which is on my G9 more than 50% of the time. My latest addition is the 45 Macro, which I am also very happy with. Oh, and I also have the 12-60, which came as the kit lens with my GX9. I also have the Lumix FZ1000, which I bought as a bestbuy open box for $300 a few years ago- I bought it primarily for its fixed lens, a Leica 25-400, F-2.8 - 4.0, which is a great camera to take on a long or difficult hike when you want to keep the weight down. I really enjoyed your video and how explained why you like each lens, their differences and included their costs. Great job!
I have completely different ones (historic order): 20mm/f1.7: great for social events, nice and natural angle, ideal for taking photos across the table. Extremely sharp. Downsides: slow focus, struggles to focus against strong point lights (e.g street lamps), useless for video 14-45mm/f3.5-?: light zoom lens I used with GF1. Mine is not sharp on one side, it struggled in low light, i never particularly liked it. Sharpness seemed better on G5 45-200mm/?: heavy, sharp only up to 120mm. I don't like carrying it, but it has some role. I'd like to replace it eventually. 12-35mm/f2.8: likely my most used ever. Versatile zoom, good for low light, good for video recording, but not as good as 20mm for social events. I'm using it mostly in winter. Problem: lens flare against light. And expensive (i think it's much cheaper today than in 2013) Olympus 45mm/f1.8: great for portraits, extremely sharp. 12-60mm/f3.5-5.6: Came with G80. As good as 12-35mm except low light situations, longer zoom, no downsides except obvious aperture. No issues with lens flare. If I miss something it's: - ultra wide something - sharper zoom, something like 70-300 would be nice. Or lighter 50-200 - return to smaller camera than G80 which is easy to carry. I found that GF1 with 20mm/f1.7 was most fun to use, despite G80 is technically superior in every way and more ergonomic as well. I'm afraid I can't explain it.
I like the 12-60mm f2.8-4 Leica lens. It seems to be the most versatile one for the best image quality and i saw it second hand here in Singapore for about 500USD so, not bad!
Thanks man. Great video. Got the 20mm f1.7, 12-60 kit and a 55smc takumar for fun vintage stuff and I'm looking around for my next lens. So difficult figuring out what my next step is. Seems the 12-35 would be good to replace the kit with.
I like your happiness and passion when you demonstrate this lenses. I have a question - did you always use Lumix lenses ? Never mixed Lumix camera with Olympus lens ?
I've watched this video and a few others 5 times now. I like how you smiled when you picked up each lens. There are a ton of lens options on this system, and I can tell you really enjoyed building your collection :). Did find the "studio setup" and then pan to "utilitarian storage setup" distracting. I'm selling my 14-140 and a 42.5 to get a 35-100. The 14-140 might be the travel king. But I also think for a single lens, the 12-100 from Olympus f4 pro is what I should have bought. "Thinking"..

For some reason, I find the images with the 14-140 a bit dull. They need more postproc (raw) to make them pop. The 12-32 2.8 and 35-100 2.8 really shine. The 100-300 is a fun piece. I use it more often than expected.
@@mouseykins01 To my surprise I had fun with it outdoors, picking out interesting bits of the landscape while sitting on a panoramic mountain top. It requires a different way of observing the environment. Much more attention to detail is required as the images will have reduced content - which suits my style, actually. Generally, I think it is useful in places that have a very wide and far overview with plenty of things in it. In more narrow situations it is useless.
I really love my Panasonic 9mm F1.7 lens. It's the perfect blogging lens. This lens offers a very wide angle, ideal for low light and can move in very close. It Worth every bit that I paid for it. I also like the 12-60mm F3.5 to F5.6 kit lens that came with my G95. White not a fast lens, it covers a majority of the range I'd want to use.
Might wanna have a look at Meike's 6.5mm fisheye, Laowa's 7.5mm f2 (insanely good), the 15mm f17, the mighty Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 for Canon with a speedbooster (=f1.3) and the Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12-60mm f2.8-4. Also love how the wall behind your is in focus - hoping for a good phase detect AF in the GH7 :)
I have a GH4 and a G100. I also have an Olympus 12-40mm F2.8 Pro lens. I do mainly talking head video interviews. I am trying to get an ultrawide for those situations where space is a problem. I am trying to decide between a Pana 7-14mm F4 vs an Oly 7-14mm F4. I haven't been able to find a review comparing the 2 lenses. Any suggestion?
