"Annie are you ok?" He came up with that when he looked over to the CPR doll. Back in the 80's and 90's when you’re learning CPR, you shake the doll and say, "Annie are ok?!"
I have to answer the skin thing. Michael Jackson had a skin condition called Vitiligo, which causes 'blotching' or light spots. He used light makeup to help blend and eventually went through bleaching processes to make it even.
Lots of people of all skin tones have vitiligo. And some of them use makeup to cover it up. But they use makeup the color of their natural skin tone. MJ had issues that went a lot deeper than a skin condition. Still managed to be the greatest performer of all time.
@@MiddleAgedBob MJ did use dark makeup for years tho, but he had Vitiligo Universalis where the whole body is affected. So as time went on his condition became where he had more white skin than dark skin, it wouldn't make sense to do full body makeup every time you step out the door. It's a very common thing for people with vitiligo universalis to "switch" tactics to have an even skin tone, it's just a rarer form of the condition and MJ was constantly in the eye of the public who thanks to the media made it into this "weird" thing because a lot of people had never seen it before. He used Benoquin cream on his face and hands, wich lightens the dark blotches and works only on skin of vitiligo patients (FDA approved), agian commonly used for vitiligo sufferers. So to say someone had "issues" when you don't know the situation is unfair to do. Sorry for the whole rant but just wanted to shed some light onto it.
Your reactions make me laugh and smile. Great work and thanks for sharing. I think your subscribers are making great recommendations so far. I have enjoyed the variety. I saw the Jackson's Victory Tour and MJ did a great job live so this was a fun one.
Michael got the name "Annie" from the CPR plastic training doll. The dolls name is Annie. And, when you get CPR training they tell you the first thing you say to a victim is "are you ok?". Now you know. I used to be a lifeguard and had to take the classes.
Every new video MJ released during the height of the MTV days was a huge deal. A world premier that usually played all day and was hyped up for weeks before. I still recall watching this world premiere and trying desperately to scrape my chin off the floor during the lean. No one knew what to make of that and we couldn't even rewind. 😂 Have you seen the full version of The Way You Make Me Feel? That's definitely a must!
Great reaction, Shon! I'm a classic rock lover myself, but I'm also an old guy. So, I remember when the Jackson 5 were on the television all the time, along with the Osmonds, etc... The OG MJ has always had a special place in my heart. Regardless of how strange his personal life seemed to be, as a performer, there was none better. “Jam”, the video he did with Michael Jordan was unfuckingbelievable !!!! The humor, then the guest stars. Unreal. Also “Give In To Me” is by far the sexiest song he’s ever done. Most people don’t think sex appeal when talking about MJ. But he turns it ON in this song and video…
Michael was labeled as many things over the years. Inventor is not often mentioned. Yes, the moonwalk was cool, but Mike didn't invent it. He did, however, invent the technology that allowed the dancers in this video to do that lean.
I love that you are going back and choosing to watch the king as an adult and appreciating the true genius Michael Jackson was and will always be. You were that kid. So was I. ❤
Michael Had Vitilago - which made parts of his skin turn light, for years he covered it with makeup to blend in his skin colour - finally it was easier for him to blend in with the lighter tones - its well known check out this The Jacksons: An American Dream (TV Mini Series 1992 - it will give you some insight into younger life etc
A lot of people don't know MJ held a few patents on inventions. One was a cleat that was screwed to the stage floor. And a loop that was on the bottom of his specially made shoes slipped over it. So he would dance into position and attach his shoes to the steel cleat, which allowed him to lean and seemingly defy gravity. There must have been some special brace that strapped to his legs as well to keep him in his shoes.
To this day, we have no idea if " annie is okay." Lol. MJ was one of a kind. Very blessed to be living while him and his brothers and janet were tops. Have you seen " black and white" by him?
