Yeah, once you build up enough sample knowledge, you kind of notice a lot of breaks and samples often used in hip hop.
Old hiphop-LPs had to list the samples they used on the back of the LP. Because of Copyright-stuff.
But it also required research I believe

I mean...it's all on discogs anyway. It has much better credits data base than genius, so it's not that hard to find those things and make a video. On the other hand editing and finding all those videos is indeed a great work by bandstand.

I just cannot wrap my head around this album. Endtroducing broke the mould of an 'all sampled' album and it *is* great... but Since I Left You is just something else. The intricacy of the sampling and how it's all carefully weaved together is just utterly bonkers.
A vision and a lot of time.
Albums like SILY are extraordinarily rare; while The Avalanches still make some good music, nothing they'll ever make will have the sheer level of cohesion, detail and richness as their magnum opus again.
This is pretty much the best-produced album in history. Nothing like this will ever be done again in contemporary pop music for a long while.
Madvillainy is like the rap version of this album imo

Lowkey, I got teary-eyed watching this. Not only because it was well-conceived and expertly-produced, but it also gave me flashback feels from the time I heard it when it was new.

I don't know why but this video makes me really emotional. I think it's partly the work that went into and partly how beautiful and intricate the sampling is. This is seriously one of the most genius albums I've ever listened to.

I've never listened to this album and still decided to see this and its insane how natural these sound to the point where it sounds like only 4 or 5 samples being meshed together. Its pretty much daft punk's face to face for a whole album
It's honestly even crazier than FTF on each song. Considering there was quite literally over 3 THOUSAND unique little tid-bits used as samples I'd say FTF covers not even a 10th of what one SILY song could.
Also go listen to the full thing, I don't recommend albums much but this one is a MUST listen.
Highly recommend listening to this album. As well as their other albums!
Hey, man, sincerely beautiful video. Everything about it was flawless from the tight editing, the passionate effort to make this, and the more-than-perfect footage of general nostalgic ephemera, human experience, unabashed dancing, and other spot-on appropriate visuals throughout the video.
This is the most impeccable love letter to SILY that I've ever encountered. It truly shows that you without a doubt have some of the best understanding of what this music is all about and why we all love it so.
I don't mean to get too cheesy but this genius video really had a huge emotional effect on me as I too have deep connections with this record, band, etc.

This is probably one of the best videos on this whole site, and I mean that with no exaggeration. I think Paris would've loved it. The dissection of Frontier Psychiatrist was my favorite part, I can't imagine how long that song alone took you. I wish "With My Baby" was included, but I can see you had enough on your plate as is! The transformation of the samples is incredible, on top of that, making them work together so seamlessly is bewildering, how the hell do you even start?
Paul's Boutique, Entroducing and Since I left you. Albums made by wizards using magic. I love the thought that when the artists and bands made the original songs they had no idea that later some guy would pick up their records and create something much much bigger and more beautiful than the sum of their parts. They could never have imagined a 3 second loop of their music would change the direction of folks lives.
20 years and the album is still just as amazing

the best thing about being an Aussie is that I was raised on this album. born in 1999 and it's stayed with me up until adulthood and probably for many more years.

This is incredible. I have to say that the Avalanches are easily my favorite artist with Since I Left You being my favorite album. It's kind of cool that you talked in the beginning of how you became an Avalanches fan and esp3cially about your friend Paris. I first heard of the Avalanches with their song Frontier Psychiatrist since I heard on a couple of RUclips videos in like 2010. I didn't really research them up much until I heard that song again in 2015 when I saw the Music Videos for both Frontier Psychiatrist and Since I Left You. They were so amazing and it left me with a feeling (A Different Feeling, if you will.) the next day. I then went on to search up other songs from that album and got hooked. It was ironic that the moment I finally became a full Avalanches fan was when they announced making Wildflower. Even though I don't listen to them as frequently as I did before, they are easily the most influential artists for me. They're the reason I could dig into other talented artists (Dj Shadow, J Dilla) and started listening to music again since I wasn't really a music fan at the time. They are even the reason I started making videos, since I always wanted to make a sample video of Since I Left You but I didn't know every sample in the album which I felt would be a disservice to them. Thus video makes me so happy to not only realise that there are more Avalanches fans but that their music is appreciated with the respect and hard work the band deserve for making this album.
tl;Dr: The Avalanches are better than food.

Occasionally you see and hear something something so epic it sticks with you. You'll rewatch it until it grows so familiar you may seem to temporarily lose interest. But, come back after any period of time later, and youll still see and hear the beauty of it.
Since I left You... Still one of my all time fav tunes. The sheer creativity of the guys who crafted the song from those samples. Beautiful. Thanks for this video btw

And that was a SPECTACULAR journey! This is one my of all time favourite albums. There is something special about the album. The diversity of music styles, it maintaining this theme of luxury, funk, dance...just wow! Awesome vid!

This isn't really a criticism of sampling, but I have to admit I really hate the lack of accessible accrediting across all media.
I would've never found the source of that Rasputin song's beat if not for this video as well. (Ma Baker). This issue kind of extends to my own field of illustration-- seeing how someone is influenced and why and how and letting me discover more creators in the process benefits everyone but especially those who built the foundation for the ones sampling, referencing, etc.
This is aaaammmmaaaaaaazzziiinnggggg...I can't believe I am just discovering this gem, the amount of time, the genius, the intricacies, just everything blows my mind. Thank you.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for this video. As background, I've been a hip-hop head since the late 90s. Got into the underground and RJD2 and all of them, LOVED Deadringer. A few months ago, I Googled 'albums like Deadringer' and came across a forum post suggesting the masterpiece that is Since I Left You. To be brief, I CAN'T BELIEVE NONE OF MY HIP-HOP FRIENDS INTRODUCED ME TO THIS BACK IN THE DAY! This is the music of my dreams. It even made me go out and purchase a new turntable to start sampling again. If anyone's interested, I put an instrumental album out similar to this in 2004 called Circling Vultures (artist name: Nygh)
