In this video RubberRoss invited his Vtuber friends to try and figure out which character they need to draw by just looking at a collection of colours. The catch? They're coming from Lord Aethelstan, who is colour blind.
Aethel being so confident about certain colors and it taking a moment for each person to realize what he said "what's that pink mist?" "first off that pink mist is blue"/ "everyone knows Shrek is one color, he's red" was really enjoyable.
I'm pretty sure the Shrek one was actually Aethel trolling. You could be blind and still know Shrek is "green"; It's cultural lore. And all the other colors Aethel mixed up came up naturally while this one sounded like a set up.
@@AxillaryPower2 It's honestly a 50/50 haha, Aethal would 100% do it for the bit, but also red/Green colour blindness is the most common type there is, so the two colours would be the most likely to be swapped in someone's mind~
This is as long as my school paper
@@ninjablade2 I definitely think they have either Deuteranopia or Protanopia, especially since the "red is brown" and "green is brown" both approximately line up with how people with Deuteranopia/Protanopia see the world.
Edit: I have also learned that Protanopia and Deuteranopia both look very similar, which is interesting
@@jmvr as someone with deuteranopia. I can tell you that the colors me and him were seeing are definitely similar
As someone who is also slightly color blind, hearing them refer to the clearly brown color after the first prompt as "dark red" hurt my soul. XD Those colors look EXACTLY like that character's colors to me
Well tbh I can see how it could look like a reddish brown color 🤷♂️
So it’s not that bad
There's no way they thought the clearly yellow color for the second character was green, clearly they must be the true colorblind ones
Edit: I conveyed this terribly but this was supposed to be a joke lol, I know I'm colorblind
@@gabrielhicks8043it looked like neon highlighter yellow
@@gabrielhicks8043i have an honest question. Do you see limes and lemons as different colors or both the same?
There is both dark red and brown
It’s always fascinating trying to see the world through someone else’s eyes.
Aethel was genuinely brave to do this, and a real great sport about the game!
Aethel was brave? I'd argue the other artist guests were brave to agree to this
@@SeanSMST He means like *brave to share his disabilities*, i guess
@@SeanSMST truly brave of the artists to be in the same room as someone who is colorblind. However will we reach their heights of bravery?
Bro I’m colorblind, it ain’t that brave, it’s basically the same as someone not having 20/20 vision it’s just a lot less common
@@jamesscott7215 Funfact: It's actually probably way more common than you think. Something like 1/14 males are colorblind (it's sex-specific due to it being an X-linked gene for Protans and Deutans. Tritans are 1/10,000 regardless of sex).
I'd be interested in the opposite direction. See if a typical vision person can make the colors, then different kinds of colorblind artists draw what they think. That way we see a better representation of what they see
ooh i like this idea a lot!
yess
Yah, it’s really cool to see how others see the world (as much as I dislike saying it, like the color blind Dream video).
Ross could have Jacob from Drawfee back on again if he does that
@@HyphenatedRealityI WAS THINKING OF THAT
Love all the fellow people who are color blind in the comments not getting why the artists are saying the colors are so off 😂
So true
I'm an artist AND I'm colorblind so I'm not sure who to root for here
@@MatNightmarehow do you figure out which colours to use? Genuine question
@@eMallard For digital art, you can use the color picker to check where the color is in the hue spectrum. For instance in Photoshop the hues are ordered in a specific way (Red -> Magenta -> Pink -> Purple -> Blue -> Green -> Yellow -> Red), so when you pick a color you can see exactly where it lands on the hue spectrum and know if it's yellow or green, even if you yourself can't tell.
For physical art, people usually label their colored pencils and most paints already come with labels.
I thought it looked exactly like Steve
I’d also love to see Aethel draw everyone’s models with the colors he sees!
Maybe see how he does with a colouring book of his friends! (OA O
this is a brilliant idea
If you're curious, he ran some vtubers through a colourblind filter on stream yesterday to show us how he sees them. Very eye-opening 😅
@@RaeneTheFaerie ironmouse IS going to make a coloring book 👀!!! (was a subathon goal)
@@KuraiKaNinja I was there!