@@shon1303Shon...you HAVE TO CHECK OUT this cover of *"Smooth Criminal"* by Alien Ant Farm!!! They give tribute and show love in every single way you can think of to MJ!! ruclips.net/video/CDl9ZMfj6aE/видео.html
And for those of you that are too young, These were EVENTS on MTV, when Micheal dropped a new video the world waited with anticipation....they were great little mini-movies. Funny story around MJ, My youngest was about 6, I listen to almost exclusively the 80's on 8 on SiriusXM radio. We're all in the car and I remarked to my wife " Do you remember when MJ was black?" My son from the backseat exclaims " Micheal Jackson was BLACK! You people don't tell me anything!" he was absolutely indignant that we didn't tell him, to be honest it never mattered really, we've laughed about that for years!
Fun reaction! Nobody can beat magical Michael when it comes to smoothness for sure! It's as if he has some other substance besides bones as he is so fluid! The lean was imagined by Michael and it is special heels with slots that fit into grooves in the floor. So of course they have to be in an exact spot to make it work. However you have to have great core strength to pull it off and he has that for sure! You can see him perform this song live on tour and you won't need a filter as it is not an "official" video. A good one would be from Rumania in 1992 I think. They do a great job live. Most all of his tour videos don't require a filter! And speaking of filters there are other choices that aren't so dark you might look for✌️
MJ invented long form music videos...his Thriller video was groundbreaking for a lot of reasons, not just the make-up and special effect legends or the legendary director..but the amazing dancers and choreography. His sister, Janet, also did some long form videos.
The chorus refrain, "Annie, are you OK?", was inspired by Resusci Anne, a dummy used in cardiopulmonary resuscitation training. Trainees learn to say "Annie, are you OK?" while practicing resuscitation on the dummy.[10]
Had all his albums! I was a HUGE MJ fan. He was such a phenomenal talent and his dance moves are one of a kind. He was just pecked to death by so many and it makes me sad.
Oh believe me, during that era, IN HIS PRIME, a lot of people were calling him the GOAT as an entertainer, including his amazing dance skills. It's only THIS GENERATION that doesn't fully appreciate his greatness.
Your reaction to Michael Jackson makes me so happy. I grew up watching him starting with The Jackson 5 and then through his solo career. As a girl growing up in the 1960's and 70's there was so much great music to listen to, but like there will never be another Elvis, there will also never be another Michael Jackson. His creativity is unmatched. He was so diverse in what and who influenced his dance moves from both prior generations and contemporaries like James Brown, Elvis, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, The Nicholas Brothers, Sammy Davis Jr., Jackie Wilson, Bob Fosse, Marcel Marceau, Charlie Chaplin, and Jeffrey Daniel. Then he took all that knowledge and put his own stamp on it. All his music videos are incredible. You've done Smooth Criminal and Thriller so I'm going to suggest another couple of my favorites: The Way You Make Me Feel ruclips.net/video/HzZ_urpj4As/видео.html Remember the Time which also starred Eddie Murphy, Iman (model/actress and wife of David Bowie), character actor Tommy "Tiny" Lister and Magic Johnson ruclips.net/video/LeiFF0gvqcc/видео.html
I thought he had done Thriller! But, he also just said he had never seen it!?! I thought he saw Alien Ant Farm's version of this song!? What's really going on?
If you want to see him do the Moonwalk for the very first time, watch him perform Billie Jean and the 25th Motown Anniversary concert in 1983. None of us had ever see the moonwalk before and everyone watching was amazed!
He left it all on the stage that's for certain and he had a lot to leave. I think I read before that he would lose a significant amount of weight from one live performance. Legendary entertainer
when I was a kid there was a cartoon about the Jackson 5. In fact, there were even packs of Jackson 5 trading cards (like baseball cards) even with gum in the pack.
Dirty Diana PLEASE! Edited to add: the name Annie comes from the nickname for CPR dummies, which is Annie. And it’s part of CPR to first ask the person if they’re okay. 🙂
You definitely have to check out his full remember the time MV. It has 3 super famous celebs in it with an all black cast! You’ll love it, promise! Michael Jackson had the same skin condition Winnie Harlow has - Vitiligo. It occurs when cells that produce melanin stop functioning which causes light patches on the skin. There’s 5 different types of it and like his Autopsy report confirmed: MJ suffered from Vitiligo Universalis which affects your whole Body. Vitiligo tends to come with other auto immune diseases like lupus. What happens when you have lupus is that your own body attacks its own tissues and organs. Since he had a lot of dead tissue around his cheeks and nose area, he had to go through multiple reconstructive surgeries throughout his life to remove the dead scar tissue which made his nose smaller over time. Greetings from Germany, huuuuuge MJ Fan here! p.s: MJ actually invented and patented the shoes he used to do the lean with! Not everyone can do it since it takes a hell lot of strength to pull off that lean!
