I'm 60 hours into my new playtrough and i feel like CDPR's writing finally gets time to shine. I just love the sidequests they do. The kidnapping quest with River, "Dream on" with the Peralez's, Chippin' in with Johnnny and the crucifixion with the prisoner turned religious. So many memorable quests! It makes me sad for the devteam, that so many people gave the game a pass because of all the issues. I'm absolutely loving the game atm. It may not be at the level of Witcher 3, but it is damn close.

@@j0nnyism Objectively I think that's about right. Personally though, The Witcher series is special to me. Played the first, loved it. After that I played The Witcher 2, it became my favorite game of all time and it stayed that way for years until the Witcher 3 came out. I haven't been as immersed into a game as that one ever since.
So yeah, I think the sidequests in Cyberpunk are about on par with The Witcher 3. But I just love the characters in W3 so much more. The main quest is the real draw for me.
Cyberpunk has the most immersive open world though, gotta give props there.

This game has great content but the way it is set up and presented is terrible. I have only been able to enjoy the game because I’ve come back two years later, have completely forgotten the story, and am solely sticking to gig work as a result. Not only that but I’ve had to deliberately skip looting anything because you get more eddies in a random chest than for completing the gig itself.
The game sets you up for something it’s not designed around. You come for Night City but will have to actively fight against the V show to have it.

I liked it to begin with, as far as story goes. there were so many bugs and gameplay issues that made it lackluster at launch though. they put some shine on those things I didn't like before, they did it well, now this game is something truly polished as far as gaming experiences go. I hate that it takes a failed launch and the due criticism to fix it, but maybe that's just a sign of the times in this sphere of entertainment. I just hope that stories like this and stories like what's happened with other games like No Mans Sky reestablish the fundamental values which made this industry such a market force before the greed of potential profits destroyed its soul.

The writing of CDPR is, imo, what make them so much better than say, Bethesda. No matter what the issue is in their games they always tell compelling stories that I actually want to see to the end.

Witcher 3 is so overrated. Awful easy spammy gameplay even o Death March, awful loot system, awful AI, awful alchemy, awful equipment progression, Ubisoft world, etc.. People like you who think Witcher 3 is an awesome RPG are the reason RPG genre went to the toilet, now everybody creates spammy "action RPG's". But yeah thank God for Larian and Owlcat but then again their games are probably way to hard for your brain.

Just a side note now in 2.1, after you do certain quests, depending on your choices, gangs will actually respond to your actions accordingly. For example, after dealing with Maelstrom in act 1, if you go in and kill everybody they will begin a vendetta against you, and depending on where you’re driving, Maelstrom gang members will chase after you in cars. Also now metro stations are available throughout the city!

    • @4i4kov
      @4i4kov Год назад

I'm in two minds about re-reviews of games that have gotten updated. On one hand, you want your review to be accurate for new players. On the other, you want developers to sell functioning, complete products at launch. When you update your review, you are making that launch matter less.
There is also a thing to be said about letting developers change the product you've paid for on a whim. Remember when patches were an optional thing you had to manually install? Most people probably didn't even bother with that. Now if a developer messes up with an update, it takes a lot more work for you to roll it back. You have to mod the game or download an earlier version of it from some sketchy third party website. And if you do, it's probably not going to be feature-complete.

Tbh I don't know of any game that has ever achieved that. The closest is maybe Fallout new vegas but they only felt random because there were so many of them-they were all hand crafted events that everyone will see in a playthrough.

One of improvements I've liked the most are the improvements to stability and performance. I've had big issues in that department before, but now gameplay is really smooth, especially with frame generation on. I also like the changes to economy and loot. It used to be that there is an abundance of it but most of it had next to no value when selling them, making inventory management more tedious than it needs to be and making most loot feel unrewarding. I'd pretty quickly end up with tons of guns and would often have to disassemble many of them to make room for stuff that is worth something. But now guns are as valuable as they should be and not every enemy drops them. Oh, and by far the best change to combat balance is the fact that healing items now have a cooldown. Before you could just coast through any fight by constantly huffing healing items. The only criticism I have about healing now is that CDPR should have went further by allowing only a single use until the cooldown is over instead of two uses.

I love Night City and the game-world. After playing Starfield it was almost jarring to drop back into an environment that actually feels like a real city with all the nooks and crannies and stairwells and alleys. I always enjoy myself when I play this game and have done three playthroughs for the various patches, with the fourth on the way right now.
But yeah, it's a roleplay-light experience. Kind of the same approach that Mass Effect has. You get to customize the appearance of the character, get to determine the gender and background. But you don't really get to make roleplay choices. You will always be that smarmy, smartass merc. You can't roleplay as someone stoic or completely benevolent or someone unhinged with anger issues 'cause the voiced protagonist will always reply in the one singular way that you are meant to be in the game. It's definitely a flaw, but not one that puts me off this game. I still love it and find my time in that cyberpunk world incredibly enjoyable.

