Thank you so much! I am always a student and want to learn more. Just trying to share what I can from my studies. I personally would LOVE to visit these countries and really get deep with the historians and learn a lot more.

Do it Juan these are super valuable grooves most don't even know they're hearing them in dance music. Plus they open up great Possibilities in one's Playing. Love your work.
Juan, I just want to say, I first saw you play on the Guitar Centre Drum-Off back in the day and now you're making this awesome educational stuff but also your playing has reached a whole new level. The presentation of this information is so slick, thorough and well-considered. The examples are played so frickin' cleanly as well. Mad respect, mate! Keep em coming.
Dude thank you so much for your kind words. Seriously means a lot and I am so glad you dig the material! Please share the channel with your drumming buds! Much love and respect!
I appreciate that! Might do another one in the future with some harder examples, but I wanted to at least get people started and really give Afrobeat a chance. Lots of great Afrobeat grooves out there!
For sure I know it is, but It’s just an overview. Can’t put together decades of information in a 7 minute video. Wasn’t my intention at all. Hope that clarifies things and thanks for checking on the video. Have an amazing day!

Juan, nice video but afrobeat started earlier than the date u mentioned and it originated in Sierra Leone originally the settlement of the freed slaves from England. Fela made it popular but he learnt it in Sierra Leone.
Wow I am so intrigued and confused now. We have people in the comments saying it originated in Ghana, Nigeria, and now Sierra Leone. It’s just fascinating how history is so intertwined. Definitely going more down the rabbit hole with this. Thanks for your insight!!
Yeah you're right, I totally flubbed that Example #4 with the notation smh. Trying to get so much done that I overlooked that. Thanks for checking out the video.
PLEASE Fill me in. I’m very interested to learn more. I am legit interested and always on the search to learn more about the history of music, origins, etc.
The origin of Afro beats shouldn't matter. Fela was a great contributor to its rise being one of the first to do it. I'm not bragging being that I'm nigerian but Nigeria brought afro beats to mainstream media, let's not spread lies and misinformation.
The difference between the Ghanaian highlife and the Nigerian Afrobeat is the just the placement count of the 'clave' Regardless Afrobeat originated from Ghana but Nigerians modified it😂😂❤❤ My 2 cents!!!🎉🎉
Great to know! I'm so fascinated with this interaction. Love that bit of information! Can I ask a question and I'm being totally serious, is there animosity between Nigerians and Ghanaians about the origins of Afrobeat? If so, what's the reason for it in your opinion. I am personally curious. Just trying to soak in as much information as I can. Thank you ahead of time!
No Fela, No Afrobeats. When you are talking about the 'Original Afrobeats' and not what is now commercialised as afrobeats/afro fusion or whatever, Fela is the pioneer. Why will you come out and say Nigeria is twisting the truth when history clearly shows us who championed the afro beat movement. Can you mention any Ghanaian musician before Fela that had that style of music? If so kindly enlighten us
Bro... you got chops but that music you're playing to is god damn awful. There's no real instruments or humanity in that electro attempt at Afrobeat at all and Isn't that what Africa is all about.Life and Humanity? Play to better music please bro... you'll sound soooooo much better. Peace ;)

Please fill me in. Tell me where I should look then to find more information? I would like to know. I really would (not being facetious). I’m not here to argue with people about this or that.
