    I think it is possible for something to be both funny and reprehensible.

      @harderthantherock 4 года назад +4

      I wouldn’t go so far as to say what Marler did was “reprehensible”. But I also wouldn’t describe it as particularly funny. Maybe if he’d done it knowing that he was going to get lamped by AWJ would have been funnier, but knowing that in all likelihood AWJ is far too experienced a pro to react, or if if he does react he’s getting sent off, it’s a pretty low thing to do. I thought it was mildly amusing, but seeing how annoyed AWJ was at the presser gave me a different view on it.

    So NO comments about Tuilagi head injury and what caused it or Liam Williams entering from the side of the ruck and picking up and tipping Tom Curry head first into the ground (in front of the Referee's assistant).
    No. The big story is someone touching someone inappropriately and an English player, in full flight, taking out a falling player (who jumped up, and rejoined the field of play).
    A bit too many pearls being clutched in fake horror.

      Just so you know... flying into a tackle leading with the shoulder is illegal on any part of the body and will result in at least a yellow card .. but once there's contact with the head regardless of North going lower there are no mitigating circumstances and results in a straight red .. the bottom dollar here is that there's players out there who have been guilty of dangerous tackles leading with the shoulder at club and international level many times .. tuilagi is one of those players .. 114 kilos at full tilt then diving flying through the air leading with the shoulder arm at his side like a torpedo and if connected cleanly with norths head would have not just knocked him out but could have seriously damaged him ending norths career or even worse .. there's a reason the irb are attempting to rid the game of such stupid so called tackles.... it's called player safety ..

      @emmastephenson9763 4 года назад

      @@isitwasit8756 I am of the opinion that player safety is the top priority. No problem with the rules. My issue is that the referee spent a very long time looking at the 'tackle' before he made a decision. If it was so obvious that the intention was to injure the player or end his career it should be a straight red. If it takes several reviews (with the crowd shouting and booing louder with every review) it will be open to debate.
      P. S. I have a Son who is still playing despite the fact he broke his back. Player safety is paramount. Cheers!

      @@emmastephenson9763 like I said earlier tuilagi is known for his head high shoulder charge tackling .. he does it at club and international level and the day these cowards finally get the message the better for player safety.. the ref was delaying because of reviewing contact to the head .. at the least tuilagi was going to get a yellow because of flying into a tackle leading with the shoulder.. the red was because there fortunately was on slight contact to norths head .. if you just take your English googles off for a moment and imagine the horrendous damage to north if tuilagi shoulder had made full contact with norths head .. I dread to think the damage that would have caused .. I also have 2 son's who play rugby and have played the game myself for many years. And I long for the day when the penny drops that these dangerous cheap shot tackles are no longer tolerated and eradicated from the game.. this isn't the first time tuilagi has been sent off or yellow carded for dangerous tackles he's got a long history of this and one day some player will end up brain damaged because of his cowardly head high tackling technique..

If Tom Curry had hit the ground at the wrong angle then he could be in wheel chair for the rest of his life. Where is the outrage from everyone about that? Again, I ask - what about the initial head injury to Tuilagi? If the authority's are really serious about preventing damage caused to players they need to be a bit more on the ball with everyone.

They weren't respectful when they jeered the English team as they arrived at the stadium. They weren't respectful when they tried to rough Ford up in the tunnel two years ago. I give Eddie a pass because he's kind of right that was the worst ref showing I've ever seen and mostly England got screwed over by it. They missed scrum-half Williams forward pass early, missed the genital grab, they missed Tipuric spiking the ball into Currys stomach, a Liam Williams elbow to the face of Curry. They should have red carded Parkes based off of the Tuilagi red. Wales benefited from a not straight lineout that immediately led to 14 minutes of pressure to the end the game that gave them 14 points. Now Tuilagi is getting cited as well as Lawes and Marler while Parkes gets off free.

