Edited: My Smith and Wesson M&P 2.0 Bullshark has been the most accurate striker fired poly gun I've had, with the best reliability and round count. Wish I never sold it. I felt the same way about both my Steyr Handguns. They were great to carry and shoot under pressure but that really left me wanting when shooting casually. A new set of standard sights would make it a better target gun, but those trapezoidal sights make it such a nice practical carry.
It's not surprising that the Canik, although not included in the actual test, turned in the best group. My TP9SFX is also quite accurate. I am disappointed that a Walther PDP wasn't included as they are fine Service Pistols with excellent triggers. I sometimes manage to put five shots on target at 25 yards with my four inch PDP that can be covered with the palm of my hand and more often shoot groups that I can cover with my full hand. That's standing, using two hands.... and I'm nearly 80 years old.
Very interesting competition. I like the way you settled the tie between the optic fitted handguns and how you kept the competition rig seperate from the duty line of pistols. Thank you for taking the time to shoot these for us.
Great video as always. My Rival Dark Side always puts a smile on my face when I take it to the range and it quickly became my favorite pistol. Followed closely by my Sig Romeo FS.
This video brought a few subjects in focus. When viewed side by side with your TISAS vs. Colt 1811 video. The accuracy of the 1911 definitely surpasses the striker fired plastic guns. However from a police duty weapon the striker fired pistol makes more sense. Remember your premature trigger release of the Colt and your finger hitting the slide release on the TISAS. I had a similar problem but more frequent than you with the Colt's trigger when I had a Sig P220 in 45acp in the single action and that was qualifying with no adrenaline rush. It came as no surprise to me that S&W M&P 2.0 won the accuracy test.
If you decide to get one, be sure to let me know what you think of it. I prefer the ergo's of the M&P to those of the Glock, but it would be interesting to get the perspective of a long time Glock shooter.
This was very good, hrfunk. That Canik is crazy accurate. The P-10 deserves a consistent trigger pull, it has a great reset. The factory shoe seems the problem -- I put an Overwatch Precision shoe in mine and it fixed the strange safety tab behavior in the factory shoe. No reduction in pull weight, just a slightly shorter pre-travel/takeup and more consistent operation.
I'm not surprised the M&P won this; of all the duty handguns presented, it's the one you have the most experience with. You've shot them more, carried them as your duty weapon for years, and are the most comfortable with them. Oh, and it's a great handgun too; mine has been nothing but fantastic to shoot. I'm glad ot was my last handgun purchase before the "handgun transfer freeze" took effect here in Canada.
My old M&P 9mm 2.0 (7&8 rnd mags) shoots very well! Also has the integrated Crimson Trace Laser. It is my most often carried EDC cordless hole puncher!
At a rental range in PA, I tried out their M17 in 9 mm. I was very happy with the ease that I could form a sight picture and make accurate paper target groups. A wide front sight that only has to be kept level and in the middle of the rear sight, instead of a narrow front sight post. They really took their time to design these sights well. They made it easy, for me, anyway. I wonder if they kept the same sights on the M18? // WOW! That Canik was amazing. 9/16". Nice group!!!
I recently purchased a M&P 2.0 compact 40 cal and it's my go to EDC. In my experience it's accuracy and ability to tame 40 S&W to 9mm levels of recoil is unsurpassed, and possibly unmatched.
Ok so one thing I have noticed but confirmed it absolutely in this video is your breath control. I have seen very few people that breathe in... hold it until they shoot... then breathe out and still have consistent or accurate groupings. Most people Breathe in... exhale and make a pause somewhere half way to the bottom of the breathe to squeeze the trigger. It was most noticeable when you were firing the M&P. I think another part of it might be how you have to contort your body to get into that position... arched back in a sitting position puts pressure on your diaphragm which affects your breathing... plus that arched back forces your neck into an unnatural position. With that said, being an owner of an M&P 45 2.0, i figured of those pistol choices, the M&P would be your best shooter.
Thanks my breathing technique is some combination of precision rifle shooting and martial arts training. I honestly don’t know which one is the bigger influence.
At the end of your series, you should do a video using pistols with either Target sights, or dot sights, with small MOA dot. Difference should be dramatic, in my opinion.
Good video Howard. I own several striker fired handguns. Including the P10C, Walther PDP., and others. My P10C is by far my most accurate. In fact. I own two. I didn't care for the factory trigger so I did replace them with HBI Theta triggers (just the trigger, not the spring). I also installed the ($83) Cajun Gun Works Performance Package, the highlight of which is an extended tool steel striker.