I’m so happy abt the complete color mismatches and then it’s a nearly flawless color pick of Yugi
“All media”
I first discovered rubberross in the background of monet’s still lifes
This man is a big Yu-Gi-Oh fan
Is it me, or is this challenge really fucking difficult even without the colorblind roadblock? Maybe artists are just better at thinking in these terms, but I couldn't have gotten any of these with the colors being accurate.
Right? Hints were a necessity, and even then I was 100% convinced the prompt for Yugi was supposed to be Jotaro. Even with correct colors they basically match.
Normally it's easy, most well designed character have a really specific color palette that can be kind of guessed (but the fun comes from the artists drawing different stuff too, so it's a cool video idea)
@@nhooj8882 I also thought that was gonna be Jotaro lmao.
I was successful at guessing Ross' incorrect guesses somehow
Maybe you're just colorblind get checked dude
"Red is brown" can help anyone through not only this drawing challenge but also in identifying their bowel movement discharges as well.
Yes, but if you have RedGreen colorblindness then green us also brown depending on the hue.
Still, you do not want your poop to be red or green so red/green colorblindness aside you would go to a doctor if your poop was littered with an indistinguishable red/green muddiness
@@iantaakalla8180 I actually pooped green when I was a really little kid. My parents freaked out and took me to/called the doctor. He said green poop was fine. Poop of any color was fine, except for red or very dark black which both are signs of blood in the stool. (Unless you've eaten a beet or two, that'll dye everything red.)
@@iantaakalla8180But like, if red is brown, how are you supposed to know if it's just poop brown or a bad brown?
Poor aethel having his perception of colours absolutely shredded
It does come with the minor upside of being able to distinguish brightness easier, so it's not all bad.
I was struggling with what to comment. I've decided to drop the "wtf"s and jokes, and honestly just thank Aethel for his bravery and generosity. This made for a sometimes funny, but all together fascinating video. I feel like I've learned something, and I don't want to cheapen that with knee-jerk reaction humor. I'll admit that the Shrek color mention made me do a double take, but I won't make fun. Thanks for a great look at how you see things!
I think he was joking about shrek
@@cheesymation Not sure,
Green and Red are actually surprisingly similar.
Especially since he seems to be Green Weak (aka Yellows, greens and brown are most problematic and lighter colours look more purple or pink than usual.)
@@BramLastnamemakes sense considering he saw blue as pink in the Disney logo
@@sidkit4ever true, but it's kinda difficult to tell.
Since every time either the blue looks like pink or pink sometimes looks like blue.
This brown looks like green or green looks like brown.
Ect. Ect.
There's no real way to know which ones are the telltale signs and which ones were more accidental.
Since his colour blindness affects his perception of how colours work on such a fundamental level.
@BramLastname Even if it might look red to him, i think it's common knowledge that Shrek is a green ogre, like grass is green or the sky is blue
If you're ever confused as to what colours Aethel can and cannot see, Nyan has said she always wears colours he can see. Black.
Thank you Aethel, for being apart of this, and for being a good sport :> and it’s rad to see so many people in the comments talking about their own experiences with being color blind
God Aethel was absolutely adorable. Hope to see more of this advanced difficulty version. But I don't think I'll ever get over the red Shrek...
Color blind Vtuber vs Artists????? HAHAHAHA This is absolutely hilarious !!!!!
I AM LAUGHING SO HARD HEHEHEHEHE
As a fellow artist who was also colorblind, I appreciate Aethel for taking part in this. And I think the rest of you all did a pretty good job too
He has dueteranopia. Every color that contains green or red hues is completely different. I have this too, so to me, Aethel is 100% accurate lol.
Sorry if sounds offensive but do u actually see shrek red?
@chindasasecas2461 no he's green/brown to me. I think Aethel was just joking lol but spectrum of colorblindness varies person to person.
@@dnguyen253 ah ok, thanks
@@dnguyen253I assumed he was joking, but after watching this and his reaction to it, I was second guessing myself on his joke. Good to know.
I'm honestly kindof surprised that nobody drawing didn't look up the basics of CVD to know the general idea of how it works. It's not a complicated concept, or anything.
