If I could play the piano (which I can't at all), if I were rich (which I definitely am not), if I had a house (which I don't, I have a small flat) I definitely would have bought a Bosendorfer :-)
Oh I would love to be able to afford a Bösendorfer when I grow up hahaha. Seeing the making-of, it doesn't surprise me it comes at a price. Wow that's a difficult assembly
Coming myself from a family of professional musicians, my greatest turn-offs always were when somebody "grown-up" came into the room where I played, showing me "how it is done". As an artist she is supposed to express herself in her own way and not just try to outdo somebody before her. I think she is simply fantastic!
I agree with you. Lisitsa gives such a musically beautiful performance here--there is no need to try to prove a point of having a more virtuoso technique than anyone else. At this level of playing, all of these concert pianists have more than adequate technique to play anything--it's the beauty of expression that counts most. I love her performance here.
Absolutely well said and its very very true!!!! you just captured the words that wanted to say...she is just fabulous and MsChaya Susanne Golan...you have amazed me with your framkest and boldest depiction of thoughts...some time I would like you to listen to my music too and would to hear your comments, because people like you who are frank , when you say some thing, it really has a meaning and it really brings happiness to our mind....Thank you....
I agree with both of you, Nicosiadon and Chaya Susanne Golan, on all your comments. Valentina Lisitsa is a consummate musician, a virtuoso pianist of the highest calibre. There is no need for criticisms -- just enjoy what she has offered.
I can't sleep at night because my dream is about to come true: on the 28.th of october, I am going to Vienna, to pick out my very own Bösendofer at the factory. I've been in love with Bösendorfer for 20 years now...ever since I as a student worked in the Concert Hall in Aarhus, Denmark: I distinctly remember the first time I touched "her" :) And I have never forgotten my "first" love :)
I met my first Bosendorfer about 20 years ago. I had to make a two hour drive to a piano teacher’s studio; well worth it (understatement). As expected the action and sound were orgasmic, but I was stunned by the physical beauty of the instrument.
This is the best version of la campanella for me. I listened to many pianists playing it, and most are a bit "over the top" or not accurat enough. This one is just perfect.
***** it is true, she plays on an excellent piano, and that makes it sound even better, but the quality of the piano is not what makes it the best for me. It has no impact on the interpretation. I wouldn't play any better on a Bösendorfer than on a "normal" piano
***** sure, but I hope you get what I mean. A good piano doesn't make a good pianist, and the things I like about this version of la campanella are not depending on the quality of the piano. Would be a shame though, if she played this on a cheap old piano ^^
I like valentina, but its obvius to me that you wavent watch and heard kissin's execution. Do it, its all over youtube, its way and beyond valentina will ever play, like it or not.
That is the result of two absolutly perfect things in harmony...a human wrote the piece,a human built this instrument and a human can bring all together to make 4 minutes of such an incredible heart-touching moment. HUMANKIND RULES!!! :-D
As a Performance Tech, the finest I work on. I prep them right out of the crate. The Precision is well defined and it’s an enjoyable day’s work. Hello from Texas, USA
Years ago I had the opportunity to play a Boesendorfer for some minutes. This was really a difference. I am not expert, but the whole feeling and sound is clearly different. BORN is just the right word. I also enjoyed hearing this tune, great played!
Bösendorfer, Valentina e Liszt ! Uma combinação encantadora de arte e técnica na fabricação do piano, virtuosismo na execução, e a obra de um notável compositor. BRAVO!
Bravo! I don't know which is more beautiful - hearing Ms. Lisitsa play so enchantingly… or watching the process of seeing how a wonderful Bösendorfer Piano is constructed. This is the kind of video that appeals to both sides of the brain at once. It is a very refreshing feeling - like standing in a waterfall of pure delight!!!!!!!!!! (To quote Teddy (& J. D. Salinger), "Life ain't nothing but a gift horse.") ~~;{@
A much more measured and mature performance than the Seoul concert from 2008, and that was my previous favourite recording of La Campanella. This is simply perfect now. Bravo, Valentina! :)
Fantastic video. My Boesendorfer was delivered two days ago. I am in complete awe of the incredible richness of sound! Having been (musically) brought up on Steinway, I doubt I would ever have considered it (it DID create some hassle in the family but I got my way!) prior to listening to Miss Lisitsa in her previous video elaborating on Boesendorfer___ her assessment of the instrument is so eloquent and spot on. Many, many thanks to her with the very best wishes for her career!
Very creative production, I just love it:) The Bösendorfer is a true personality, not just a grand piano … While when I am saying this, it may be readily overlooked, but please consider that Paul Badura Skoda, the famous Austrian pianist, said the same. You can easily find his testimonial here on RUclips. Great performance, thank you, Valentina!
Just as a piano is built for lifetime, it also makes itself a pianist. Dedication, work, virtuosity, talent ... There's a lot to go Valentina, go ahead!
When I used to frame houses, during the summer to earn money for college, we had a saying about not having to be perfect with every measurement. We weren't building a piano!