@hrfunk Understood. You may want to try the $65 HBI trigger (shoe) in the P10C since this seems to be your (and my) only issue with the gun. Looking forward to the next comparison!
As a reviewer I think it is worthwhile to develop skill in benchrest shooting so you can compare the accuracy of an individual handgun. Duty pistols and defensive pistols don't normally require a high degree of accuracy but if you want to shoot targets for bragging rights, you want to hunt small game, or you need to make a long defensive shot then accuracy can be important. I don't have much respect for reviewers who shoot a handgun at 5 yards at a large steel target and pronounce it to be accurate, you could do the same thing with a 300 year old flintlock. If you have any doubts about your ability with the sights or trigger, or the consistency of your rest, it is valid to shoot 5 or more shots and discount one or two fliers. The Canik group vindicates your ability as a shooter. With open sights I recommend using targets with a dark colored square aiming point because it will relate better to the handgun sights, maybe 2" square or so at 15 yards. This will help with sight alignment.
Accuracy is an interesting concept. Accuracy refers to how close a measurement is to the true or accepted value. In shooting, that is the center of the target (or whatever we are shooting at). Precision refers to how close measurements of the same item are to each other. Again, in shooting, we call this "groups"/"groupings". *ALL quality firearms are designed to be relatively accurate and precise.* HOWEVER, there are many other variables that affect accuracy and precision - some controllable and some not so much. Obviously, ammunition, sights/sighting system, environmental conditions and user intervention all play a part. Having said all that, it does seem that certain firearms affect ones shooting accuracy better than others. For me, my stock $479 S&W M&P9 2.0 shoots amazingly accurate for me. I notice that I have to concentrate much less when shooting a competition/qualification with my M&P versus my SIG or other firearms. In contrast, I shoot my SIG much faster (great trigger), but I have to definitely confirm my sites when shooting precise targets (head shots, between no shoots, etc.)
@@762x69 This distinction (and correlation) between precision and accuracy gets covered well at Appleseed shoots. But in common language, people frequently say "accurate" when a marksman / precision shooter would say "precise." The audience understands precision as "accuracy," in most cases, I think. It's best displayed, IMO, on a pistol that needs a sights adjustment. The rounds pattern well on target (for POI), but they are not at the POA. Precise, but not accurate. A non-shooter would not like hearing "that's a precise pistol!" and would say, "none of them hit the place you were aiming." He's not entirely wrong, is he?
@@seanoneil277 Well put. Ammunition also plays a huge factor in precision (as well as accuracy). I am reminded of this fact sometimes when shooting range ammo and then switching to premium self defense ammo. At 10-20 yards shooting American Eagle is fine - maybe 2 - 2.5 inch groups without even trying - which is more that acceptable for Alpha or Down Zero hits. But I will switch to some HST ammo and they tighten up significantly, like cut in half or more. This is even more exaggerated when shooting a PCC (longer barrel AND 3 points of contact). The same IDPA/USPSA stage I can stack shots with my MP5 or MPX. This is why I like a PCC for home defense - well at least an MP5 or MPX.