A lot of these drawings look like they were put through one of those filters that simulates color blindness. Genuinely interesting
As someone who's colourblind this video really is an eye opener
I remember having a classmate who was color blind, and said they didn't get how people liked Mario and Luigi, they looked the same
Until I mentioned, well one is red and one is green
His reaction of "LUIGI IS GREEN??!?!" lives rent free in my head
This made me realize that the Mario & Luigi games can be brutal for colorblind people.
How bout you get a color palette and show him the colors then put their actual name or color and try to find out the color that he sees as red
then the rest
I am slightly colorblind and the DISCUSSIONS i have had about color are wild. Good luck
to better describe this, Aethel isn't seeing colors mixed up, like seeing the blue smoke as pink instead of blue. He's seeing the blue smoke exactly as it's drawn. The difference is when he was young and someone pointed to pink and said "This is pink" he was seeing it without the red coloration, so what he calls pink is to him a light greyish blue color. So when something is actually that greyish blue color, he thinks it's pink, since he can't tell the red that would normally make something pink isn't present.
This is an interesting perspective - I never considered that pink as I learned it is most similar to light red, but pink as Aethel learned it is most similar to light blue.
I think you should do this challenge with colorblind people only. It's so, so, SO interesting to see how characters look with different colorblindness! Please more of this :DD
Edit: OH MY GOD!! PLEASE CONSIDER: You guys draw characters Aethel knows and he has to color them in! That would be so interesting!!
I love y'all's content, these games are always so much fun to watch. Keep up the great work!
When I saw the thumbnail being made on-stream, I initially thought that Ross was coated in grease while Athel held a lit match-like a happy-go-lucky arsonist about to commit one hell of a murder. Good thing I can identify the proper context for it now! XD
As a fellow colorblind member of the castle, this gave me a good representation of how he sees certain colors. Very fun to watch and very relatable.
I love, "remember, brown is red." Aethel: wait there's brown in here??
The Yugi one was kinda embarrassing, that was the one where the colors were the most spot on 😂
Tbf the challenge is hard enough if you don't include colour blind.
Like red blue black white and skin colour, describes mario, ash Ketchum, yugi, captain America, cyclops, etc. It be helpful, to include media and relative amount of each colour
From the description I knew this was going to be good but once he said "This isn't super Mario" and you all were devastated I knew it'd be great.
Edit: I was correct, that was super interesting. Candii's drawing of the Genie at the end had my jaw on floor, wow.
So now we have to make this a series with colorblind artists XD I nominate drawfee Jacob lmao
i was thinking jacob too!
I would be interested to see that, but given his reactions to the test of the gang's art and the pieces he puts together, I think he has a pretty great grasp of color theory at least.
@@iPyromantic true. But if he worked with an unfamiliar palette that he hasn’t memorized that could work
I had no idea he had cvd. Do you know what type? Cause everything he draws looks color-accurate to me (then again, I have tritanomaly, so I'm not the best metric.)
@@Naokarma I believe he has issues with red and green? And they are desaturated a lot. He doesn’t talk about it because he’s memorized the color wheel and I’m sure he asks Julia if he ever needs help. He’d need to be given a randomly generated color palette to do a challenge like this one since he did memorize it pretty well lol
So specifically he is absolutely 100% red-green colorblind with the colors he was giving, since everything was either yellow-brown or a muted blue. super interesting, and I would've been COMPLETELY lost. It's nothing to feel bad for tho, and most importantly I'm glad Aethel seemed like he was having fun with it.
“I like to think I’m not that colourblind” *flashback to when Aethel coloured the American flag brown and green*
Now I'm curious to see Aethel's color palette. Like how he sees the world or how he sees a color palette on a digital art program.
The latest video on the channel "Froyo Dealer", is a long clip of Aethel running images through a deuteranopia simulator and talking about his vision a bit more.
Tbh I think this is so cool! Aethel's colour blindness mixed with a guessing game sounds really interesting and I'm glad He enjoyed doing it
i started laughing when i heard him say "everyone knows shrek's one color is red" I wasn't expecting that lol
this is really entertaining, cause it's just fascinating to see the difference between the chosen, perceived colors vs the ones I see.
This is so funny, big thank you to Aethel for being the resident colorblind person ❤
Please do this again!
im obsessed with this challenge! im not colorblind but as a fellow artist im super curious at how others view the world. the wario especially was so insightful
This was an extremely funny stream to watch, I love Aethel and the fact he's colorblind makes it even better!