It's still way more fun than Starfield and blows it away graphically. Especially with the ray tracing that is absolutely awesome in Cyberpunk and breathes life into the world if you have a PC to handle it. I just started both games this last week after 2.0 and I can tell you one thing, I am already done with Starfield and haven't played it since I started Cyberpunk. It is a way better game after all the updates than I think Starfield will ever be. I kind of think Starfield is a tedious, walking and load screen simulator bereft of creative spark and imagination.

I disagree.. such a limited view on what makes a game true RPG.. people don't have a problem calling the Final Fantasy games RPG when they are way, way more limited in role-playing than CP77.. isn't Vampire Bloodlines a RPG because you are a vampire through the whole game? Just because a RPG has a character that is more established and has a history or a role in the game-world (like Geralt in the Witcher games or V in CP77) that automatically means they aren't RPG? CP77 has pretty much everything that makes game a RPG

It performs fine on a mid-range gaming PC. I'm running it on an i7-9770 with a 2060, 16GB of RAM and a SATA SSD) and it runs perfectly fine. The only bugs I've seen have been objects interacting with doors and that hasn't been game breaking.
I agree with your summary pretty well. It's now the game it should have been on launch and it's a great Action RPG-Lite (or Action Adventure) game. The main disappointment a lot of people have is the over-hyping under-delivering nature of it. And it's great to hear someone else see this as a study from a business perspective of marketing damaging the final product. I'd say there could be a very good video made about the contrasting business-side effects on the final product and its reception between Cyberpunk2077 and Baldur's Gate 3.

I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head really when you talk about how it's really not an RPG at all in terms character choices mattering and the narrative.
Good to see I'm not the only one that thought the whole Brain Dance thing was poorly implemented.
I was disappointed how gangs weren't really fleshed out at all and they're basically just fodder for you to fight. You can spend hours in Night City but never really known much about any of them despite how much of a big part they play in the general world of Night City. Maybe it's because some of them were created for the game, I think, so don't have the deep lore that they would have if they were from the RPG itself? They could have implemented a reputation system where gangs might attack you or even help out if you're fighting on their territory, They could have had gang specific side missions and gear unlocked via reputation, seems like a lot of potential was just overlooked.
As an action game it's really good, the soundtrack is excellent and the general aesthetics are really good but there's no overlooking the marketing hype train CDPR created for a game that they basically didn't make.

I know you said you're not worried about spoiling a 3 year old game, but there are a lot of old games I haven't played and dont want to be spoiled because I intend to play in the future. It doesn't matter how old a game or a piece of media is, a review should refrain from spoilers. And if you do spoil, there should be warnings before each one. You mentioned one could use the chapters in your video to avoid spoilers, well then it should be clearly divided for a chapter to skip a spoiler, like a chapter called "story spoilers" or something. Because the chapter "Story and thoughts" also includes your opinion and analysis, which is not spoiling stuff and is relevant for a review. Other than that, I know it's a lot of work to produce a video like this, keep it going!

I just want to point out how justified the netrunning quickhack build nerf was. It was in my opinion by far the most broken build.
If you had the perk with quickhacks dealing 100% more damage to unaware targets everything could be one-shot by Short Circuit, even groups of enemies if you had the spread perk. Short Circuit was on a 2 seconds cooldown if you went into the perk tree further. Bosses were the only actual combat encounters.
Now normally you might say 'but I can kill everything very quickly with blades and guns also', true, but you had a risk factor. Stay stealthed with quickhacks and nothing ever challenges you. The game becomes more like a point and click and I don't think the devs had that in mind when they made quickhacks.

At some point during the Witcher 2/3 times CDPR seriously began to annoy me with their over the top way to create hype and cringy "gAmEr" style PR, so for Cyberpunk I ignored pretty much all of it, didn't care much for the backlash either and just started around Patch 1.2 when it all had cooled down a bit, basically expecting nothing but what the box art and basic Cyberpunk knowledge told me. Well, and a Sphere Hunter review tbh. And I absolutely loved the game, especially the storyline and it's presentation. Don't care if it had less choices than advertised, didn't care if it wasn't the GTA-Killer it was hyped up as, what CDPR clearly has is some of the best writers in the industry who easily kept me at the edge of my seat, that and the phantastic presentation/acting was enough for me. There were certainly things I wished had been done better, mostly more exploration and side content for Night City, some more late game/post-romance stuff for companions, but overall CP2077 always was just great game for me, already at 1.2. I know a lot of people who still haven't played it because they hold such a grudge against CDPR for being lied to, which just taught me a valuable lesson about PR hype again - they'll all miss out on a really good game because they were so hyped up for an unachievable dream, or they play it and only count the things CDPR didn't deliver.

