- I finally took delivery of my 2022 Subaru BRZ limited in Ice Silver! Took several months to get here but I can't be any happier! I just need to learn how to drive a 6-speed manual first...

The best way to learn is by buying it and driving it daily. with hill assist and a backup camera, it is easier to learn than ever. Props to you for taking a dive and buying the car and not knowing how to drive a manual daily. I wish more people were like you.
I just did this, my GR86 comes in Friday. I practiced once and stopping, changing between gears seemed easy. The initial bite going from 1st is the only thing I had a problem with. I practiced for like an hour on an old ass Scion XB with 300k miles. I'm not good at driving stick, but I feel confident enough I can at least get this car home with maybe stalling a few times or none. Idk, but my friends think I'm nuts that I bought a manual and never driven one before like a few days ago.

use more clutch if you think your going to stall (especially on uphills) and add gas as needed. burning a little clutch is okay in tight or hard places to drive. better than crashing.
sometimes you dont need gas at all, you just need momentum. gassing is one way to gain momentum or rolling down a hill. that is why 1st/reverse gear is the hardest.
Don't think is a best idea.. he will knock the engine and burn the clutch. Better to go and learn in a shitbox. Then he will learn all about Hill Start and all the thing he need to learn, maybe he could even learn toe in.
@@zinny999 i learned and drove a 350z with hks supercharger. i got the basic down and i would cruise around at night to practice so i wouldn't get nervous in the morning. i bought it built and that clutch was soooo nice, quick, and precise.
i made sure everywhere i went didn't had a hill. damn i miss that car.
I’m about to take the dive this Saturday. Never driven manual as a daily, only tried it in an empty parking lot 7 years ago and it was fun! Buying a used FK8. Wish me luck 😂
to find the bite point go somewhere level, put it in 1st, let the clutch out really slowly without giving it gas, when the car starts to move that's where the bite point is.

lol last week I bought brand new 2022 impreza manual and didn't know how to drive it. stalled a lot on the first day but now I can drive anywhere. still a bit shaky on the take off but getting better every day.

Dude same, i feel like just going for manual even tho i dont know how to drive manual just to learn it.
It's very intimidating at first, but as long as you have someone there to teach you and you get some time in the parking lot and on a few shallow hills, you'll be good to go in 1-2 weeks. That was me two weeks ago lol.
I did the same thing, bought my first car w/o knowing how to drive stick. It gives you more motivation to learn stick l, it only took me a week to fully drive a whole day w/o Stalling on me. This new BRZ is my dream car as well, so glad for you man🤩

Congrats man!!! So happy for you, you’re gonna love the car and once you practice a little you’ll have it down in no time. The new brz is my first manual as well so my dad also had to drive it home but after about a month of ownership it’s starting to get way easier!!!
Good for you man. I bought me a manual WRX in January. Didn’t even know how to drive it. I’m 29 and had my dad drive the car home for me. Learned pretty quickly.
It’s definitely never too late to learn.

Took delivery of my Gr86 in march of 2023. I remember this video being one of first I saw of the car and it inspired me to go after it. I didn’t know how to drive stick either but I learned, just like you. Life’s crazy good sometimes, thank you for the inspiration

That's great bro, Can't be afraid to learn. I bought my first manual Honda Accord so I could learn standard. It was challenging at first, but after you get the hang of it, you good.

Nice I just learned stick and all I can say it’s pretty easy the hardest thing is starting it and finding where you can start hit the gas. I can’t wait to see what you do with it. Another tip when you are in a light put it on Neutral cuz that help u rest. Anyways good luck man!
Also should learn how to do it on hills cuz that’s the real learning experience.
And don't forget the e brake
To be honest, putting on neutral just to rest when you’re on 3rd or 4th gear is a bad habit and bad for the transmission. I’d Let the gears engage. Happy Driving

Actually so jealous lol, ordered my GR86 in January and want it here so bad 😭. For your first time learning stick you did so well! Expect to stall a couple times but these new cars make it really easy to learn. I learned in an ‘05 civic and that shit was rough lol

Nice car man! Congrats and enjoy! Manuel isn’t so hard. Once you get the hang of 1st gear the rest comes easy. I just got a new car as well, 2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sport. I love pressing that button to turn her on lol 😂

Man, i wanted to learn how to drive stick and got a mazda miata out here in tysons Northern Virginia! I had no idea how to drive it even off the lot and trust me when i tell you, you will be getting around just fine in a couple of weeks! hope you enjoy that new BRZ man, it looks great.

