I recently filled my 3.4 cuft ported box with 4 8s and man what a difference it made on the low end it will drop to 25 to 22hz and flutter. Before it would drop off @ 34 hz and just cause port chuffing. I highly recommend stuffing ported subwoofer boxes. I will say it took away from how loud the highs get but man is the trade off worth it!
Yeah I've used non-itch fibreglass in a ported box, actually does quite well, and there doesn't seem to be too much dust/debris floating around, so maybe results vary brand to brand. I used non-itch stuff if that effects results. Still itches the throat.
yeah I felt it in the throat, had to wrap my hoodie around my face like a taliban. Didn't want to get the other one cos it seemed a bit too thick, originally I'd gone to get another one but came back with this.
l hot glued the acoustic spunge in my 3 way vintage HD66 Marrantz 150w , it made a huge difference because i did one a day and so compared them against each other twice . I know they are old like my ears but does glue help? Does fiberglass damage speaker cones ? Happy wife happy life .
glue would help keep the filling in place more or less. I don't recommend fibre glass in a ported enclosure, but some sort of equivalent lung friendly insulation would work just as well.
+DieselPunk Cummins he's well trained, he doesn't scratch anything but his scratching posts, he might use the carpet to stretch out on but no other furniture has scratch marks. My in-laws cat however, god DAMN!
Im doing a masters in acoustics on the effect of filling enclosures with multiple different pourus materials, loft insulation being one. and modeling the effects mathmaticaly on different types of enclosure based on their order. So far my results measured in a fully anechoic chamber arn't far off yours, the differences seem to also follow the same trend as my much more controled environment. you might want to try activated charcoal as that so far has the greatest effect on the frequency bands and is remarkably good at flattening frequency response.
cool, this is an old video. Loft insulation works the best for my application, activated charcoal (mostly carbon) I only use in the filters attached to the extractor fans in my w33d tents ;) All the best with your master class!!
Just did this with my krk 10s, there allready was some in it but it looked like it needed more. Once i filled up some space and turned it on i noticed the low frequencie’s were less and the more bumpy bass i got ( must say i could feel the bass a little more after i stuffed polyfill in it and saw that the woofer was moving much more. ) I decided to get the fill back out cause i was missing my lower frequencies👍
@@Itsjafferr oh I thought you meant the main speakers, either way monitor speakers are for the most part designed to be the way they are, so I wouldn't mod them. A big old car speaker in a DIY box though, that's a little different. Cheers
From an old school installer... I have always used screen like from a screen door or window over the polyfil and stapled for a super clean install. The screen is super cheap on a roll from the big box hardware stores. Just saying... a year later.
All my cars has always been sealed boxes. I listen to heavy metal with very fast kick drums. I built a ported box tuned to 32HZ and it’s much louder but the fast kick drums sound too boomy. Kinda sloppy sound. So I was wondering if the poly mat would take out the boomy sound. Give it more of a tight sound
Mine was tuned to 28hz and I've had 2 15's in a 34hz box in the past, both sounded great with metal/rock but results can vary from system to system. If you primarily listen to metal maybe stick to a sealed box, but if you want to tune it go for 35-40hz.
This is how science experiments are done, well done Stoner bro! Anyone else with a similar box will be able to repeat what's done here and get similar results. Thanks for this!
ok, nice vid. ...i see it coming ..."later, ...other port mod and a 3rd order low pass filter." always enjoy your vids My Stoner mind. keep it going. greetings.