There's a pretty stout difference between the Sig V-Crown 115gr and my typical training rounds at either 115gr or 124gr (Blazer 115gr, Norma both grs, PMP 124gr, S&B 124gr). The V-Crown is much more precise in all 3 of my pistols. It's precise in my PCC but there, it doesn't like to load from the magazine after the first chambering & firing. I haven't looked into why exactly, but the V-Crown nose profile I'm sure is the culprit. It's the same in .223/5.56 bulk training ammo vs a decent round with one of the Sierra HPBT. You don't have to be accurizing your rifle in any other way but choice of ammunition, and don't even have to handload, to see the differences.
FWIW, you may not want to rest the magazine/mag well on the bags. You are creating both a pivot point and potentially vertical movement from the mag spring. I usually rest the area under the barrel (forward of the trigger guard) on the bags in a nice deep "V" or even your wrists only.
I thought for sure one of the optics pistols would win I demand a rematch. I'm new to optics and my old eyes love them. For me it gives me the ability to get on target very quickly.
Speed of acquisition and accuracy at distance are the two biggest (claimed) advantages of pistol optics. I think I’m still trying to decide if I agree with those claims.
I would like to see you review the Springfield XDM or XDM Elite 9MM 4.5" OR 5.0 " Full size. I gave up all my Handguns to my Son I kept the XDM .45 Tactical 5.0 " XDM 9 MM 4.5" and the Springfield Hell Cat Micro compact 9mm Taurus TX .22 Ruger LCPII .22LR. I know they are all tack drivers. The S&W M&P 10mm was hard to give up. I might pick up a Springfield XDM Elite in 10mm XS Bigdot Sight will improve the Styer pistol. Outstanding review. That Darkside pistol is accurate nice tight group.
Interesting comparison.👍 Perhaps because the first centerfire I ever shot was a K-38 made in 1952, and my first autos were Browning P-35 and a 1911, I’m a bit of a trigger snob. I’ve had Glocks and we have Springfield XD/M and 1st gen XD/S, but I favor the 1911. You’ve shown that polymer striker fired guns can be accurate - and reminded me of a time at a public range when because it was Ladies Night, my wife got a free rental if she bought the ammo. We tried a full size M&P .45 and both really enjoyed it. Smith built a winning series there.
Not because HE can shoot the glock better means it is a mote accurate handgun. A person that has ONLY shoot glocks can probably shoot better than a person who just started shooting a CZ75. It doesn't mean the glock is more accurate than the CZ, Just rhe Glock shooter is more experienced.
Have you done a video on holsters? I don't have the variety of pistols you have but have some that finding a holster for has been very challenging. The change from system ( holster & pistol) has to not only be costly but also introduce some variables as well.
Well done to the M&P but wow, that’s nice shooting with the Darkside. Very well set-up and it clearly likes the HOP ammunition. As a suggestion for future episodes in this series I’d like to see one on your most accurate short barrelled (snubby) revolver. Thanks.