Interesting to run across this channel as I just completed a field test of my 20mm f/1.7 and the 25mm f/1.7 on the Panasonic G85. I shot both at f/ 3.5 (I usually only shoot wide open with macro lens). Of six different subjects, the 20mm beat the 25mm in every category of shot taken. The 20mm rendered color depth and detail better than the 25mm. Frankly, I was surprised. Thanks for the presentation.
I also have the 20mm f/1.7, it's probably the best lens in terms of quality price ratio. It's incredibly sharp and very easy to use in various situations. I let it connected to my camera all the time to shoot or store the camera in my little bag. It's perfect for street photos or landscape.
It would benefit your videos if you made a nicer background to focus into. Maybe move the shelves forward to access them from behind. You could then put a light wall agaist yourself to hang up some testcarts, photos or small shelves for cameras etc. That would be nicer and cosier for youself too.
is your 12-35mm running the ois 1 or ois 2, do you think its worth upgrading to ois 2 if so? The price jump is significant and I'm working with a budget! Great video though just what I needed to help my research along
Would you say that the 25mm F1.7 would be a good addition for low light event videography with a GH5? I struggle with my current 12-60mm. Will mostly be for shooting the DJ, bands, the crowd etc.
Hi there, just so you know, you are probably stated the British prices but all the lenses are actually cheaper in the US and especially in Asia. Like 500$ (new) for the 25mm 1.4 for ex. People might get freaked out when they here those prices but the truth is they can be found much cheaper, especially second hand
Thank you for your review, There are so many other Lumix lenses, that you have not talked about. I undertsand where you are coming from. I appreciate your information. Good job!
looked like you had the extender option engaged whilst showing the 35-100 and the 100-300mm , so was not true representation of those? I do use the 1-300mm myself and love it, and am looking to add either the 14-140 or the 35-100
I think you’re right. For me of those two lenses the 14-140 is far more versatile. It’s my go to lens. But if low light is an issue then 35-100 can’t be beat.
wish you would have included olympus and sigma mft lenses, but especially I miss the small panasonic kit zoom lens 12-32 mm F3.5-5.6, as ours is a bit damaged meanwhile and I have no idea, if it´s anything worth in comparison to invest in a better standard zoom lens or not.
'EX Tele Conv' is NOT 'extra zoom'. It's just a digital crop of the image, same as you could do in post, but costing you the rest of the pixels. It's not a good thing to be doing, especially with a long telephoto. It's the same as the 'Digital Zoom' feature on mobile phones, it just reduces image quality.
hello.... I have been fortunate enough to have been gifted a GH5 which I'm wanting to use for still (fine-art) photography - do you have a recommendation for the best all-round lens for this purpose? I'm currently tossing up between the Panasonic Lumix 14-140mm f3.5-5.6 OIS and Panasonic Lumix 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 WP Zoom - I'm a multi-disciplinary artist but relatively new to photography so would really appreciate some direction for a solid still photo lens. Thanks :)
I've the 12-35, brilliant lens . Regarding prime the 15mm 1.7 again brilliant. The cheap 45-150 I've used to do a book 📷👍 I'll probably get the 100-300 at some stage 😉
You are 100% right. The Leica-Lumix 12-60 is now my "go to lens". It is very sharp and more versitale than the Pansonix 12-35, even though it is slightly slower. That extra reach, means a lot in the field or while carrying just a few lenses. Thanks for bring this lens up in to the conversation. My camera bag has the 8-18, 12-60, 50-100, these are all very sharp and the glass is Leica. This is in no way to disparage the regular Panasonic Lumix lenses. They are all fine as well.
“Is it worth 4 times the price? (Suspense) That’s really up to you.” Oh that’s funny! For a second there I thought *you* were the reviewer with access to and hands on experience of both lenses on the “comparison channel” ...
12-35 2.8 for video is not that perfect. If you zoom in, you have to refocus, and autofocus on G85 or any DFD will breathe, which is nono for video. Second: if you zoom in slowly, there is a small drop in aperture for split second, and that is also annoying. For a proper zoom lens you need a 2.8T aperture, but I don't know any for MFT.