    World rugby and national competitions need to get a grip on referee consistency standards. They have forgot where the off side line is and they all have an inconsistency approach to the clear out, breakdown, knock on and maul. It took Wayne Barnes, has assistant referee, to get involved to correctly sort the tip tackle in the Scotland game, otherwise it would have just been a penalty. Bring consistency will improve the standards of the players has they will always push the legal envelope.

      Kane Bennett well it’s against rugby laws so regardless of how mad the world is, Marler knew the rules. The sanctions start at 12 weeks, as per this specific law.

    • @april-tui3524
      @april-tui3524 4 года назад

      Dan Cater I’m not sure why you’re arguing, it’s all over the damn news he’s been cited under 9.27 I think it is and that the entry point sanction is 12 week ban. It doesn’t actually matter wtf you think and it doesn’t actually say he *has* to grab twist or squeeze! While they specifically state those things, it actually says: A player must not do anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship including but not limited to grabbing, twisting or squeezing the genitals”.
      If action is taken and Marler is found guilty the offence has a low end punishment of 12 weeks to a maximum penalty of 208 weeks.
      Argue all you like mate, facts don’t care about your feelings 😬 he’s been cited for it!

    I genuinely like Marler. He's a funny lad, and makes a good joke. This one however was clearly badly misjudged. If he'd gone a split second wee rummage it would have been bad but could have been passed off with a "don't do that again, I know it used to be funny but we've now realised the serious impact on people of this sort of stuff". The fact that he kept at it for much longer than a second or 2 was what tipped it squarely into Not Play On for me.

How sad that men have been emasculated to the point where a comical tickle of a todger on a rugby field is being defined as assault by young men off it. Are young men not tactile with eachother anymore then? Has banter and silliness been taken from you along with everything else? Are you ashamed of such silly, harmless behaviour that has been a pillar of male bonding forever? Well done, you’re all women now - mission accomplished.

    The way I see it is that, although it was all for a laugh and innocent in his intentions, it was absolutely correct for him to have received a ban. The letter of the law states that any grabbing or touching of genitals is a minimum of a 12 week ban, so in fact he was extremely lucky to not have got an extra two weeks... I love Marler and think he is absolutely hilarious but in this instance it was certainly a wrongful act. It doesn’t matter if it was for a laugh or just a joke, what it comes down to is that he touched someone’s genitals without consent, on the world stage, in clear view of thousands of spectators. If we are being real here, if world rugby had let him off it would have set a dangerous precedent and sent a message to all the kids watching that sexual assault is ok if it’s just for a laugh.

  • @Thirteen31Music
    @Thirteen31Music 4 года назад +1

    In my mind theres no question it was wrong and he should be given a ban. I don’t think there was malice he clearly did it to try and be funny or get AWJ to react and get a card. Regardless its against the rules there is no reason to do it and its not OK to do that even if it is a joke.
    If a bloke walked up a woman on the street or in the work place and gave her muff a playful grab joking or not then he’d be arrested or fired/disciplined - rightly so. At the end of the day banter or not its not acceptable. Prime example of Lad culture i.e being a Twat.

    Things like this used to be acceptable, they no longer are.
    Like many I had a chuckle, but as the game gets more commercial lad culture like this has to be left in the past, or atleast to the trainimg field.
    But pretending the rules in place are meant for this is disingenuous. They are for grabbing, twisting and squeezing. That is the spirit they were written in, and that matters. Joe gave him a little tickle. The laws were for safeguarding balls, not to stop shithousery with no intent to injure.
    Society has moved on hence why people are outraged in the #metoo generation. New laws are needed in my opinion for instances like this. They dont warrant the length of ban intended for more serious offenses to actually injure the crown jewels,.but sayimg that he should definitely face some sort of punishment as this sends out the wrong message to kids.

    Marler deserves to be punished, it was a wind up thing to do. In the old days AWJ would have just knocked him out, but as that’s not an option now in the modern game (see France Vs Scotland) he should (and will) get a hefty ban. Too much gamesmanship in this England side - from Eddie, ball grabbing, shouting and roaring after scrum penalties, ironically back slapping the opposition. Just play rugby boys and leave all the other nonsense for soccer.