Oh, heck... It'd better be the newer M&Ps, since I just ordered one (SKU 13567) yesterday : ) First new 9mm in THIRTY YEARS! Hard to beat at $500 after rebate (plus tax, tag, and title) for an optic-ready unit (SEVEN plates included?!?) w/tall sights. Big plus for me was that about the only way to tell it from my full-size M&P .22 is to look at the wrong end... same safety, uses the same holsters, etc. : )
@@El_Camionero Yep... the one with the skeletonized lever in it, instead of the previous hinged trigger. Won't be here for a couple more days, then we'll see if I like it : ) They had the identical 10mm in stock (same trigger and safety) as well as the Competitor (maybe my dream 9?), and I couldn't tell any difference between the trigger on the 10 and the Competitor, so hopefully mine feels the same. I'm no fan of striker-fired (even the M&P .22 has an enclosed hammer), but the biggest advantage over my 5926 will be the lighter pull on the first shot... though I CAN cock the bobbed hammer on the 5926 using my shooting hand only, even WITH my arthritis (all four fingers have to grip BELOW the trigger guard, which is probably a good idea anyway! : )
Handguns are very hard to shoot well, it depends more on what works for you than mechanical advantage of the "gun". Some hands may be to big for a good fit and grip, some may be to small. That is why I tell everyone to test shoot one when they can before they buy. That is very simplified, but that is all we need for now.
I own or have owned a lot of poly striker fired 9mm handguns over the years. The only popular ones I haven’t owned is the hk vp9 and canik series, although I shot those a couple of times. By far and away my Walther ppq m2 5” is the most accurate I’ve shot. 1-2” groups at 25 yards for a production pistol is crazy for a price of under $600. Do yourself a favor and grab a Walther q5 match while you can and see what I’m talking about.
Good morning HR. I was rooting for the Masada. Your positive review influenced my purchase of one, my first plastic gun. I think that the results showed that this class of guns is pretty consistent. On another day the order could turn out differently. Not a big change in performance between them. Go with the one that feels good to you and it will do it's job.
I have yet to see a good review on the Steyr. All in all your rankings are what I expected except for the Sig. I would of expected Sig to rank higher. No surprise on Rival Dark Side I owned a polymer and now a Rival S. Thank you for the rankings. I have seen enough of your videos to appreciate your firearm knowledge, including history, and know you can shoot!
I like the P10F. The trigger has smoothed out over 500 rounds. Though the tritium night sites went dead after 2 years. I switched it out to fiber optics.
I've been toying with the idea of adding a light to my Canik Mete and taking it along for the dog's evening constitutional in stead of my Glock 20. After seeing this video, I need to get that light mounted ASAP.

I previously owned two sigs with romeo 1 pro red dots. My p320 rxp x compact for me was all over the target. My p320 x5 legion for me shot tighter groups with the iron sights.

Great video! My Glock 22 Gen 3 and my Glock Gen 4 seem to be my top striker fire/polymer-framed pistols. However, my S&W 915, 6946, and my Ruger P345 outshoot them a bit with their dbl action triggers.
