This is my review of the NEXBOX A95X that features the Amlogic S905 Cpu, 1gB of DDR3 Ram and 8GB of Flash Storage with Android Lollipop 5.1.1
I benchmarked the NEXBOX A95X with:
Disk Speed Test, Antuntu, Geekbench 3, Network Speed Test, 3D Mark Score & Epic Citadel.
Tested the NEXBOX A95X with:
Big Buch Buny, Tears of Steal and Sintel Movies with H264 and H265 Codecs at 1080p and 4K resolutions without any problems whatsoever.
To test out 10 Bit playback capability i run 2 sample movies from Samsung, The Iceland and Dive Into The New World, both Ultra HD 10 bit video and the A95X played everything just perfect.
In terms of gaming this machines is not meant for it specially for 2 reasons:
1- It doesnt have Bluetooth so we cant connect Gamepads and also USB Gamepads are not recognized (Logitech F710)
2- 1GB of Ram is not enough for most of the games
Airplay was very smooth, used Air Pin Pro App iand i could mirror the Iphone SE and the Ipad Mini with Retina Display and stream content from it.
I also mirrored the Imac that delivers a higher bit rate files and played live slide shows from it and also a apple event and no issues once again.

Capable of Streaming & Mirroring Computers (OSX Airplay )
Things i Did Like The Least:
No Bluetooth
Not Capable of Playing Games

Hi Stephen, thanks for sharing. The A95X is not my personal style of box but definitely something to consider when on a budget.
Regarding streaming from windows / IOS / OSX to a android tv box i always use "Air Pin Pro" its a premium app, costs about 3€ but totally worth it. Then on IOS / OSX we dont need to install anything but on windows there is a small software to install that will let us stream anything on our windows machine to any box

Just got one of these and it works great, but Just one bit of info to add if people need it. The reset button is located in the AV jack. if you stick a pin in there you'll hear the button click.

I enjoy all of your presentations. I just received a NETBOX A95X-B7n from China. Unfortunately, none of the screens looked anything like those in your presentation. Kodi was almost unheard of. With a great deal of effort, I did get parts of Kodi running. I believe there are many releases of A95X, and I must have received a very old one from China. Very disappointing, but will keep searching for an inexpensive TV Box.
Hi Gordon, really sorry to hear that. I believe that you are right in terms of existing several versions of every unbranded box and that is one of the reasons i post the link of the exact same model i got that you can check on my video description. The A95X is a limited box but works depending on our needs off course.

Por curiosidad... cuando estabas viendo el video en 4K, la resolucion del aparato llegaba a dar el OUTPUT de 4K o es que solamente podia darle play a videos 4K en una resolucion de 1080p?
No he podido encontrar videos donde muestren que en los display settings tenga 4K.

Hi Roberto, I saw that there's a new A95X out now with 2G/8GB and running the S905X processor, even includes Bluetooth 4.0! Was wondering if you could please confirm how it compares to the original A95X, and most importantly if it can output in full 4K resolution?
Hey Warren, i did not review that unit but looks like its a better choice than the original A95X. I would also check the A5 that i tested last week with Android 6.0 i did like that one :)

Depends on what you will be doing, the MX IV is much superior for gaming etc

Nice review. Bought this box, worked fine, but with my new UHD tv the box keeps rebooting when the resolution is set to 1080p in the box. Any idea how this can be solved?

I'm looking at installing a device into our motel rooms as a means for guests to stream online without purchasing all new smart televisions (not too keen on spending hundreds PER ROOM). I am looking at keeping basic software on the system for guests to play their media from their portable drives, and allow them to stream Netflix etc. I also hope to lock guests out of crucial settings (I'm not the most tech-savvy, but positive I'll figure it out). Do you think the a95x would be suitable?
Hey Jason, humm honestly i would not install these boxes on hotel rooms. I know the hotel business as i have worked all my life in it and honestly it will be a headache for the reception service when things start to get "bad"
- Not everyone knows how to use a box and i bet that over 70% will give you a headache and probably bad rating to the hotel because of a simple situation.
- Clients want a simple tv solution that they can press up or down and watch channels, if they have something complicated (To them) and that might get out of the menu necessary to watch the channels or reboot or something than its going to be bad
My advice is, spend the money on Cheaper Smart TVs.
- And if you decide going to on Android TV Box solution chose something stronger like the new model Nexbox A5