I use a LG sl6y sound bar with the sub worth of 220 watts . I really want to ask if this stuffing would work for me . Though it sounds amazing but lack some deep Tone bass which I always noticed from my dude Samsung sound bar worth of 130watt Question is can I stuff it ? And how should it goes Too bad I can’t attach a picture here would have shown you how the sub looks maybe you can figure that out and let me know what you think guys please very important
Not done with the vid but like i said previously i wanted to put polyfill into my 15 inch mid and well i got a material almost exactly the same chucked a lil bit in the one 15s box and well it really smoothed the sound out and idk why it seems louder maybe its true potential came out due to the lack of some noises the hollow interior made btw this is a sealed box i will be trying it with my other 15s someday im curious cuz those are ported hmm
Yeah when I play 15hz Satan comes outside of my flesh and bone and looks me in my hollow eyes and trys to suck what is left of my soul out, kinda strange
Once again, great video!!! I like how you through something funny in each video. "Balls" lol I don't have any movie ideas, but I just started watching a TV show on Netflix with my wife, TV show is called "disjointed", its super funny!! Your stoner mind will like it.
i use poly-fil for my enclosed box cuz my car doesn;t have enough space for aported cuz i like the deeper bass a ported proudces vs punchier bass from an enclosed and it is a very noticable difference when i put poly-fil in the enclosed much deeper and boomier bass while keeping the initial punch which is perfect
Why is it that some people can handle fiberglass insulation without problems..... and some people cannot get near it without itching? Stuff never bothered me.
So go with a higher tuned box and use this stuff to lower the tuning back to what you had before. Makes more sense when you are very space limited and you are trying to lower tuning to where you want it within reason. Problem is your box is already tuned correctly. That mid 20s peak is exactly what you would want from a powerful 18in subwoofer. Losing that volume between 25-40hz would be undesirable in my opinion. Unless you really want to improve those 17 hz tones you can barely hear. Made me realize I should probably not do this to the box I'm making for my 15s. They aren't high end woofers with a lot of throw and the box is already tuned to 34hz. I'm going to add a 50hz 12db subsonic filter anyways to lower the power pushed through the subwoofers at those low frequencies because below port tuning you lose cone control. Adding fill would be counter intuitive for what I'm doing. I can see it dampening mechanical noise a bit though but I'll have to test my system first before hand. I bet there will be 5 other things vibrating in the car to worry about before dealing with the mechanical noise.
im what people call the noob to it i just got it 3 months ago..... so far music making for SPL is good using FL Studio over Audacity for rebassing or boosting songs are a whole-nother lvl . lol FLS = cleaner bass lines and control while Audacity = you never know what your going to get haha what do you use your FL Studio for?
+juggalo4life_91 oh nice well being a DAW, it's made to do what some people would otherwise do with Audacity. I primarily use it to make music with, but it's great for other audio related work too.
Reference Level is a standard, known, predictable and reproducible playback volume level. When movie sound tracks are crafted, they are done so on systems which are locked at this level. The sound artist does not play around with a big volume knob when doing his/her work. If the sound artist wants something to be loud, they make that sound loud within the sound track. When they want something to be soft, they make that element soft within the sound track. Movie theaters set their playback level by the exact same rules, so when the movie is shown, you hear EXACTLY what the sound artist heard when they were making the piece. Loud, soft, in-between, it's all there, and no one touches the master volume knob over the course of a two-hour movie. To achieve THX certification, components must play at this reference level without breaking, distorting, buzzing, rattling or any other distracting effects.
I've done cardboard speaker Box, didn't sound good, maybe sound better with poly-fil, plus my subs were to heavy for cardboard, slowly fell apart with bass
Nice demonstration, good stuff!