I very much enjoy these "similar firearm comparisons", but could you consider a comparison between the various class winners? SA revolver vs DA revolver vs Striker fired vs Hammer fired vs 1911 (of course)? I think this would be interesting. As always, thank you for making me a little smarter.

I find with my Steyr M9A1 that the sights are a little too complex. You have a front sight that is a triangle in a triangle, but with the rear you're trying to line it up inside a trapezoid and the white marks on the side are parallelograms. I with they would have blunted the front sight a little so it matched up a bit more. I find to be good accuracy with it it helps to set the white triangle on top of the flat of the rear sight, but it's easy to be inconsistent.
I really like these sights for fast, relatively close-range defensive work. Slow-fire precision shooting, on the otehr hand, is not what they were meant for (and it shows).
Howard, THANKS, I greatly enjoyed this video! Please keep these comparative branch accuracy assessments coming. Now, fwiw, I want to offer a PERSONAL comment. Some years ago, I was able to get a TERRIFIC deal (from Bud’s) on an M&P 1.0 4.25 inch barrel 9mm “police model” (also available to retired military). This M&P has fine night sights, was delivered with three 17 round magazines, and (I am told) has an improved “police” barrel and trigger. It has become my Summer EDC (and often my Winter EDC, as well, although I usually prefer .45 ACP in the colder months, due to heavy clothing). I’m 76, my eyes have deteriorated, and I don’t shoot with the frequency I did decades ago, BUT this Smith is - for me - one excellent autoloader (and, generally, I am not enamored with polymer frame / striker fired weapons). The ergonomic (with the medium grip-insert installed) are simply superb for my hands . . . and the sight / trigger are rather good. Occasionally, it’s a “tack driver,” however, it’s always darn accurate and flawlessly reliable / durable (zero failures with thousands of rounds fired). So, with this “trip down memory lane” completed, I was most pleased that your M&P 2.0 performed so well! Finally - and not to “bomb Pearl Harbor” - I’m one of the many folks for whom Glock ergonomics, sights, triggers and accuracy just don’t work (I own two and have shot dozens). I emphasize that the foregoing opinion represents only one guy’s experiences. But, I was pleased to see the M&P’s stellar accuracy.
Thanks Roy! I really didn't know what to expect going into this one. As I mentioned in the video, there was such a variety of sights, triggers, and ergos, I didn't have a guess for which combination (in my hands) would yield the greatest level of precision. I think truthfully, there isn't a great deal of difference in the mechanical accuracy of these handguns. Had they been placed in a machine rest, I suspect the groups would have been comparable. When fired by a human being, however, all those factors come into play (as you noted with your M&P). I found this contest to be particularly fun and informative. It is entirely possible that my familiarity with the M&P helped it's performance. Then again, I've always favored it for its ergos, sights, trigger, etc. In the end, nothing about these tests can be considered remotely scientific, and another shooter might have completely different results. In the end, I just hope everyone watching these videos enjoys them as much as I enjoy making them. Thanks for the comment and take care.

