    I feel like tortles should be one of the longer lived races. 50 years seems crazy short for a race based off of one of the longest lived animal species

      I completely agree with you that on that point.

      I know I'm a year removed from conversation, but 50 is not a maximum. Its an average. An average of 50 years. and a bell curve like that could be heavily skewed! There could be plenty of turtles that live to be old AF, but everyone under the sun misreads one key sentence.

    • @MrBracey100
      @MrBracey100 3 года назад +1

      Agreed. I always thought that was a weird choice, for dragonborn as well.

      My group homebrews their age to be as long as 500. 50 is just too short for a turtle race.

      @@GreenPaintz If every Tortle dies naturally at 50, then the average natural lifespan is still 50.

    I’m playing as one, it’s a knight, me and my buddies had to escape goblins, and a dead horse in the road so I used my war hammer like golf clubs and sent it flying, lol

    Personally a huge fan of the Tortle Spores Druid. The phrase Tank takes on a whole new meaning with this up-armored tank-caster

      There is a small degree of jank involved, mostly in Druid having a weaker spell list than many of their full caster contemporaries, but Shilelagh + Symbiote Form + Hex (IMO, totally worth the feat) is 2d6+1d8+Wis at max, while having Druid Level + Wis temp HP and 17-19 base AC. It's kinda weird to get used to, but once this shelled wonder gets rolling, he's hard to stop

      I'm running a Tortle Spores Druid right now. He's lvl 2, so still gets smacked around, but sooo much fun! I'll be picking up War Domain Cleric next level, then it's all Spore Druid from there.

    Love the sword n board Ranger. That's actually a favorite concept for me. I can see the tactical advantage of sticking to ranged attacks. But the ability to get up front and thug it out is important --you can't always run away to maintain range. The high AC of the Tortle makes the build easy.

    • @RollingWithAdvantage
      @RollingWithAdvantage  5 лет назад +1

      If I were to play a ranger it would be sword and board for sure.

    I made a true tortle druid. He's an absolute beefcake. I gave him the cantrip transform water and the spell create water. He can thus cover most of the area in front of him with a wall of piranhas as when you summon a piranha they are summoned as a swarm. This is incredibly good in combat. You can use the same cantrip transform water to move said wall forward. You also have the option to make it static by freezing it. It also helps that with the beef cake a.c. that the tortle has he's well protected if he does get caught up in close battle along with the plus two strength. It really makes for an amazing druid class.

    I'm working on Tortal twins (not identical) 1 is a Blighted Druid 2 Fighter 1 With Blind fighting (perfect for when you cast fog) and Aberrant Mind Sorcerer 1 and Death Cleric 1. Both to help kick up the necrotic aspect. The other one is a Spores Druid 2 Beast Barbarian 3. Funny thing I rolled an 18 and two 17's. So the 17's each went to wisdom and constitution. The 18 went to strength. I went with Beast Barbarian because one of the options you can use is you get a tail with a 10ft reach and does 1D8 piercing damage. Or you can use it to get a +1d8 to your AC against melee attacks. They are also going to be immune to each other's necrotic damage only. Like Havoc and Cyclops from the X-Men

    Just getting into D&D, decided on a Tortle while playing around on Hero Forge. Gonna go with a Barbarian I think, haven't decided between Berserker or Totum. I love the God of War games, so I chose to give my character blades of chaos type weapons. Still working on it...

    YES. it feels like this race was *made* for STR ranger. I would love to go horizon walker. If my DM would allow it i would go "Oversized Longbow" which is a 2d6 STR bow.

    My tortle is a Drunken Master monk/ Oath of Ancients Paladin, so kinda a drunken Iron Fist. I picked ancients because he worships Dionysus so it seemed fitting. Also as a former sailer I took the Mariner Fighting Style to get a +1 to AC. I might have to add some ranger in there after seeing this.

      And if you choose defense for your fighting style, you’d have an AC 20 at level 1.
      Edit: Scratch that, defense doesn’t work with Tortles. They’re not wearing armor

    Currently using a Samurai Tortle GW style, glaive, katana and bow. Went both dex and str because my last character was a bard and I just wanna cut things up in this campaign. Problem is we started level 3 and other PCs already have higher arm class than me.

    The other advantage of Natural Armour is that you don't have the minimum STR requirement of Heavy Armor or the (common) disadvantage to Stealth...Now, with Customizing Your Origin from TCoE, I'm expecting a surge of Tortle arcane casters and rogues.

    This isn't a critisim, but I find it interesting how our human centric (humanoid centric?) PoV frames Tortles as maturing quickly. The fact of the matter is that humans (and apparently our fantasy counterparts) mature very slowly when compared to other RL species.

    I wanted to be a stalwart wall of impenetrable defense and the tortle sound like something that can do that... accept they made the archetype a wanderer and no constitution bonus! I would think tortle would be a great tank but unarmored defense and armor defense don’t help his AC so now there is no good race...