Thank you. I totally understand what you mean and something that is a constant issue is ease of use. At the end of the day I was hoping it may have been a cheaper solution than buying all new tvs without too much hassle.
same box as the leelbox S1. All coming from the same factory. In case you want to price shop. I have the S1 and my particular box has poor wifi reception on download. The upload speed is fine. Its a stable box though and you can find these for around $35
I just bought two of the A95X boxes. They are almost perfect. I say almost, because of one of main reasons I bought them was to play vob files from a hard drive. The built-in video player is very good, and better than most available on the PlayStore. The major problem is the player will not play the vob audio, which is in the AC3 format. Any idea how to get the player to play audio on this box???
Hey Danny, try VLC, i would also suggest Kodi but i believe that you would need the all ISO image of the DVD / BR to be able to play

Roberto..... Kodi was a great suggestion. It worked perfectly and reads the VIDEO_TS.IFO file to get the required info to play the movie perfectly. Funny, I downloaded about a dozen media players from the PlayStore, and didn't think to try Kodi. It's feature rich also, with a slew of adjustable parameters. BTW, it read from my WD 6TB external HD without a problem....... Thanks for your help!!!

Hi Roberto I am from Australia finally within 4 months we will get full fibre to our home i have purchased 6 of these you are the best i have seen a question i need to ask of all you techo's out their i i connect six of these boxes of an 8 port ethernet switch back to my modem router by passing my PC to my Modem Router i do not want a full home network just run 6 TV's off modem router it sounds a Dumb question from an electrical engineer but i am not full savvy with this stuff so do they just create their own IP address or must they be networked Regards 65 OldEng
Hey Ken, hehe that is nice. Fibre is really necessary these days
Regarding your question, yes just connect them to your network router / swicth and they will get their own IP from your router and will get access to the web without issues or extra configurations :)

Is there a way to add a usb or micro sd card to increase RAM? I know it has the capability but is it "plug and play" or is there a set of instructions to use extra memory as additional RAM?

Hi Nic, check if the sound setting are correct, are you using a HDMI TV with sound speaker? If yes that should be your default output. If nothing works ask for a replacement unit as it might be damaged

Roberto Jorge Hi RJ, Thanks for your reply i think the unit is indeed faulty as it makes a horrendous screeching sound every few minutes when its on and in settings the HDMI cec icon is not showing i have updated to latest version when we received it straight away so not sure why i wouldn't have this icon do you know of any latest updates that i could install please? If you have any links for the latest firmware that i could try to install manually i would be very grateful if you could pm them too me please. Thanks in advance

thanks for the review, I bought this box right now but has some trouble with .mkv files sound. There is no sound when I play this files. And the other problem the Media Center. When I try to play the files from my computer installed the serviio there is no sound while playing the films. Do you have any idea please? Thanks in advance.

Hi Bodnar, i have my files in MKV and they play fine. My blue rays are in 1080p MKV format and i have both image and audio. Have you contacted Nexbox services to see if they have any idea of what is going on with your machine?

Hey :) Just download KK Launcher from the Google Play Store and then play around with it for a bit and you will have a different desktop :)

I have some concerns regarding the security of these devices. I was going to buy one of these.....but.
I'd like to know about the security of my online shopping etc... ? Are there security holes in these devices? Maybe even by design?
Hey Trent, this and all other devices are android machines so like any other android phone or any other OS there are risks and they will much depend on our way of using the device, the sites that we visit etc. If you use one of these devices to shop i would not use it to browse "weird" sites etc
I have never had any issue at all so far in terms of security with any of my android devices, and i dont use any anti virus :) on Android

I use Linux mint kde 17.3. So viruses aren't an issue. These android boxes are just so damn cheap. It's easy to get tempted.