Millions love Glocks, we’re nit among them, and it’s the SYSTEM (shooter, firearm, ammunition, and subsystems like triggers and sights, etc.) that combine to create success. There are NO “one size fits all” solutions., which is what is great about freedom and capitalism.
Mentioned before but please send the cz back for evaluation . the trigger is very good on the p10 series you might be represented the cz in a bad way by not fixing the trigger
WHAT A SHOCK, THERE'S NO GLOCK!!! Just kidding. I think the M&P is an often underrated pistol, made so by people who don't understand who it was designed for. It is my favorite striker fired patrol sidearm. By the way, I've never been able to put a decent group together off the bench with those Steyr sights either. I did a lot of firing from a Ransom Rest in the 90's and early 2000's. I don't think you're missing anything important by not using one, especially with polymer framed pistols. People who have never used a Ransom Rest have no idea how tedious they are to set up and shoot from when used properly.
My M&P 2.0 Pro Series 5in is literally the most accurate 9mm I've ever shot. Followed by my 2.0 4.25in then my SIG Nitron, and my Canik TP9SF... Last up is my Springfield xd9.
The only issue I see with that is trying to quantify the results. Maybe I could add the size of both groups together, and look for the smallest combination? I'll have to give that some thought. Thanks for watching Craig.
Very entertaining Video! Was happy to see the M&P 2.0 win, but was disappointed to see the Steyr M9A1 lose. I have the Steyr L9A1 and probably need to get out and shoot it more, but I like it. Not surprised at the accuracy of your Canik Rival, as I have a basic service Canik TP9V1 which is also very very accurate with any 9mm Ammunition.
A little surprised at the overall grouping from these pistols. I expected better. The M&P group was closer to what I thought would be average with a couple of others closer to the Canik. My M&P 1.0 has an aftermarket trigger and shoots like the Canik. The best I have is the one excluded by test design parameters, 1911. Glad you didn't embarrass Glock by throwing one into the fray. Thanks for the comparisons.
re: Optics vs. iron sights... I experienced welding burns to my eyes over 20 years ago... and wear progressives... so I STRUGGLE with iron sights, especially where speed is concerned. Having recently started using my first optic, my initial impression is that they not so much improve grouping as improve SPEED and EASE OF USE. I'll eventually review some of my older iron-sight targets for the same pistol, but I'm pretty sure that will be the conclusion: SMALL improvement in accuracy, BIG improvement in speed and ease of use. If your eyes are working perfectly, I'll bet you'll see almost NO improvement in accuracy over good iron sights at sane distances. It amazes me how difficult it is for me to get a clear picture of iron sights... with the progressives, I have to tilt my head back-and-forth until the sights and target are "equally blurry"... yet the dot is CRYSTAL-CLEAR and SHARP at the same distance. I've heard many complaints about fuzzy and distorted dots... and YES, your vision or even eyeglasses CAN be the source of that... but maybe I just got lucky : )
I think the optic also has an advantage at greater distances, because it allows a more refined aiming point. At close distances, I think the irons are superior, so long as the shooters eyesight is up to the task.
Welding burns, oh man I am sorry. Very nice to hear that the RDS helps with your sight picture. I have a hard time resolving iron sights and I don't have retinal burns/scarring, just eyes that are 6 decades old. RDS making shooting enjoyable for you is what I like hearing. It sure has for me.
@@seanoneil277 Yep... welding burns AND six decades old! : ) Prior to the burns, I could read the Bible on the head of a pin, read a street sign 1/4 mile away. After only two months on that job, albeit welding up to 16 hours a day, and thanks to my supervisor sandbagging my efforts to get the helmet I wanted, I came out of there unable to see CRAP... it happened THAT FAST. I went to the "beauty parlor" today (not the same one Mr. Funk uses, though : ), and I just go ahead and put my glasses in a case before I go in. The daughter of the stylist was there, about 15 feet away from me, and I told her: "You know, I can tell it's you but I CANNOT see your face." I couldn't even tell her face had EYES. It's so critical that I'm going to set up a small Pelican case with the variety of glasses I use on a regular basis, because I'm dead in the water without them. I use +2.50 for distance up to infinity, but need up to +4.00 for reading fine print up close, and use +6.00 for watch repair, etc. Before the burns, I could do ALL of that with NONE.
The assessment of the accuracy of any gun is dependent on the person yanking on the trigger. That they have target that presents a good sight picture. That they shoot off a solid rest, there are very few shooters of the a shooter like Brian Zins. Many guns are more accurate than people give them credit for. But, the other part of the equation is that not all guns like the same ammo. One of my favorite reloads is Hornady 9MM (0.356) 125gr HAP with Alliant Power Pistol. I use it for accuracy potential of a 9MM gun.
I still think your P10C has a trigger which escaped their Q.A. process. That group you got is what I typically get shooting rapidly at 15yds with the P10.
The ammo was using is pretty good. For evidence of that just take a look at the group from the. Canik. There may, however, the ammunition the Sig likes better. If I get some NATO spec ammo, maybe I'll try it with that.
Even putting aside the fact the M&P was your duty gun, I'm not surprised it won. It's a great gun.

