  • Trent Mitchell first visited Lord Howe Island two decades ago on a whim, chasing waves. He not only found good surf, but also an island paradise with echoes of other South Pacific island paradises.
Today, Trent is one of the world’s most respected ocean photographers and has made a life capturing the magic of waves.
He recently returned to Lord Howe with Lauren L. Hill, Dave Rastovich and their family, to explore the island and its magic corners. The resultant film, Kin stands as a testament to decades of work formally protecting Lord Howe’s unique marine ecosystems and the myriad of sea life that calls them home.
In this piece, Trent picks his favourite images from the trip, and recounts the stories behind them.