I’m at odds with the “choice and consequence” thing. They definitely oversold it, which is wrong. However… I’ve never played a story driven RPG with this cathartic of a combat system. If this was marketed, in its current state, as a futuristic open world “Farcry-esque” action game, it would be praised, and the choices cyberpunk gives you relative to that style of game would be a positive, not a negative. I’ve played CP for over 200+ hrs, not because of different story outcomes, but because the combat is so damn fun. And the story is amazing, not becuase of how different it could be, but because of the quality of itself. Story wise, it’s like giving a TV show a more recent binge. I know what’s gonna happen, and I know it’s gonna be dope.

So one thing I'll always address when people talk about choice in gaming is that there are two types of stories: plot driven and character driven.
I think with most reviewers, including here, they view "choices" as only meaningful if they result in different plot based outcomes, rather than character based outcomes.
The V (and Johnny) you play can end up as wildly different characters depending on your choices.
To me, that's more meaningful than plot based choices. Breaking Bad is a story about a man who starts in one place and ends up somewhere else entirely. The plot based stuff is almost incidental and certainly the less interesting part of the show.
    "There's just dialog differences..."
Dialog differences are the difference between your mother loving you or not, how meaningful your friendships are, how you interact with the world and how it responds.
Dialog differences are the only differences.

Netrunning definitely wasn't nerfed, imo -- if anything it's stronger post-2.0 (as long as you go all the way into int and unlock overclocking). The main downside of netrunning is that it's a bit less flashy than going heavy into guns/blades/fists, and it can be a bit clunky and slow down the flow of combat to constantly be scanning and hacking. That being said, in many encounters I can clear entire rooms undetected without firing a single shot. High-tier hacks like synapse burnout and system collapse can crit for tens of *thousands* of damage.

At launch i did no gigs (short missions) only speeding the main and some side stories, now i'm so pumped to get xp and test my build that i almost reached the level cap before starting the DLC.

I still had major bugs. T poses and stuff like that. I bought a 2080 in 2020 just to play Cyberpunk.
Tried the 2.0 update. At this point it's easier to say I don't like this game. Witcher 3 was my favorite before BG3 hit so I gave it too many chances. Playing a game I didn't really like.
Glad the hardcore fans like it. But I hope CDPR does another Witcher or more choice and consequence based RPGs in the future.

I'm loving the new update and glad that I can (finally) do a full playthrough of the game now that it's in a better state. But god damn, it's infuriating that they still never fixed that scene in the beginning with Takemura and the assassins on bikes. Nothing you do in that scene matters! It's such a cool set piece but it takes you out of it when you realize the entire scene is just on rails and you can sit back and watch with no consequences.

One of my all time favorite games. Been playing since the 1.6 patch and loved every second. On my third playthrough, now with the dlc.

The thing with RPGs is that I usually don't care about the story at all. Half the time I don't even know what's going on. I play these games to develop my character, level up and get loot. That's the fun for me. So as you said, there's not a lot of choice in the story in this game, there's a lot of choice in the gear so this is the kind of game I like.

Hope that for Cyberpunk 2 they add more choices and consequences, meaningfull backgrounds and made Night City more interactive/immersive.
Agreed with you when you said that Cyberpunk 2077 will never be the game they promised. Is more an action game than an RPG.

The 2.0 update has definetey improved the game a lot! I do think that the game is not as good as many people put it, precisely for what you say in your conclusions, the RPG side of the game, while not terrible nor awful, is definetly not one of its strongest point. It feels more like an action adventure where you are just experiencing what V did with very few deviations.
Adding to this that I expected more options in terms of customization, for you, for your cars, for your build, for you weapons maybe, the game does fall flat for me.
But, I still think its a great game, especially played as action adventure. Overall, for me its a 7, maybe an 7.5 out of 10.
I havent tried the DLC yet because there is no way I will buy CD Project Red products on day one any longer, sad because it was one of the few companies I usuadlly did. But the DLC just seems like more of the same, so maybe the complete edition might jump to an 8.

This game runs a LOT better now. I have a lower-end PC, running a 1660 Super and a Ryzen 7 3700X, and it auto set most settings to high and I have had no issues. I lowered a few things myself, such as shadows, but the only place I've really seen any frame drops were in Dogtown.

I played on a fairly decent PC at launch and apart from maybe a broken quest here or there most of what I experienced was just random t-posing jank and some map markers being in the wrong place. Didn't go all completionist with it at the time, as wanted to wait for them to patch it up, the story dlc and a much better graphics card. All of those things are true now, so its ready to be played just as soon as I finish Baldurs Gate up.

Worth noting that my frame rates INCREASED noticeably on my GTX 1060 6GB after the 2.0, 2.1, and 2.11 updates. The game is now pretty enjoyable on this card, which was not the case when I bought it in late 2021.
