I'd never really heard much from Jos (The Boss) Verstappen himself over the years and this was just the tonic to give me a better idea of the man himself and his son, Max. What impressed me the most was his candidness talking about his early days, his choices, his races and how he got started in F1, none of which I knew about and I've been a long-term (almost die-hard) fan of F1 since I first saw Senna spin out of Barcelona in 1992. Thanks, Tom for an interesting podcast and for filling me in on the man whom I always admired but never really knew much about; now at least I have a better idea of who he is.
Yeah. He also had some personal scandels. He used to have quite a temper, but seemed to calm down alot and become quite a gentle man. (two words) Just ignore all the haters and keep looking at current behavior :)
Listening to this with 2 races in the 2021 championship, rooting for Max to bring home a W for himself and his family, much respect to Jos for his humbleness and for guiding one of the great drivers of his generation to such success.
Jos Verstappen was one hell of a driver, has some weaknesses though Max was probably just created in a lab to have all of his dads traits but no weaknesses. Scary to think about.

This is what is called: LOVE. If there ever was a man able to love his son beyond the moon and back it is Jos. From every word he speaks, from every nuance in tone, from every breath you hear the love this man is feeling for max drips out of this podcast, it oozes out of his whole being and the most wonderful of it all is that it is returned by his son in the same overwhelming avalanche of feeling when Maxed asked about his heroes, he answers: 'My dad, ... yes if I have a hero.. my dad is my hero'. .... I must admit that all this makes me very emotional and happy.
Dont know about you guys, but in my opinion the future Vettel podcast will be the most interesting one, imagine all the questions we all want to know asked about Ferrari, Charles and the recent bad performance ...
Tom is *not* the problem. Active drivers can't say shit because they're still *under contract.* If you guys notice, the best interviews so far have been with *retired* drivers. They can spill the beans on everything they went through behind the scenes in F1. So let's wait until Vettel retires to have him on the podcast.

Every Father can imagine the amazing belief Joss has in his son and the disbelief and relief that things are going so well for him. What a fortunate family because life is largely random after all. Amazing that since I’ve followed F1 I’ve witnessed Schumacher then Hamilton and now Max race. All legends.
Love Jos since back in the day. But what I love more is the relationship he has with Max. I watched every single interview of them and it always brings a tear to my eyes ❤️
Jos and Max don't beat around the bush. A lot of F1 fans prefer to hear the sweet-talk drivers are media-trained to barf out. They should stick with Hamilton. The man is a brilliant F1 pilot, but I can't listen to him anymore. I rather hear this man. It's real. Thanks for this podcast.

I agree. I know podcasts are meant to be just audio but most these days have a video version on youtube and audio only on spotify etc I love being able to see what's going on otherwise I find myself getting side tracked on my phone and then not concentrating on the podcast.
This podcast shows how perfectly calculated & balanced is Max Verstappen's career in F1 by his father Jos. Max has everything on his side in order to be a successful driver in F1. We just have to wait & see the final outcome of his illustrious F1 career in the making.
Nice to have a Jos interview, and I sure enjoyed it well. Nevertheless, Jos seemed to remain o the surface of things and not go into detail. The Benetton time could have been discussed more, as well as more juicy info on how Max got into F1 at RB and not Mercedes. Anyhow, Jos is a legend for me for some of his awesome drives, notably Malaysia 2001 in the rain. I still think he could have achieved so much more if he only had the right people around him to manage his obvious difficult temper and coach him for the race. As some pointed out, Jos drove each race as if it was his last..with a little less risk taking, sort of like Max is doing now, he could have gone far. Who knows, anyhow, thanks to Tom for having invited Jos to the podcast.
i have been a fan of the boss all his career. hearing him speak unprovoced in this Quality interview and reading the comments below make me a happy man indeed! jos gave it his all, it wan't meant to be..f1 is a harsch place..the verstappen encore he diliverd with max is nothing less than sweet justice in the end. i will be loving it when that first vertappen title arives at last.

I don't know much about Jos as a person or driver, but I have to give him credit as a father. Not every father can admit his son is better than him, especially in the same ultra-competitive field. Jos seems to be truly happy for Max and wants the best for him.

It's like a button can pop any second 😂 When Jos drove he also had a big Dutch fanbase, he was our hero and we all went to Spa Francorchamps to see him racing. I remember Spa when I was young with the hotels and campings open and fully booked. The town was one big party. Now the town is so silent with the spooky hotel en closed campings. The new Dutch Max fans are really different but they are awesome!
i grew up watching Jos racing, and loved his gritt and lion heart, all or nothing. also he had a great vibe in every team he raced for, mechanics loved him, similar to Max. ofcourse there was also some negative publicity around his person, but i honestly believe we all have weaknesses. seems like a cool guy to have a coffee with, much more relaxed and balanced also then he used to be. wish them all the best.

Drove so many great liveried cars. None of them ever came together for him sadly, shows just how many great talents slip through the cracks in F1

And beat championship contending Irvine in 2 races. That same year Salo was teammates with Villeneuve at BAR. And Villeneuve outqualified him by over a second on average in qualifying. Jacques would have bagged the 1999 title by ease if he was at Ferrari or McLaren.

Jos had indeed bad luck in his F1 career but we must not forget that Jos was and is a very good raindriver just like Jacky Ickx from Belgium Jos was a winner in the wet just had bad luck in his career but........... Max has the good genetics from his mother a champion in karting and his father Jos but Jos made Max he tought him very very well !!! that is the biggest achievement of Jos personaly , Jos deserves our deepest respect for that !!!!