Valentina...you steal my heart with every piece you play.....AND...I SURVIVED THE CANCER because of you!!! I commented many times how your gift got me through some of the most painful, hopeless and difficult times. I wasn’t supposed to live, but even at my weakest, when I had one foot in heavens door, I listened to you play this very piece, and something remarkable happened. My breathing slowed, my vitals, that were nearly non-existent for weeks, came back to full vigour, and something Devine happened......I just felt that I couldn’t leave this world behind when there’s so much beauty for me to see and experience, and all because of your beautiful talents on the piano. I’ll NEVER forget that day, when I literally came back from the brink of death...as o grew stronger and stronger, I had every video, and CD, you’ve ever recorded, playing in my hospital room 24/7. I can’t explain it, and neither could the doctors. I was told that I was going to die, for certain, as the cancer spread from my intestines to my lungs, brain, liver and pancreas...every oncologist refused to believe it was your music that saved me, as they come up with these lame excuses that they’ve literally made up, because as one put it “you should be dead, many times over, listening to music CANT CURE YOU!!!...but I showed them all. Within a week, I left the palliative care unit against their orders , ate healthy, exercised, all while allowing every digitally encoded bit you’ve recorded, to penetrate my very sole, and remind me of all that’s good and beautiful in the world to live for, and within 6 months, every single tumour was gone, vanished without a trace! I was accused of lying to make money (which is insane given I never told a sole about my diagnosis), despite the fact that they had all my imagining that showed the massive tumours I once had. They tell me I’m a walking miracle, I tell them no, I’m just lucky enough to have discovered your indescribably beautiful playing, that gave me hope, and a reason to fight, when I had none. This is all 100% true...as far as I’m concerned, you, with the help of Bach, Mozart, Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Liszt, and my favourite, Chopin, along with the other great masters, saved my life, mane gave me a reason to live...I’ve ALWASY wanted to learn how to play, but I’ve always been too sick (I’ve been fight this since I was 20, I’m now 50!). However.....though I may never become a great pianist at my age (is it too late to become a concert pianist, starting out at 50, when most great are mere children under 10?), because of your inspiration, I’m going to try, and never stop until death finally takes me for good, so sweetheart....THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE!!!! as a gay man I can say this...I adore you as a person and as an artist, I just pray that one day, I’ll have the privilege of meeting you face to face...I want to hug you so badly!!! Sending my sincere gratitude and love from Toronto...Eric ❤️❤️❤️❤️
The craftsmanship and incredible precision in both the Bosendorfer pianos and Valentina's playing was remarkable to watch. Thanks so much for sharing this!
Thanks for letting us visit this amazing factory from afar and with your brilliant accompaniment. I enjoy all your RUclips videos particularly when you explain or discuss the music. A heart felt thanks for what you do with your talent. It is incomparable!
Also check out Oxana Mikhialov(Sp?) if you can find her. A very accomplished pianist acquaintance of mine heard her live at Weill Hall Carnegie Hall and said after a lifetime of trying this was the first time she "understood Chopin".
Making instrument is an art itself! Hats off to people who make so brilliant instruments 👏🏻👏🏻😊. Also, what a pianist! You played with a full spirit and that’s why it sounded so outstanding! Thank you!🤩🤩
The art of playing this instrument, the art of making the instrument, the art of filming the process....and God, the artist who made them all. Very passionate beings
...well it was a pretty easy launch of a piano I must say [ and I can know it,......] the head just fitted perfectly to the door. And the sounds afterwards she made is beautiful ,thank you for the share of this "New World wonder".....
There are so many great sounding grand piano... Seingraeber, Förster, even KAWAI Shigeru - but even budget versions like BOSTON - ... much others... my dream is to hear the top lines of the most recognized piano builder on a great location during a day show - played by most recognized piano players in the concert hall KKL in Luzern/Switzerland: "Playing the titans" as working title... But how to find great professional piano players for other brands like Steinway... most of pianist seems to be contracted by Steinway... loved to organize something like that....
Sounds good to me. Hard to find a Steingraeber, Förster, Grotrian, Sauter, etc. piano. Even a Shigeru Kawai is hard to find. It's easy to find a Yamaha C7, but not a much superior Yamaha CFX. Make it a world tour. It would be great to hear pianos other than Steinway and Sons. Nothing wrong with Steinway, but others are great too.
Oh Valentina what a super idea to show the making of this superb piano !.. I loved it, I have watched other video on piano making like Steinways, but this video with your playing is very well done, Thank you so much !....
Wow, she made a tribute for Bösendorfer by playing La Campanella and showing a lot of cutscenes on how a Bösendorfer piano is made. Great playing...AND video editing skills.!!
Wow! That would be fantastic! She would really love that. I remember taking my oldest daughter backstage after when Pittsburgh Symphony and Sarah Chang performed. She was ecstatic. Lauren will love it. Thank you!
And her name is Lisitsa Bósendorfer. You play it so well ,eny song you play make,s me feel great. And when you play Moonlight sonata, I feel the other side were love is unconditional. Thank you for your love. Speak itt some more because we're all listening.