Now you've gotta do the 'Alien Ant Farm' cover of Smooth Criminal. And Chris Cornells' cover of 'Billie Jean'. The two best MJ covers of ALL TIME. You will dig them both. The AAF one is more of an homage to MJ King of Pop. The Cornell one is different- whilst it's still an homage- Cornell manages to make 'Billie Jean' his own. Slows it way down and reminds us that Billie Jean is actually a really sad and tragic song, and showcases Cornells' voice as an added bonus. Many people- even some hardcore MJ fans- prefer Cornells version of Billie Jean to MJ's- which is clearly saying something. Next to impossible to pull off when covering one of MJ's most iconic songs. But leave it to Chris Cornell to do it- IF anyone ever could. I recommend the version from the Sirius Radio live studio performance. It'll blow you away. Chris changes it into a soulful expression of melancholic storytelling of EPIC proportions. 🤘 RIP MJ & CC 🌬🙏🏼🕊🕊🕯🕯⌛
Check out a version of Billie Jean by Canadian guitarist Calum Graham. He sings & plays a harp guitar. If you're not familiar with a harp guitar that alone should garner your interest.
@@rogerdaly6326 Thanks- will do! I adore the harp guitar. But I also adore the song so my interest was garnered sans the harp guitar aspect of your recommendation. It's just a bonus. 😁🤘
He sang "Annie, are you OK?" He said that he had a skin condition called vitiligo which made his skin bleach out over time. I believe that he can hit those high notes on his own.
You have a beautiful expression in your face and smile. Your excitement and rhythm is smooth too. One thing that makes you my favorite is your deep dive and explanation of the lyrics. You have made me understand the words and music 🎶 thanks ❤..keep doing what you're doing! Michael Jackson is this woman's man of music. Miss the man..no one will ever reach the top like him. Videos are well done and puts a story together well 👏 I too used to dance on the furniture to the floor in my bedroom. .his dance moves..original and crisp 👌
The move where he leans, he is being held in place by some sort of block in the floor that fits into the bottom of his shoes. You can actually see this in a live performance of this song, where one of his background dancers stumbles, because he doesn't manager to get his shoe unlocked from the block supporting him.
I once read that Michael was a fifth degree black belt, and some of his moves come from this. As a former martial arts student, I can see where some of his routines seem to be adaptations of what we called 'forms'. Other styles call them 'katas', and I'm not sure I spelled that right. But anyway, yeah, I can see that much of the time, he seems to be doing martial arts forms to music. Especially when the kicks, and the arm throws are incorporated. So it's like kick, strike, grab, pull, strike.....etc. So of course I don't know if what I read was true, but I definitely see martial arts forms in his routines.
Excellent reaction. I love watching you reacting to these videos. You make my day,,, seriously!!!! Thank you for this. I can honestly say that this is one of my favourite Videos/mini movies. The choreography in this is crazy. I have seen how they did the famous "Lean" was done. Even though it had a prop to help with it, it is still so difficult. In my opinion the back up dancers he performs with are equally as good as Michael , ( now don't beat me up on this) , if not better. Regardless, such a crazy video to watch and enjoy!!!
