The people of eyam are inspiring. One group of people set out to save a country. The government could learn from this example. They didn’t take, they gave in order to protect. I’d love to know more about the individuals and their lives. Goodness, what made them think this way?
Your videos are very well researched and presented. Plague was just like COVID, quarantine was the only safeguard against it. We still need to be cautious as it's a living organism constantly evolving it's form.
The very standards established by a pastor saved Eyam. I doubt another in the community would had the sway to enforce quarantine. US conservative Scotus ruled the opposite and no doubt added to the numbers of infected, deaths during our covid outbreak. Churches were opened. What a disastrous ruling.
I heard this village mentioned at the beginning of quarantine here in the US. I believe it was in passing. One day I hope I get to travel overseas to visit the UK, and I may have to add this village to the list. Odd, only one or two things I want to see in London, every else is in quite hole in the walls.😆
We have plenty of quirky and unusual places to visit here in the U.K 🇬🇧. London is wonderful..for a while, the rest of the country, amazing. Hope you can make it and visit us one day.
Another interesting piece of info about the survivors in Eyam was found in a genetic study... a gene mutation known to give immunity to HIV was found at a statistically significantly higher rate in the modern day descendants of the Eyam plague survivors. PBS did an episode about this on its Secrets of the Dead series.

Thank you for this history of Eyam! Courageous villagers!
I once read The Year of Miracles, which was a pretty good retelling of the story ! Romanced of course but still awesome

It’s a quaint place and the rest of Derbyshire has some interesting and beautiful places to see while you’re there.
Love these videos thank you

This late medieval farming village handled the worst plague so much better than most modern people handled our current pandemic
Un fléau depuis des siècles ! Découverte par un Français : Yersinia pestis. 🤗😋