This was very good, hrfunk. That Canik is crazy accurate.
The P-10 deserves a consistent trigger pull, it has a great reset. The factory shoe seems the problem -- I put an Overwatch Precision shoe in mine and it fixed the strange safety tab behavior in the factory shoe. No reduction in pull weight, just a slightly shorter pre-travel/takeup and more consistent operation.
I'm not surprised the M&P won this; of all the duty handguns presented, it's the one you have the most experience with. You've shot them more, carried them as your duty weapon for years, and are the most comfortable with them. Oh, and it's a great handgun too; mine has been nothing but fantastic to shoot. I'm glad ot was my last handgun purchase before the "handgun transfer freeze" took effect here in Canada.

My old M&P 9mm 2.0 (7&8 rnd mags) shoots very well! Also has the integrated Crimson Trace Laser. It is my most often carried EDC cordless hole puncher!
At a rental range in PA, I tried out their M17 in 9 mm. I was very happy with the ease that I could form a sight picture and make accurate paper target groups. A wide front sight that only has to be kept level and in the middle of the rear sight, instead of a narrow front sight post. They really took their time to design these sights well. They made it easy, for me, anyway. I wonder if they kept the same sights on the M18? // WOW! That Canik was amazing. 9/16". Nice group!!!

I recently purchased a M&P 2.0 compact 40 cal and it's my go to EDC. In my experience it's accuracy and ability to tame 40 S&W to 9mm levels of recoil is unsurpassed, and possibly unmatched.
Ok so one thing I have noticed but confirmed it absolutely in this video is your breath control. I have seen very few people that breathe in... hold it until they shoot... then breathe out and still have consistent or accurate groupings. Most people Breathe in... exhale and make a pause somewhere half way to the bottom of the breathe to squeeze the trigger. It was most noticeable when you were firing the M&P. I think another part of it might be how you have to contort your body to get into that position... arched back in a sitting position puts pressure on your diaphragm which affects your breathing... plus that arched back forces your neck into an unnatural position.
With that said, being an owner of an M&P 45 2.0, i figured of those pistol choices, the M&P would be your best shooter.
Thanks my breathing technique is some combination of precision rifle shooting and martial arts training. I honestly don’t know which one is the bigger influence.
At the end of your series, you should do a video using pistols with either Target sights, or dot sights, with small MOA dot. Difference should be dramatic, in my opinion.

Good video Howard. I own several striker fired handguns. Including the P10C, Walther PDP., and others. My P10C is by far my most accurate. In fact. I own two. I didn't care for the factory trigger so I did replace them with HBI Theta triggers (just the trigger, not the spring). I also installed the ($83) Cajun Gun Works Performance Package, the highlight of which is an extended tool steel striker.

As a reviewer I think it is worthwhile to develop skill in benchrest shooting so you can compare the accuracy of an individual handgun. Duty pistols and defensive pistols don't normally require a high degree of accuracy but if you want to shoot targets for bragging rights, you want to hunt small game, or you need to make a long defensive shot then accuracy can be important. I don't have much respect for reviewers who shoot a handgun at 5 yards at a large steel target and pronounce it to be accurate, you could do the same thing with a 300 year old flintlock.
If you have any doubts about your ability with the sights or trigger, or the consistency of your rest, it is valid to shoot 5 or more shots and discount one or two fliers. The Canik group vindicates your ability as a shooter.
With open sights I recommend using targets with a dark colored square aiming point because it will relate better to the handgun sights, maybe 2" square or so at 15 yards. This will help with sight alignment.
Accuracy is an interesting concept. Accuracy refers to how close a measurement is to the true or accepted value. In shooting, that is the center of the target (or whatever we are shooting at). Precision refers to how close measurements of the same item are to each other. Again, in shooting, we call this "groups"/"groupings". *ALL quality firearms are designed to be relatively accurate and precise.* HOWEVER, there are many other variables that affect accuracy and precision - some controllable and some not so much. Obviously, ammunition, sights/sighting system, environmental conditions and user intervention all play a part.
Having said all that, it does seem that certain firearms affect ones shooting accuracy better than others. For me, my stock $479 S&W M&P9 2.0 shoots amazingly accurate for me. I notice that I have to concentrate much less when shooting a competition/qualification with my M&P versus my SIG or other firearms. In contrast, I shoot my SIG much faster (great trigger), but I have to definitely confirm my sites when shooting precise targets (head shots, between no shoots, etc.)
Correct assessment. I have a couple m&p9s, both used and are the pistols im most precise with 👌🏼
@@762x69 This distinction (and correlation) between precision and accuracy gets covered well at Appleseed shoots. But in common language, people frequently say "accurate" when a marksman / precision shooter would say "precise." The audience understands precision as "accuracy," in most cases, I think.
It's best displayed, IMO, on a pistol that needs a sights adjustment. The rounds pattern well on target (for POI), but they are not at the POA. Precise, but not accurate. A non-shooter would not like hearing "that's a precise pistol!" and would say, "none of them hit the place you were aiming." He's not entirely wrong, is he?
@@seanoneil277 Well put. Ammunition also plays a huge factor in precision (as well as accuracy). I am reminded of this fact sometimes when shooting range ammo and then switching to premium self defense ammo. At 10-20 yards shooting American Eagle is fine - maybe 2 - 2.5 inch groups without even trying - which is more that acceptable for Alpha or Down Zero hits. But I will switch to some HST ammo and they tighten up significantly, like cut in half or more.
This is even more exaggerated when shooting a PCC (longer barrel AND 3 points of contact). The same IDPA/USPSA stage I can stack shots with my MP5 or MPX. This is why I like a PCC for home defense - well at least an MP5 or MPX.