MJ creates art. I guess one could argue that all artist do, but we all know there are levels and MJ's creativity just can't be matched. That break in the middle where they swich off the music, channeling the whole pressure, the tension, the roughness, heat and the outlawishness of gansterrun, speakeasy, prohibition 1930 Chicago -vibe...pure art. Then again, the music film is a part of Moonwalker, a family friendy action/sci-fi musical, so the drama makes more sense in that framework. Still, without it, the loose threads making one wonder and drawing one in even further, are quite neat too. Michael Jackson had discoid lupus erythematosus, a chronic inflamatory, autoimmune condition where the body attacks it's own skin- and mucosatissues. As far as I know, it >>only>> attacks the tissues of the head (face, ears, scalp, mouth) in different extent from person to person. Some say the disease in itself can trigger vitiligo, others say it's the treatment of lupus that does it. Third sais they are genetically linked and fourth sais they are created by much the same endogenic and exogenic triggers. Truth is we don't really know the exact reasons behind these conditions. It's known that the two sometimes are connected, but doesn't have to be (meaning one can have one without ever having the other). Michael Jackson however, had both and sid in the OW-interview in -93 that it runs in the family. Vitiligo is a chronic, inflamatory autoimmune skin disorder on it's own. Vitiligo destroys the pigmentation cells of the skin, the ones creating the melanin (melanocytes). Vitiligo comes in different subtypes, the most severe, but also most uncommon, one is called vitiligo universalis and affecs the whole body. This is the one MJ had. The lupus with all probability would have made the depigmentation process go faster than usuall. MJs make-up artist Karen Faye has spoken about how in the beginning they tried to even it out with make-up, filling in the depigmented spots. After a while it had taken over so much, they had to start filling out the still pigmented spots to match the depigmented ones. They sort of used make-up to make it look like a more even-pigmented change than it was, the whole body make-up getting lighter and lighter. MJ also got skin therapy creams and drugs that are normally prescribed to anyone having extensive vitiligo. When the melanin leaves the skin, it's left without UV-protection. The lupus also destroys pigmentation and people afflicted by it are told to stay out of the sun. That's why MJ usually wore long-sleeved and -legged clothes outside and stayed out of direct sunlight when possible. I'm sure you've seen pictures of MJ using an umbrella for sunshade? No matter when in life or which skintone, Michael Jackson ALWAYS took pride in being black. The bashings MJ had to take for it, however - both from white people and POC, but of course driven by white media - is body shaming on a scale no other celebrity in modern times has ever had to deal with. Few people, actually, has ever had to deal with.
M.J. Is a musical genious. No one else compares to him. He is unique and that's what makes him the "King of Pop". Just like Elvis is the "King of Rock and Roll", James Brown is the "Godfather of Soul" and Aretha is the "Queen of Soul". Each is unique in their own right and has been the inspiration for those who came after them. M.J. gets many of his iconic moves ( moon walk ) by dancers from the times of Vaudville. Bill Bailey did the first "moonwalk" ( There is old video film of him doing it in a routine). If you watch the video of the old timers doing a tap dance-off from the movie "TAP" (with Gregory Hines) you will see Sammy Davis Jr., The Sandman, Harold Nicholas and others do some of their classic tap steps) M.J. also took moves by Chuck Berry and James Brown to use in his routines. (Elvis was also influenced by Chuck Berry and James Brown and Little Richard.....he threw in some Karate moves too) The exaggerated forward lean is something M.J. Invented ( I think). It involves metal pieces imbeded in the floor and grooves in the heels of the special shoes that attach to the metal. This move also requires a lot of core strength to pull the body up from that almost parallel lean. A lot of exercise and practice is required to do that lean forward. M.J. had a disease called vitaligo that changes the pigmentation in the skin over time to pure white. If you go back and watch his videos you can see that around the time he recorded Billie Jean, the color of his skin was changing, only back then he was using Make up to cover the light patches. You can see that because sometimes his face was darker than his original skin color as it almost looked like he had charcoal on His face. I don't know, but think maybe he then started bleaching his skin as the disease was spreading more quickly. That could be a reason why he started wearing one glove. But then he also became very obsessed with his looks and was doing crazy plastic surgery. At one point M.J. said in an interview that as a child his father kept telling him he was ugly and had a big nose. I know that after his hair caught fire and severely burned his scalp doing a Pepsi commercial, he started wearing wigs because his hair couldn't grow back. ( to learn more about M.J. I recommend that you read his bio on Wikipedia. Hold onto your seat and pay close attention when you do * "THRILLER". It's a mini movie and more pure M.J. genious with one of the most iconic dance scenes ever!!! Can't wait for your reaction!