great work and computers don't lie!!! I like your approach and the explanation is very clear. Thank you!
i generally forward the videos to get to the point i am looking for but your NARRATION made me to watch it ALL...haha
+manoj Mahale haha, I don't mind either way man ✌️😉
jajajaa Im also a creative stoned mind. I liked this video. Sometimes you where kind of inside my head
How come peanut doesn't scratch his nails on the box? When I leave my old boxes inside Dumptruck uses them to sharpen her nails.

Excuse my ignorance but adding that much polyfill lowered your frequency?
Solid cut of soundman... Was waiting for the explosion lol.
I am lol when you did the sound for the cat looking at your camera.
I use Poly-fil in small sealed enclosures for more of a cleaner sound.
does it let the sup play lower?

ps great professional video

I'm going to try it naow thanks
Is your box sealed or ported?
@@giltyal5912 hahah no way….. i posted this 4jrs ago lol. That subwoofer was ported

yeah personally I wouldn't try it with monitors, cheers for the comment though
My Stoner Mind dont get me wrong, i did it with the krk 10s subwoofer. Not with the monitors ( maybe i misunderstand you? )
@@Itsjafferr oh I thought you meant the main speakers, either way monitor speakers are for the most part designed to be the way they are, so I wouldn't mod them. A big old car speaker in a DIY box though, that's a little different. Cheers

"It doesn't matter what you did, Doug"

Hahaha, I see that u went thru so much trouble to come up with ur results. I'm the same way buddy. Keep making more videos my funny friend.
haha thanks for watching
Awesome video. I’m getting ready to apply insulation to my speakers enclosure but don’t know If i should glue or staple the insulation to the body

How does this sub preform in a sealed box? I have an z5500 sub in a diy sealed box for my bang&olufsen beolabs. It sounds so good
It's not designed for sealed so I haven't tried it

Put dry ice in your sub box and play it
@@isaachart4136I put dry ice in my sealed sub box. It was very boomy. Or at least it went boom.
I opened a box like that and i found 2 bags of sand,, is that possible?? ...TX if u answer..
yeah sometimes. The weight makes the box more dense and can sometimes improve the bass a little.
so if i put all my single socks that i cant find the second pair for in my sub box i get better sound great
Simonarne Myklebust , they can't have holes in them or dirty.
My ButtKicker amp won't power up. Do you have any ideas about how I can fix it?

Hey, just curious- do you ever notice anything strange when you're playing around down there between 18 and 20 hz?

Hi, you should teach how to calculate the volume size of the box for woofers
You can find that information on google
Peanut in the beginning of this video is the funniest!!!!!
Hey you could use google slides instead of power point.
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I usually stuff with a pillow works the same. It helps so much!
Yep. Polyfill Pillows though. Not goose down or cotton or foam 😂
Whats the music at the end ?
Loved the beats... Anyhow, fantastic vídeo man !
Awsome my cat plays fetch too
Isn't it gonna blow out nasty insulation particles when the bass hits? I hate insulation
No and that's why you have to know what insulation to use and how to install it.

Why is it that some people can handle fiberglass insulation without problems..... and some people cannot get near it without itching? Stuff never bothered me.
Why can't u use recycled glasswool?
It will blow the glass out into the air. If you are anything like me I can't look at the stuff without itching everywhere.
Next time please add some street fighter sound affects
What part of England you live ??
Are you even using your car amp or is it just decoration? :D I thought Peanut would go into the sub box but nah :D They say cats like small places :D

what is the background music? i like the beat
Thanks My Stoner Mind, I know what a cat is now;)
1:18 if you don't get the joke 🤔
LOL same
It can make Sense to put a little bit in to a sub. Specialy for bassmid speakers like a 2way it is realy NEEDED!
I wote for the cat, he is sceptical. Mmmmmmjau??
Doesn't a speaker in a cardboard box sound like a horrible idea
Yes im the same person
kind of, it'd be funny though
Tony lets test it out 😂
I've done cardboard speaker Box, didn't sound good, maybe sound better with poly-fil, plus my subs were to heavy for cardboard, slowly fell apart with bass
why do you think we wanna see him do it
It makes the box less loud but gives it lower extension.
if it increases lower extension, it's making those frequencies louder.
Mind = Blown :D
Did you forget to turn off Deinterlacing
😁 That stuff looks nice
Hmm was only 5 seconds gg yt
It's the frame rate 😜
I use pillows
The white polyfill was the best
+Gamerdu45 😂😂😂 how'd you get to that conclusion
Because you get the most volume at the lowest frequency (if i understand the graph) :D but not everyone like the lows
+Gamerdu45 but the graph shows higher volume at lower frequencies 😃
thats what i want
I got that with the big roll I bought. The white Poly-fil is the similar to having no Poly-fil because it's no where near enough for the box.
And I continued what I was doing 😂😂😂😂😂😂
How's peanut ? anyway stoner
Hahaha he is a cat