The brand Bösendorfer is so lucky to have such a great and charming artist-presenter like you, Valentina! The best pianos in the world and the best woman-pianist together...
That would be amazing, also note that the extra keys are there to provide harmonic resonance, Valentina has made great use of that on some of her videos. Once again we have to be so grateful how generous she is!
Listening to this beautiful performance and the exquisite sound of brand new Imperial, I really feel this piano has something substantive which other pianos do not have. Only the elaborate handwork by the genuine craftsmen can create that substance in this incomparable instrument.
I like the way you take the time to write descriiptions to your videos. There is always something new to learn. The music helps to inspire the spirit to learn moe. Thanks for sharing.
It's so awe inspiring to see the Love, Beauty, Craftmanship and sublime Perfection that these Artisans put into making this wonderfully complex instrument. And to think that the human body is many billions of times more complex. Leaves me in even greater awe of our our own CREATOR...
I remember my time down there. Whenever i visit the town i always come visit AKG and Bösendorfer(the factory and the showroom/warehouse). I so much respect for their investment in the materials they use to make those grands. Like the factory in itself is quite plain as you can see in the video. Except for the blue white Bösendorfer sign there isn't alot of colour there. But once you see and get to touch the materials!! There is a reason why they make such high quality. Often when one visits Wien one can get swallowed up in all that culture, music, architecture and grandeur. Like Wien is waltz music and torte, but at times it can be educating and rewarding in another way to take a trip and see what the city is build upon! The Jazz scene in the city isn't bad either. It's not all just classical music.
Valentina, thank you for what you are doing for the name of Bosendorfer. You are demonstrating the magnificent quality of these pianos and the extraordinary sound and tonal qualities they produce, especially when played by you!
I played an bosendofer 290 imperial and I felt like I was in heaven! The keys are so buttery smooth I could play really fast and "p" at the same time and the dynamic range was out of this world but I asked for the price and he said it costs 150,000 CAD dollars USED and claims it costs 250,000 new guess I've got to word for another 1-2 decades for the dream piano lol (currently own an Steinway model B which is still good but the 290 imperial is in a whole diffrent class lol)
When the finished i ran straight to my piano and ...I sat down again to watch the video. But it's wonderful the sensation after watching you playing i feel like I CAN PLAY IT TOO... well its motivation i guess.. you motivating people to play piano.
love your precious gift Valentina Lisitsa i definitely would like to meet you for Christmas present, the.piano would not matter you are so talented you.make a.broken down piano on the.street or the.fanciest bosendorfer sing in the most glorious way. you have such a precious gift. so grateful
Nenjen krásná hudba a moje milá Valentinka, které prstíky po klaviatuře létají jako motýlí křídla , ale zajímavá výroba celého klavíru- to se opravdu hned tak někde nevidí.Díky !
I am the biggest PIG because - @ 72 - there is no way...... BUT if I was going out w/ this lady AND we just happened to find this piano, she was to sit, & then show how to really do this piano right - well I would die a happy man w/ a smile on my face!!!!
The sawdust to snow clip was very beautiful with the overlay of La campanella. Although it is about a bell, I do feel connections to Winter whenever I heard the piece performed.
Having tuned and played many different pianos in my career most of the Julliard Graduates I worked with were quite happy with very good Steinway, Baldwin and Yamaha concerts we had at our disposal. Our finest was a 9' Steinway. I tried all these pianos and personally I was happy with the Baldwin 6' - I was by no means a concert pianist. I believe the general consensus was the big one was preffered. In the right hands, tuning, maintenance and general disposition of the performers and audiences was that these were all very fine. We never had a Bosendorfer so I couldn't say from personal experience working in a 4-year college music department for about 16 years, a job that took me to Lincoln Center to do audio recording of pianists on several occasions. Even the finest instruments produce subjective levels of "perfection". JMHO
the precision takes place at stage 1, then the touch of a finger, the vibration met of hammer upon wire. truly magical, such evolution. thanks. x < and very beautiful too.
What an honor to be able to work in a place like that!!!!!!! So at the end of the day I could sit down and play!!!! I’ve had the honor of playing an imperial....9 footer!
If I could play the piano (which I can't at all), if I were rich (which I definitely am not), if I had a house (which I don't, I have a small flat) I definitely would have bought a Bosendorfer :-)
+Zoltán Bartha Certainly not ! Bosendorfer is the king of all pianos !
+Zoltán Bartha Noob, Bos and Faziol are better, more expensive and better made.
Oh I would love to be able to afford a Bösendorfer when I grow up hahaha. Seeing the making-of, it doesn't surprise me it comes at a price. Wow that's a difficult assembly
At least you know what you want,we don't always get what we want but if you try, sometimes you get what you need (Rolling Stones)...
everyone just forgets about Bluthner
Coming myself from a family of professional musicians, my greatest turn-offs always were when somebody "grown-up" came into the room where I played, showing me "how it is done".