Ok, we ABSOLUTELY need a part 2 of this! This was hilarious and cool. Maybe even with more artists?
This was like decoding a cipher. Aethel's dark red is brown, his lime green is yellow, his pink is light blue... wild. So cool how respectful everyone was, too.
This is so cool! I would love to see this again with Aethel also doing a quick sketch to see the altered colors on the characters!
Big thanks to Aethel for doing this. I think it's actually really interesting and informative to see what things look like to someone with colorblindness. It helps to understand some struggles they might have, as well as imagine how unique their view of the world is.
This was a really fun and interesting video/stream. Seeing Aethel feeling comfortable enough to share his colorblindness like this; and then seeing everyone else be so interested, was genuinely wholesome. It shows how much friendship and trust is shared among all of them.
And it showed a glimpse into what it means to be colorblind, since I'm not. Never thought he would see Wario's shoes as a sort of brownish color.
Also there were some damn good drawings in this. Candii's Genie was fantastic
Mad respect to Aethel for doing this, it was very very interesting! Would love to see more with this (also that Genie was brilliant!)
Maaan I need a whole series about this, I want to see how you all get progressly better at this
I'm colourblind too, so when you guys went "Wait, what do you mean that Shrek is all red?!" I felt second-hand embarassment, because that is exactly what I thought back when Shrek first came out. 😅😅😅
Need more like this. It's amazing how different colors are to people who are color-blind. Would love to see more like this video.
This was actually really fun and interesting to see. Man it's crazy how we take colors for granted lol
A small idea for next round if y'all decide to do this again: Have Aethal make the colour palette in accordance with which colour is more abundant than others (As in, if there's more red than blue, the red would be a bigger circle.) I don't know if that'll make it too easy when guessing what character to draw, though. Lol
I've never felt more like a genius than guessing Yugi's color pallet. Admittedly it took me 10 minutes, it was the only one besides the last that I got right, and it isn't the hardest, but man was it fulfilling. I hope you guys do this again!
The color blindness makes Aethel low key adorable 😭
I absolutely love and interested in seeing more of colorblind vids. This was very interesting and enlightening!
I love how the first round had everyone all treating the colors as normal and almost all guessing the same character, and then round 2 was complete chaos.
I think the reverse of this would be really fun. Get Aethel a pair of those "color blindness glasses" that reverse the effects of it, so he can see the colors as normal (I know their can be expensive), and have him do a round of drawing as normal. That'd be a fun and wacky episode. Content, baby! Content!
I’ve heard those don’t really work too well looking at a computer screen.
this is so fascinating and what a fun idea!! thank you aethel for your perspective! a delightful watch
Y'all need to buy him those colorblind glasses as compensation. Nevertheless, props to Aethel for being a good sport. This was very entertaining.
He said those don't work for him.
This contentcreator lacks a pickaxe, morkite, some beer and most emportaintly ROCK AND STONE
I understand Aethel, i'm colorblind too but good job to him and all the group, nice video !
This was SO fun! Would very much enjoy seeing another colourblind challenge!
"ohh red is brown..." you can see the realisation dawn on his face when he says "green.. is brown?..." lol
Not me literally seeing the exact same colors as Athel and being confused at everyone for not seeing the same ;-; My colorblind brother I'm here for you
love the video, i think a cool idea would be to redraw the character but in the off-colors if you ever decide to do this again!
This was a really great idea for a video! really opens your eyes on what people who are colour blind sees.
Interesting video idea aside, the edits of everyone's moving models on the screen is really good!
It's not just a png popping in like it would be in most videos. That's really cool but looks like so much work, so props to the editor fr!
Kinda beautiful since we all slowly got the understand how Aethel sees the world
Brown is red, red is brown, and both are green. Colorblindness is a struggle...
I’m gonna be honest, this is so interesting to see. I don’t have anyone in my circle of friend that is colourblind, so having artists trying to draw characters like that from the perceived colours of a colourblind person is so interesting. Absolutely no shade on the man for accepting that idea either, being willing to put your disabilities like that in the forefront for entertainment is a bold move.
Really liked that video.
