The story about Paul Newman that always stuck with me was when he was making some movie with a young starlet who had to bare her breasts. She was Very nervous and had a hard time doing the scene, was hesitant about doing it. But when she finally did, she came into the scene where she's looking at Paul and his eyes locked with hers and Never wavered. He kept her gaze and never looked down. That spoke a ton about integrity and making choices. He chose not to. That says a lot about his character. Always loved him just for that moment.

Mr Neuman was filming Me and Mrs Bridges back in my hometown; Kansas City in 1987. I watched them film the outdoor scenes but didn't see the Neumans so I went on home about 3 miles away. On my way to my car I saw a dog chained to a shade tree and so I sat under the tree with the dog petting him. A man was standing smiling as I pet the dog. So he sat with us. I looked at the man eye to eye and said " Sir is this your dog? And if so do you mind I pet him?" I gasped at his smile and those blue eyes alone under a shade tree when he said " that's ok if you pet him and it was Paul Neuman!" I became nervous and said " yes you both look so much alike: your dog looks like you". He said " what is that suppose to mean??!!". I saw where my dumb comment pissed him off and I said " No No your not a dog sir!!". I cried all the way home and my husband giggled " heck ya he was mad your the only one who ever called him a dog!!" 😢😢

I knew they started their relationship with Paul still married. I was training at Cedar Sinai mental health center when Scott Neuman was there for treatment. His parents tried everything to help him... It was a big shock when he killed himself. But it was known Scott had huge problems 😢

No one gets through life without making mistakes. We just make different ones. Mine was trusting the wrong people and being gullible. Paul Newman had the looks on his side which would get him forgiven more. I'm not saying that's right. It's just the way it works in the real world. I always felt he in general a very honest man. One who tried very hard to do what is right, but that wasn't always the case. Many demons followed him; the affair he had with Joanne Woodward, his lack of a close relationship with his older kids, the death of oldest son, and problems brought on by his drinking. I enjoyed him as an actor, but his interviews and his projects that he was involved showed a pretty good smart humanitarian in my book. We need more people like him in our world.

Joanne Woodward has not passed. She lives in her and Mr. Newman's house in CT.
She was diagnose with Alzheimer's a year before he died, in 2007 when she was 77. She is still alive despite having Alzheimer's for 16 years! 😢
My heart goes out to Joanne and children. My mother had Alzheimer's and it nearly broke my heart every minute of every day. While she forgot so many family and friends she always knew who I was for which I was so grateful. I cannot imagine 17 years..
For Mom and I it was 7yrs. And I thought my heart would break every minute. Mom died in her sleep which was exactly what she wanted desperately..she made me promise and I did and then I prayed I could keep it. There is a God and she is at peace. Blessings to Joanne and her family.

While we generally should not speak ill of the dead, pN is still a very public figure. Social media documentary vids (even short ones) shape society and values. To critique him and to challenge characterizations made about him (which defy biblical values in SOME cases - leaving his wife vs his impressive charity work) is fair and appropriate, But need to be careful not to be “uncharitable” in doing so.

When asked if she had any regrets, Joanne Woodward famously told Dick Cavett that she regretted having her children. Apparently that troubled mother relationship, she passed along to her 3 daughters.

When you marry, at least in the Church, you make a vow before God to love and honor the other person until death do you part. You may not have any choice but to let him go if he is determined, but you at least need to remind him that destroying your family is a mortal sin and his eternal life is at stake. That is where real compassion lies, because our responsibility as husband or wife, is to help the other get to heaven.

Paul Newman died in 2008 and Joanne Woodward has had alzeimers following his death. Why is necessary to discuss the affair which led to their decades long, amazing marriage? Many people get married young and pick a person that isn't a good fit. I've heard that the first time a person marries people exactly opposite their parents, the 2nd to some one just like their parents and the 3rd time they pick the right person that is right for them. The 2 of them did so much to help others.

I have always like Paul Newman. He was a fine actor, and yes it isn't difficult to see what the ladies saw in him. He was also a great humanitarian. However, I can understand his guilt over leaving his wife for Joanne Woodward. Paul Newman was a decent human being and it clearly sat on his conscious throughout his marriage to Joanne, because the fact is you don't take your happiness at someone else's expense. Paul clearly knew that.