Excellent breakdown, with one notable omission. A large portion of his more famous early choreography was lifted directly from Bill Fossi's performance of Snake in the Grass from The Little Prince. And yes, you're right, Michael held the patent for the shoes with grooves in the heel to slide onto the metal tabs on the floor for the lean.
I remember I used to play the Michael Jackson video game based off this video in the 7/11 store (when they used to have arcade games). Great video game. Those were the times lol

For me, the reference to "Annie are you ok" comes from the CPR training doll named Resusci Annie. When I trained to be an EMT/Paramedic we used those dolls to learn CPR and when you respond to a down patient you ask them first if they're Ok to gauge consciousness. So when practicing CPR on the doll we approach Annie saying "Annie are you ok". That's what I think the reference is.
Now you should definitely check out the Alien Ant Farm cover of this. The music video is really great too, a HUGE tribute to MJ. Also Michael loved the cover, thought it was the best cover of his songs and gave his ok/approval on the video. When he passed away, at his request, MJs family invited them to come play live at the Michael Forever Tribute Concert.
Some men are gifted with singing in high octaves. Dimash is famous for that as he can sing 6-8 octaves where most singers can only sing 2-3 octaves. In the song Stranger, he sings in almost all of his vocals from a deep bass to almost whistle register and holds the last note in the song for 20 seconds.
I remember watching the video when it came out on MTV, and no one could figure out he did that "move." You know the one! It was only after MJ's passing that some choreographers explained how he did it. But even with the explanation, you have to be a PERFECT dancer (same steps on the same place of the stage - every time) for it to work. Simply amazing. FYI, if you want an exceptional explanation of how he sung so "high," check out Wings of Pegasus's video here: ruclips.net/video/CWP_mSlKK-c/видео.html Surprisingly, his voice wasn't super high, just super "thin." Wings explains it better than I can. Definitely worth a watch since you're already an MJ fan.
The TLDR for those who don't know, there would be a mark on the stage where a rod would extend into a special slot made into MJ's and the dancer's shoes that would keep them from toppling over during the lean...and yeah, you would have to be right on the spot with perfect timing or A) the rod won't catch it you're too far off or B)you mis-time it, the audience sees the rod and gives away the trick...
This video is a part of his movie, Moonwalker. If you can find it, it’s worth a watch. Joe Pesci is in it too. Try to find the full version with the music videos at the beginning. It starts with Man in the Mirror.
My first two concerts were Metallica during their Master tour where I got to see Cliff followed by MJ think it was his Bad tour. Both GOAtTs of their genres and both some of the best live!
10:25 The idea in this part is that after Michael's music stops people start screaming painfuly is like that Michael's music what make them alive 11:02 you can hear here that people started to sing the lyrics to beg him to continue
Mj had both discoid lupus and vitiligo, both are auto immune disorders where your body attacks itself. In mj's case the vitiligo caused him to have a depigmented white spot or splotches throughout his body that gradually spread and got bigger over time. Both lupus and vitiligo are largely responsible for his changing look
I used to have a DVD of Michael Jackson videos including this one. Lost to moving a lot I can only assume. But the version of the video on that one was more extensive than this. It showed him running from the army and some Dobermans, and I remember something about a giant robot. I have never been able to find that version of this video. 😢
This video was the first level in the Moonwalker game on Genesis. Your special move was you could make all the enemies on the screen do the dance, and when they did the lean move they all fall over and die.
Michael was influenced by so many greats such as James Brown, Jackie Wilson, The Nicholas Brothers, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly, and he melded all of those influences into something that became uniquely his to the point that we can genuinely call him The Blueprint.
There will never be another like Michael. His talent is beyond compare.

Michael Jackson was just the bomb.
no one will ever come close to michael❤
MJ's look in this video with the fedora and the black armband is totally iconic.
Hahaha this cracked me up😂
@@shon1303Shon...you HAVE TO CHECK OUT this cover of *"Smooth Criminal"* by Alien Ant Farm!!! They give tribute and show love in every single way you can think of to MJ!!

Dirty Diana gets me every time!!! MJ was a bizarre guy but UNDOUBTEDLY The King of Pop!!
