Wooow.. What type of charcoal are you using? And how you prepare the canvas first?

I use Coates charcoal powder and Marie's willow charcoal. I buy my canvases stretched and pre primed. I sometimes just open the canvas and start drawing. Other times I apply a couple. layers of gesso first to add texture. Thanks!

I've been using Liquitex satin varnish for acrylics on my charcoal on canvas artwork and it works great.