:)
Sure. But a decent technique and proper excercise and learning is neccesary before the artist can truly express what he/she feels.

This is so cute :))
dansker!
My grand father purchased one for my mom when she was a teenager. Its the best by fare. congratulations
I met my first Bosendorfer about 20 years ago. I had to make a two hour drive to a piano teacher’s studio; well worth it (understatement). As expected the action and sound were orgasmic, but I was stunned by the physical beauty of the instrument.
Took my breath away...every note was so bright and distinguishable....
This is the best version of la campanella for me. I listened to many pianists playing it, and most are a bit "over the top" or not accurat enough. This one is just perfect.

@@Casual_spectator yeah and subjectivity is a concept well beyond what you will ever understand I guess?

HUMANKIND RULES!!! :-D
Eidetic German Couldn't agree more. well said!
Yeah, that's not those filthy squirrels who would've done that !
Beautiful comment
I like your comment very much! Because it's true!
[Ger] Seb Knight that’s 3 things? lol
As a Performance Tech, the finest I work on. I prep them right out of the crate. The Precision is well defined and it’s an enjoyable day’s work.
Hello from Texas, USA
Hello, I'm Korean people.
I love this song.
Thank you for playing this song.
I'm your fan, Valentina
Remarkable playing on a superb instrument. There is a balance of warmth and clarity, an elegance to the sound of a Bösendorfer that is unmatched.
the most impressive moment is at 3:49 where she suddently disconnects her soul from the interpretation to say: Hello camera man!
Playing piano is art, and piano itself is also art
Valentina I really like your performance of the Paganini bell. My compliments!!!
Years ago I had the opportunity to play a Boesendorfer for some minutes. This was really a difference. I am not expert, but the whole feeling and sound is clearly different. BORN is just the right word. I also enjoyed hearing this tune, great played!
I must to belive to Valentina about the piano Bosendorfer that it's one of best piano.