After learning Aethel was colorblind, I was interested in what level of it he was. It was so sweet to have him do this with all you guys.
genuinely one of the best youve put out. I'd watch more just like this.
This video actually gives some tremendous insight into how being colorblind works.
Red green color difficulty. Very common.
I find it easier to determine the color they think it is by the intensity of light reflected by that color.
So bright greens, oranges, and yellows can all be the same. Reds and greens are indistinguishable. Red IS brown, but tan is not brown. Tans, light grey/blue, and pink are all intermixed: real hit and miss if they can tell the color correct. Blues and purples are the same color to a point, then they are clearly different colors.
I thought I was color blind. I got nothing on this man.
Being a colorblind person myself, this was amazing to watch! First it was everyone's struggle trying to see the world that Aethel was seeing, then it was comparing the MANY similarities but some differences between my colorblindness and his! Loved the video!
I’m always curious about how people with various kinds of color blindness see the world. Sometimes the colors will look completely different from each other, and sometimes they’re almost the same, and it always fascinates me!
I’ve even learned that two people that aren’t considered colorblind will disagree with what color they’re seeing (Example: one time, my mom and I couldn’t agree on wether a cardigan we were looking at was light green or light blue). To every person that can see color, colorblind or not, every single person perceives colors differently, which I think is really cool!
man, I can't imagine what color blindness feels like, It's like they live in a different world
It honestly isn't any different from regular life, and if I am to be brutally honest, you just kind of learn to live with it by recognizing patterns instead of colors to associate things with. If anyone else has noticed, stuff like driving... You may see green, yellow and red, but colorblind people see a go light on the right and a stop light on the left or a go light on the bottom and the stop light on top.
This is why he was drawing you in the VTUBER COMBINIG video brown
I love it when aethel has the dog.
Edit: damn aethel is such a good sport
Aethel should get a version of his model in the colors he sees it as!
Being colorblind myself, it is WAY funnier watching it! Being colorblind has it's hardships, but overall I feel like if it isn't a severe case, like you only see grays, it can be kinda fun and not that terrible. Of course, maybe I'm just trying to SEE the best of it 🤣. I'll see myself out.
I see what you're doing there.
I'm impressed that any of the artists can come up with a single character with all of these color palettes. They look so different to me
7:23 perfect colors for jotaro
This was soo fun and fascinating. Thanks guys, and I wish for an hr I could see through Aethels eyes. So interesting
Now I want an impossible mode where someone is totally colorblind and just sends y'all black, white, and shades of gray.😂
as a colorblind person i have to ask my siblings all the time when drawing if brown is red or red is brown or yellow is lime or if blue is purple
Any video with Buff in it is gonna be amazing
twitch says hi youtube, but we need to start saying hi back,
HI TWITCH
I haven't seen anyone else say it, but I loved Laedee's little wholesome chime in's. Like, she made the entire thing feel like just a silly little thing between friends.
LOVE the colorblind challenge! This would work just as well for a normal sighted person, so I'd love to see more. Also for the drawing ones, it'd be funny for the guest to have aphantasia as the challenge. (I know Ross has it too, but he gets to use references.)
normal made me think if theres another word for it. my mind went to optotypical which I dont think is a word.
I've only seen him once and the moment you showed who was picking the colors I immediately felt second hand "UUGGHHHH" for you guys. I can't wait to see this. He seems like a good guy so this should be fun!
It’s crazy to see how Aethel sees each color differently. It’s interesting
watching this while having a different colorblindness is making this extremely confusing lol
I really hope we get more of this, this was adorable
This whole is the same exact vibes as Donkey's "Blue flowers Red Thorns" scene from the first(?) Shrek movie
This is so interesting! I would love to watch stuff like this more!
Genuinly dope series hopefully yall make more.
Man, first time i actually watched the stream live, and it was absolutely hilarious.
colorblind people can bring out the craziest color combinations and i love it
I'd love to see this done;
You are given a random character's name and only their name and you have to draw them from their name and that alone. Whoever is closest or gets it spot on gets a point.
Now, it wouldn't be like Luffy, Goku, etc. because everyone can practically draw them.
If I was an artist, I'd so be playing this game with my own friends!! This just seems like a lot of fun!! Loved all the goofy art that came out of this! ^^