Haha I was somewhat in the same boat as you. I bought my GR86 back in January and drove it home after not driven stick in two years so I was a little rough but quickly got used to it. Scariest part for me was rev matching haha. The car definitely catches some eyes in the parking lot especially when parked next to a friends type r. Enjoy the car, I’m sure you’ll love it!

The exhaust you need is a full tomei expreme ti and change the headers to a UEL headers to get that nice subie rumble. Congrats on the car man!

I bought a brand new sti two years ago and I didn't know how to drive stick either. it was my dream car and the ej motor was going away so i had to have it. drove 50 miles home from the dealer and stalled like 5 times. it sucks initially but you'll get it. get used to hill starts as soon as you can and the gates of the shifter up and down shifting. it will all be muscle memory in no time
The easiest and safest way to learn a clutch biting point is just to move off with clutch only, engaging and disengaging it in a parking lot or empty road.
You could also just have the handbrake up and lift off the clutch slowly to where you can feel and hear the car move and rumble and the clutch in again.
For getting the confidence, you could try uphill starts and practicing engine brake techniques so that you can efficiently daily a manual!
Hope these few tips help you and get to enjoying that sweet BRZ Limited quicker and smoother!

Good first car to drive manual on. Easy clutch (release point is pretty high) and a solid feeling shifter.

You can do it I bought a 2020 sti limited with never driving stick before and I learned and I have cerebral palsy. You can do it it just takes time and to know where biting point is once you figure that out and how much gas it becomes second nature

1:23 December was when the first orders started being sent over here. I ordered mine in November and it arrived late January (didn’t pick up till mid February). I killed the car so many times on the first drive home and the dealer area had a lot of hills. Anyways, congrats on the car!

that's alright fam, I bought my '21 Type R in Nov of 2020 not knowing how to drive stick. Good thing my dad knows though, so he drove it home, and taught me how to drive like a man ASAP.
I bought my FR-S when I didn’t know how to drive either. Test drive was nothing but lurching and over reving. But eventually you get better
Congrats man! Have fun learning! Always leave it in gear when you park (not sure if you do or not). I see a lot of manual drivers leave it in neutral which would allow it to roll if the ebrake ever fails.
If parking to flat space, just leave it in gear. Dont have to put ebrake on for no reason and put wear on it. If theres any hill then put ebrake.
I don’t know I always leave it in gear and use the ebrake. Redundancy is great and even a very slight slope will allow the car to roll.
@@LintulaV all things that have to do with the e brake are pretty easy to do and cheap Id rather deal with that then me stalling my car whenever i get it in cuz i instantly take my foot off the clutch as habit cuz i park on a flat surface

This is my first manual trans vehicle too. After a week I think I got all my upshifts/downshifting down besides Rev match. And hills... fuck hills. I gotta learn those hill starts.

Took me 30 mins to learn stick and I started daily driving mine blew the clutch in the first month and after that I was solid lmao
i bought a 2019 wrx that year and i didnt even know how to drive it lmao, but trust it’s all hard work just don’t be afraid to get honked on the road when you stall lmao

Nice car, driving stick is just about learning the mechanics of clutch bite, rev match and reflex. Just keep practicing it until you can drive the car without thinking. Make sure to not banga the car, It's hard to get one of those in the current market.

My dad drove home my 2020 BRZ. He taught me how to drive stick. Best tips practice driving in parking lots or if you can drive at night there's less cars around so no big deal if you stall and no one is around.

@@WayneBanga Good to hear. How is the clutch in the new gen? Last gen they stuck this god awful spring to make the clutch lighter but it also made it more difficult for new manual drivers to get the sense of when the clutch engaged.

you don't need to put it in neutral to brake, just use the clutch before you stop, but apart from this you did ok for a newb. My first time the car was kangaroo hopping all over the place!
I bought my 2022 brz limited as my first stick car
I have a s2k, can confirm, stick shift is fun af, but i live in a heavily congested city so auto is my daily. advice i'd like to give, learn to downshift and don't get in the habit of shifting it into neutral when you approach the light.
I also have an s2k hahaha, definetly agree on the downshift rather than neutral, this will help you increase you connection to the car as well as how much fun it is to go out for a drive.
I've been practicing downshifting all week actually! Still rough but ill get it soon I know it!

Driving stick is like riding a bicycle for the first time once your in it it, it becomes muscle memory. btw I also bought my brz back in 2017 without knowing how to drive stick.

Yeah! My dad grew up driving stick in the Philippines but moving to America he wanted the comfort of auto. I drove his car when I came of driving age and I’ve always wanted to drive manual since!
I was born and raised in the PI just like your Father did until I was 17 when we moved in States. First car I purchased was a 2006 Acura RSX with a stick shift.