How eager everything was to be all together and under Valentina's wonderful fingers and great heart!
Bravissima!
PERFECTION for a piano and PERFECTION as a pianist.
I love You
You are the best

Thanks for playing

A much more measured and mature performance than the Seoul concert from 2008, and that was my previous favourite recording of La Campanella. This is simply perfect now. Bravo, Valentina! :)

EVERYTHING in this video is so stunningly beautiful
goddess of the piano!
Crystal clear and traditional sound, bass, and no weak register. Sometimes I listen more to the Bösendorfer than the piece.
Good god she and the piano sound incredible.
Have you listened to her Liszt: Totentaz? Incredible!
Sonya Toole it's insane!!! I love it so much tho!

The Bösendorfer Imperial is an amazingly powerful instrument, and here it is played by a powerful musician :)

Fantastic!!!
I want a piano with Steinway's high Bosendorfer's bass and Bechstein's sweetness.
Oh so beautiful. OH SO BEAUTIFUL!
This really is a great sounding piano. And with her playing is magic.
She is just incredible! In my opinion, she plays the second best La Campanella behind Kissin.

That would be amazing, also note that the extra keys are there to provide harmonic resonance, Valentina has made great use of that on some of her videos. Once again we have to be so grateful how generous she is!
Oh my mother of pianos!! She is soooo good... I wish I could play as good as her...🎵🎹🎼🎶😍😘
wish granted! all you gotta do is playing the piano for about 10 hours every day for maybe the rest of your lifetime ;-)
I am enjoying my $8 keyboard with Piano sounds from Goodwill. It's the best Piano, ever.
Perfection 👏👏👏🎼🎹🎶
It's so awe inspiring to see the Love, Beauty, Craftmanship and sublime Perfection that these Artisans put into making this wonderfully complex instrument. And to think that the human body is many billions of times more complex. Leaves me in even greater awe of our our own CREATOR...
wonderful movie, I wish that here in Brazil we had this tradition, and that magnificent execution congratulations Valentina Lisitsa...
Ho visto anch'io come si costruisce un pianoforte: MERAVIGLIA DELLE MERAVIGLIE !!!!!!!!!
Great playing! Incredible!!
Such a delight to watch Val!
Perfect montage to go with your playing too :)
Just coming home from Salle Pleyel... we had la Campanella for an encore. So wonderful ! Bravo Valentina :)
Valentina, vi velikaya pionistka! Bravo, bravo, bravo!!! Ideya video prosto fantasticheskaya!!! Nadeus' yvidet' vas v Rossii!!!
Sei fantastica Valentina. Grazie della tua musica!
Great Video! I would love to go to Vienna and visit the factory and the showroom. Soon I want to buy a new piano... and you're making my mind! ;)
Awesome video!! Thank you for posting this Val!
音割れが残念…でもピアノの作られていく過程がとてもステキなプロモですね♪
Awesome sauce... Love how she marries technique with incredible emotion.
Merci pour ce "voyage"!
JMHO
Eurisko Lontano so what. who cares. this is about bosendorfer. they are awesome pianos. that you have never played one or want to is not relevant.
Thank you. You opened my eyes, once again.
Bravo!
Val, this video really move me. It's amazing.
the precision takes place at stage 1, then the touch of a finger, the vibration met of hammer upon wire. truly magical, such evolution. thanks. x < and very beautiful too.
Best piece played by the best pianist for this ad. Worth looking into.
Valentina, magnificent to hear and to see!
What an honor to be able to work in a place like that!!!!!!!
So at the end of the day I could sit down and play!!!!
I’ve had the honor of playing an imperial....9 footer!