Some expensive primes are made to make ostentatious people believe they have a much better lens compared to what the rest of the people can afford. And at the same time, make people with less money feel smart for their purchase. It is a win win situation for the lens companies.
@@ruylastra7249 I have no fundaments? And how do you even know which “fundament” I do or do not possess? I am assuming you mean basis? The basis is your inane comment. And what are you blabbering about prime lenses and subjectivity? Clarity in optics is very much an objective subject, and yes, in 99% of the cases you very much get what you pay for.
@@ruylastra7249 I mean, what you are doing here is a clear case of rationalization, to somehow make you believe that you can get the same quality lens for cheaper. It is precisely what you accuse “ostentatious people” of doing. The irony! You can get good enough lenses at reasonable prices, and with differing quality at different price points, but let’s not fool ourselves here: truly good optics are never cheap.
I wouldn't go for those lenses. Best all around zoom is definitely the 12-35mm f2.8. Best portrait lens is the Nocticron 42.5mm f1.2, and this is probably the best m4/3 lens. The 25mm f1.7 is cheap and not that good. The 15mm f1.7 is fine but not as great as the Olympus 17mm f1.2. And you don't focus on ultra wide angle lenses (8-18mm or 7-14mm). I wouldn't recommend if you are serious about video and photo to buy lenses darker than f1.8
Be careful when using Panasonic lenses. Some of the lenses are non-AS-enabled, and they will exchange them for 80% of the original sales price. It is not described on the homepage. Be careful when you buy lenses.
Showing the "best" MFT lenses and ignoring the Panasonic 20mm F1.7??? Ignoring Olympus Pro Zooms??? Ignoring the Panasonic Leica 15mm F1.7??? That is not serious man. These are not the best MFT lenses at all!

Loving your collection. Very helpful video. Question though, where did you buy the 14-140 lens (for 350) from, cause I keep researching and it's 500.
I have panaleica 8-18 which is great value for money and good for landscape photography
Great content. Any new lenses up for review?
Hi there, just so you know, you are probably stated the British prices but all the lenses are actually cheaper in the US and especially in Asia. Like 500$ (new) for the 25mm 1.4 for ex. People might get freaked out when they here those prices but the truth is they can be found much cheaper, especially second hand
What is the best camera company without advertizing any camera company? Panasonic, Sony, Fujifilm, Nikon, Canon, ...? Thanks
sony
Confused if need to buy Panasonic 25mm f1.7 or Panasonic 30mm f2.8 Macro, apart from macro capabilities isn't everything almost same?
Wow... great presentation... hatts off sir... subscribed.. goahead. 👍👍👍✌️
Thank you for your review, There are so many other Lumix lenses, that you have not talked about. I undertsand where you are coming from. I appreciate your information. Good job!
great video, helped me out...
any advice on stabilization with the 14mm lense? looking into a gimbal for run n gun shoots.
Which is the best for headshots
Olympus 40-150 2.8 is fantastic
Qué telefoto es compatible con lumix g100?
hi, can you make a video on lenses with OIS?
Hi! I’ve just got a G10 - what lens would you recommend for motion shots?
looked like you had the extender option engaged whilst showing the 35-100 and the 100-300mm , so was not true representation of those? I do use the 1-300mm myself and love it, and am looking to add either the 14-140 or the 35-100
I think you’re right. For me of those two lenses the 14-140 is far more versatile. It’s my go to lens. But if low light is an issue then 35-100 can’t be beat.
Hey
What's best lense for ultra Clear video shoot on G95
wish you would have included olympus and sigma mft lenses, but especially I miss the small panasonic kit zoom lens 12-32 mm F3.5-5.6, as ours is a bit damaged meanwhile and I have no idea, if it´s anything worth in comparison to invest in a better standard zoom lens or not.
I love all those lenses but nothing comes close to my Leica 10-25. Worth every dollar.
Does panasonic still have leica features or something to that effect? Just startwd shopping, cheers
@@svnbit8408 Yes, they have a number of Leica glass lenses. They are amazing.
Best lense to use for filming with gimbal use in and out shots for music videos?
Thanks :)
Great video
You mean the mm measurement is permanently zoomed in? So 25mm lens has a certain zoom which you can't unzoom?