Hehe!! I mean torrent sites, porn etc (risky sites) If you dont use these sites to much where usually are flooded with bad soft then your risk will be low.
Also a nº1 rule is never install anything that you dont know. Android has a lot of advertising everywhere and that is all fine but usually saying install this to get Android Faster ect and those programs will not help :)
So using it in "normal" websites and installing only exactly software that you know is legit and you wont have any probs

PS: Have in mind that the A95X is a really cheap machine and we get what we pay for, not sure if its the best option for a beginner. It might give you a not so pleasant experience and humm!! That wont be good.
I would say that the A95X would be a good machine for someone that already has a primary Android Tv Box and wants something cheap just to put on a bedroom and watch movies only for example

Humm!! I dont use that app, but see if removing it makes the box faster? If it does its the app it self that its not optimized

can i plug a bluetooth adapter on this device, and then configure to connect an ps3 or xbox 360 controller?
The 2GB RAM version of this box has bluetooth...for only a couple bucks more.
I have tested a usb BT adapter and it will not work, do as greg mentioned and get the 2GB version. Its worth it

The U1 is in a different league, it has faster storage, support, a big community, custom roms etc so its more expensive but i dont think that will have a update to marshmallow

Hi would advise against connecting these devices on AV, i suggest always a HDMI connection for the best result. AV sometimes wont work and when it does the quality is bad

I bought one and what little instructions that came with it was unable to connect to working wifi. You pay for what you get.
had the same issue, hit the reset button in the AV jack and it worked fine after that
The wifi on my unit is working fine, but try to do as Greg said and do a reset to see if it fixes your issue

Hi Daniel, youtube app usually limits depending on the bandwidth and at a maximum of 1080p with the exception of the Nvidia shield that goes up to 4K on YT and Netflix

I have an A95X with 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage. Unfortunately, after the last update, every time the box goes to sleep and wakes, it resets the language to the last entry on the list. Anyone have suggestions for a fix (other than betting a different box!) Thanks!

I just got this box yesterday, and I can't even get my bluetooth mini keyboard to work. Yes, it has bluetooth and it says that my keyboard is paired and connected, but nothing. I'm ready to send the box back if I can't use my keyboard with it.
Hi Dunlap, the unit that i tested was limited as i said in some features including no BT. If you have this exact box there is no BT, if you have BT then its a different version and yes if you need BT you should get a replacement or refund

No, mine had BT, it just didn't work. On any BT stuff. I even tested my BT stuff on other devices and they paired up fine. I already returned the box to amazon. It was crap anyway lol
I'm trying to use with jack av but not works.
AV out is a nightmare on any of these machines, i only suggest using it with HDMI tvs

not suitable for gaming? many android games are very simple, i have a smartphone with only 512 MB and many games works.
When i mean not suitable for gaming, i mean that if someone wants to game there are hundreds of machines that will work a lot better.
- The A95X cannot connect USB Gamepads, cannot Connect BT Gamepads, only 1GB of ram so most demanding games will stuck or reboot the machine so beleive me that this is not the machine for gaming
- Do not forget the amount of pixels on a phone and on the tv
- If you want to play simple games with a mouse and keyboard you can, but you can do that in everything that runs android and that does not make this machine a suitable for games device.
The A95X has only one purpose, play videos and that is it. Great price for that but nothing more

Y can't I update to 17.
No Michael, at least not from the manufacturer. This is a budget box without OS updates. Non the less its possible to find on the web some custom roms developed by some people that might be able to update the OS to 5.1.1 and then install Kodi 17

one good thing about this remote control is it is programable ..it will learn the codes on other remotes so you can use it to turn your tv on / off with it..oh btw Roberto does this have a reset button in the AV port ? a lot of these s905 boxes are suppose to have the reset button in the AV port but don't so flashing the ROM when it crashes is not possible
Yep the remote is ok for a IR.
Regarding the reset switch im not sure if it does as usually i dont change roms, i use them as they come :)

problem is a lot of the mxq pro boxes have unstable roms...they just take android built for a phone and burn it to rom for these boxes...a good box will have a reset hole for restoring it after a crash

I believe that even a bigger problem is when they dont try to fix the issues. Every device has the right to have bugs but support will make a difference from a usable experience and a bad experience.
Unfortunately when we drop on prices we also drop support etc
