"Beethoven's vast output, and it's all great". So true Robert, and this is how you help thousands of people to find it... Thank you, and very best regards from the Island of Skye.
Love your playing -- not to mention the ingenious educational manner you use to teach us about music, pianos, and what to watch for and listen for in purchasing. you are a gem among the gifted. I wish I were in a position to patronize your business . . . perhaps down the road, but until then -- Thank You Very Much!
To hear Robert play the Clementi sonatinas really piqued my curiousity, since I'll be learning the third movement for my next exam. I've warmed up to the idea of possibly acquiring a Young Chang instrument some day.
I think Steinway's variation in tone has more to do with how they finish/prep them (in the NY factory) vs. them being hand-built. Other hand-builts are more consistent in tone. But I agree overall that every piano, in whatever price bracket or tier, will differ from one piano to the next for the reasons you gave. Overall, there are different quality levels of production pianos. When you get to Kawai's GX (or older RX) series or Yamaha's CX (or older C) series or the better Hailun's, there is still a lot of handwork in the prep and voicing and regulation of them. There is still hand-buffing with some of them. The production work is the cutting of some of the woodwork and it's very precise. Pianos aren't necessarily compromised in performance, tone, longevity because they aren't hand-built. Some production pianos are very fine pianos and may match or even exceed the quality of some handbuilt pianos. Companies like Yamaha and Kawai hand build their best pianos, but the amount of their hand-builts are far less than their bread and butter production pianos. Still, there is a high standard to their production pianos that make them the standards for production pianos.
I had a Youg Chang. it was magical. my mistake : to have sold it for a 1m74 (1989) Schimmel... an error. The Young Chang was better.... better.... Young Chang have the "Steinway" bell sound... underrated Pianos
Amazingly clear and full sound! My ears tend to favour Young Chang pianos, especially the concert grand you featured some time ago. I would love to have one of these pianos in my home one day.
Was curious to hear. Perhaps not quite as awful as I thought it would be but I believe that is because of Robert's great technique - he can make even a Young "Clang" sound decent.
Yamaha. Yamaha makes a much bigger range of instruments, from budget to the very high-quality hand-built series like the CF grands or the SU uprights. Many consider Yamaha's U-series upright to be the standard which others are judged. They have built a reputation to have solid build quality for a midrange piano. Kawai also has a reputation for very high-quality budget/mid-range (K) to very high-quality hand-built pianos (Shigeru). Kawai and Yamaha are often recommended by piano techs for students to buy. However, there are used American/European alternatives as well as viable alternatives from Korea and China. Young Chang often cost less for similarly sized pianos.

Actually i'm sick of that sonatina, Clementi composed so many more wonderful pieces for piano and yet, everyone plays this sonatinas. I particularly like the op 39 no 2 (no recordings on youtube, just a midi and a student struggling) and I love Clementi's capriccios.

I don’t know if you’ve realized but the way you introduce “Asian Piano” is very racist (expressed in many videos). You obviously have a bias that Asian piano are by design not good sound pianos, so you compliment this piano by saying how it’s different compare to other Asian pianos. It’s not a matter of Asian piano, it’s a matter of cheap piano! By the way, hand made always being better than industrialized factory piano production is a bias as well.
Is it only to my ear that this piano has the finest clarity? Love the tone and clear sound. Plus, the low keys have a drum like effect.
I so appreciate your videos. You breathe air on the old childhood embers of playing piano.
I have to agree with Robert: it is a nice sounding instrument. I loved the music selections today as well. Thank you, Robert!
Mr.Estrin, I just find this so so beautiful! Thank you so much.

Sounds like a mix between Bösendorfer and Yamaha C7 if they had babies!

I have a G-157 baby grand and I love it. Clear and Crisp tone in upper register, thunderous base, and just a great tone overall
Was definitely made to play Haydn.. sound fantastic!!
Love all your videos.
I have this piano!

The Young Chang sound
Korea forever
A bit of ersatz reverb added, Robert.
Very nice. Thanks.
what do you think is the best piano、young chang or yamaha?

I know what you mean. Sometimes there are too many of Classical's "greatest hits" and they are overplayed. I agree with you.
don't forget the action brackets in these which can cause $$$$$$$$ of damage to the action. Big issue with this era Young Chang.