Excellent!! You just gained a subscriber.
I've the 12-35, brilliant lens .
Regarding prime the 15mm 1.7 again brilliant. The cheap 45-150 I've used to do a book 📷👍
I'll probably get the 100-300 at some stage 😉
I know it is not a Lumix lens, but what do you think about the Sigma 12-35 art lens?
I want one any of them 😭 I bought a second hand lumix gf2 but no lens, cant afford it
I wish they would have a lens that is faster than a 2.8 for a zoom. I like to 12 to 35 but I wish it was a little faster for low light..
It's called the P leica 10-25 f 1.7. Very fast, high end optics.
@@harryniedecken5321 $1,882.71 yeah sorry don't want to pay that much. I only buy lens that are around 1000 or less
@@EyeLensWeddingVideography I completely understand. Same.
You did not put the pana leica 12-60mm in your best lens ?
One of the few I don’t have. What are your impressions of it?
You are 100% right. The Leica-Lumix 12-60 is now my "go to lens". It is very sharp and more versitale than the Pansonix 12-35, even though it is slightly slower. That extra reach, means a lot in the field or while carrying just a few lenses. Thanks for bring this lens up in to the conversation. My camera bag has the 8-18, 12-60, 50-100, these are all very sharp and the glass is Leica. This is in no way to disparage the regular Panasonic Lumix lenses. They are all fine as well.
“Is it worth 4 times the price? (Suspense) That’s really up to you.”
Oh that’s funny! For a second there I thought *you* were the reviewer with access to and hands on experience of both lenses on the “comparison channel” ...
This helped me so much
Great info thank you a lot.
What about a lumix g85
Thank you,, Great job!! Much Appreciation!!
Like the Leica 60mm! and the 100 + the 200 over the 300.
Not sure if it's just me......but I can't handle the focus box being in the bottom right hand corner of the screen lol
All lens also can use GF-3?
This was very helpful thanks.
No ultra wide?
so, it doesn't damage the camera or lenses when changing lenses while the camera is on?
absolutely no
are they parfocal?
You only get what you pay for
Aperture is also double so not a lot of DOP.
I prefer voigtlander L/0.95
Don't forget the lumix g 12-60mm
Wonderful job!! Thanks a lot
What do you think about 12-60 lumix, and when would you use it?
is it working on gx 80?
Very informative content - but to be honest I didn't make it to the end of the video because that background music was just doing my head in.
Hi what would you recommend for product photography I want sharpness and crisp images
12-35 is MUST!
Would these lenses be compatible with the BGH1? :)
👍Thanks!
Just please-no sudden movements.🙂
Some expensive primes are made to make ostentatious people believe they have a much better lens compared to what the rest of the people can afford. And at the same time, make people with less money feel smart for their purchase. It is a win win situation for the lens companies.
You clearly have zero clue about lenses.
@@kencur9690 You have no fundaments to say that, yet, you criticise me... What ever you think it makes a prime lens better is subjective.
Yo the 140 mm lens is cool in all but I have a 35 to 300mm lens
If only Olympus made lenses :)
thanks u helped me a lot :) make more videos!
Are you American ? Any reason you are giving the prices in $ ?
I live in the US, originally from England.
no sample pictures.
Need to change title..BEST LUMIX MICRO... don’t hide it at the end
The title is misleading as you are only showing Panasonic lenses.
That’s what the title says, no?
I wouldn't go for those lenses. Best all around zoom is definitely the 12-35mm f2.8. Best portrait lens is the Nocticron 42.5mm f1.2, and this is probably the best m4/3 lens.
The 25mm f1.7 is cheap and not that good. The 15mm f1.7 is fine but not as great as the Olympus 17mm f1.2. And you don't focus on ultra wide angle lenses (8-18mm or 7-14mm).
I wouldn't recommend if you are serious about video and photo to buy lenses darker than f1.8
Olympus Zuiko 20mm pro is better then Panasonic ones and 8-25 F 2.8 pro Zuiko is better then Panasonic one. I lilke Leika 9mm F 1.7
Want to talk with you...
Good content but music behind is absolutely disturbing, ruining this video..
First
Embarassing that the camera you are recording on is focused on the wall and not on you or the items :/