How was he bizarre? You could never live the life he had.
What do you mean by bizarre? As if you are also a perfect human being
And you can do no wrong, right?? The perfect specimen 😂
His music videos are all short film quality. He always brought his best.
I love watching you react to these videos! You can tell that you seriously love all kind of music. Keep ‘em coming!
Elvis was the King of Rock, but Michael Jackson was the King of Pop! RIP both of them.
Something that will really blow your mind, what you normally hear as MJ's voice is actually just an act, his real voice is much deeper.
Greatest artist of all time 🔥
Your expressions and laugh are priceless!!
Yes....could watch Shons reactions all day! (Doesn't hurt he's got personality and rhythm) 😂
Love this song!!!
Oh believe me, during that era, IN HIS PRIME, a lot of people were calling him the GOAT as an entertainer, including his amazing dance skills. It's only THIS GENERATION that doesn't fully appreciate his greatness.
That part
You've done Smooth Criminal and Thriller so I'm going to suggest another couple of my favorites:

For a time, although Elvis had passed on, Michael was his son-in-law
If you want to see him do the Moonwalk for the very first time, watch him perform Billie Jean and the 25th Motown Anniversary concert in 1983. None of us had ever see the moonwalk before and everyone watching was amazed!
Nephew 💙 your reaction to the music of my (younger self), brings a smile to my face, and warms my heart. Chef's kiss 💋 🖤🖤🖤🤎🤎🤎
❤️👍🏻awesome reaction, and definitely agree 👍🏻 one of my favorites by Michael Jackson 😄 very good.
Now you need to listen to Alien Ant Farm doing their version of this tune! MJ loved it.
HELL YEAH! I just posted a Link for Shon!

He left it all on the stage that's for certain and he had a lot to leave.

Edited to add: the name Annie comes from the nickname for CPR dummies, which is Annie. And it’s part of CPR to first ask the person if they’re okay. 🙂
❤ MJ 🐐
MJ is always a good time❤
Check out the Alien Ant Farm version if you get the chance. It's a great cover.
One of my favourite MJ Songs and Videos.
Great reaction Shon.
👍
RIP MJ & CC

Check out a version of Billie Jean by Canadian guitarist Calum Graham. He sings & plays a harp guitar. If you're not familiar with a harp guitar that alone should garner your interest.

Thanks- will do! I adore the harp guitar. But I also adore the song so my interest was garnered sans the harp guitar aspect of your recommendation. It's just a bonus. 😁🤘
Ooooh Shon!? You really should watch "Thriller". You will love it. ❤
I seen thriller, such a fun video!! It’s on my channel but I recorded this a while back that’s why I said that
He sang "Annie, are you OK?"
He said that he had a skin condition called vitiligo which made his skin bleach out over time.
I believe that he can hit those high notes on his own.
Michael was of magical being and I miss him every day.
It was also the birth of the original "hold my beer" when the little kid starts to dance.
That instrument you said “ooooh what it that?” Is a trumpet.
The move where he leans, he is being held in place by some sort of block in the floor that fits into the bottom of his shoes. You can actually see this in a live performance of this song, where one of his background dancers stumbles, because he doesn't manager to get his shoe unlocked from the block supporting him.
Best video of all time. No one can compete not even close💯
Michael sin duda...número uno👏👏
Did anyone else notice that after the "lean," during the dance sequence, Michael did the first ever DAB!!!
Loved your reaction. Made me smile watching you.
Wish you could have been there, nothing like it! I was there from the start in the 80's but was already familiar and singing the Jackson 5 songs!
He was making these long form videos after the success of Thriller. Like mini movies. Just one of a kind.
Great reaction! Mike hits me right in feels too. LOL
(Elvis was also influenced by Chuck Berry and James Brown and Little Richard.....he threw in some Karate moves too)
The exaggerated forward lean is something M.J.
Yes! He’s on another level. Smooth is so accurate! He’s a walking, living and breathing brand….before there was such a thing.

Hands down the most talented, creative, brilliant criminal pervert I have ever seen.

Moonwalker movie. 😉