There's a pretty stout difference between the Sig V-Crown 115gr and my typical training rounds at either 115gr or 124gr (Blazer 115gr, Norma both grs, PMP 124gr, S&B 124gr). The V-Crown is much more precise in all 3 of my pistols. It's precise in my PCC but there, it doesn't like to load from the magazine after the first chambering & firing. I haven't looked into why exactly, but the V-Crown nose profile I'm sure is the culprit.
It's the same in .223/5.56 bulk training ammo vs a decent round with one of the Sierra HPBT. You don't have to be accurizing your rifle in any other way but choice of ammunition, and don't even have to handload, to see the differences.
I have a S&W 1.0 40cal I picked up for 275 at a gun show. It's Police trade in and is basic but it still shoots great.

FWIW, you may not want to rest the magazine/mag well on the bags. You are creating both a pivot point and potentially vertical movement from the mag spring. I usually rest the area under the barrel (forward of the trigger guard) on the bags in a nice deep "V" or even your wrists only.
A few months back I bought a Steyr M9 A2. It is a great pistol, but the sights do take some getting used to.
I actually like those sights. They just don't lend themselves to this type of shooting.
I thought for sure one of the optics pistols would win I demand a rematch. I'm new to optics and my old eyes love them. For me it gives me the ability to get on target very quickly.
Speed of acquisition and accuracy at distance are the two biggest (claimed) advantages of pistol optics. I think I’m still trying to decide if I agree with those claims.
I would like to see you review the Springfield XDM or XDM Elite 9MM 4.5" OR 5.0 " Full size. I gave up all my Handguns to my Son I kept the XDM .45 Tactical 5.0 " XDM 9 MM 4.5" and the Springfield Hell Cat Micro compact 9mm Taurus TX .22 Ruger LCPII .22LR. I know they are all tack drivers. The S&W M&P 10mm was hard to give up. I might pick up a Springfield XDM Elite in 10mm XS Bigdot Sight will improve the Styer pistol. Outstanding review. That Darkside pistol is accurate nice tight group.

Interesting comparison.👍 Perhaps because the first centerfire I ever shot was a K-38 made in 1952, and my first autos were Browning P-35 and a 1911, I’m a bit of a trigger snob. I’ve had Glocks and we have Springfield XD/M and 1st gen XD/S, but I favor the 1911. You’ve shown that polymer striker fired guns can be accurate - and reminded me of a time at a public range when because it was Ladies Night, my wife got a free rental if she bought the ammo. We tried a full size M&P .45 and both really enjoyed it. Smith built a winning series there.

Not because HE can shoot the glock better means it is a mote accurate handgun. A person that has ONLY shoot glocks can probably shoot better than a person who just started shooting a CZ75. It doesn't mean the glock is more accurate than the CZ, Just rhe Glock shooter is more experienced.

Have you done a video on holsters? I don't have the variety of pistols you have but have some that finding a holster for has been very challenging. The change from system ( holster & pistol) has to not only be costly but also introduce some variables as well.

First new 9mm in THIRTY YEARS! Hard to beat at $500 after rebate (plus tax, tag, and title) for an optic-ready unit (SEVEN plates included?!?) w/tall sights. Big plus for me was that about the only way to tell it from my full-size M&P .22 is to look at the wrong end... same safety, uses the same holsters, etc. : )

They had the identical 10mm in stock (same trigger and safety) as well as the Competitor (maybe my dream 9?), and I couldn't tell any difference between the trigger on the 10 and the Competitor, so hopefully mine feels the same. I'm no fan of striker-fired (even the M&P .22 has an enclosed hammer), but the biggest advantage over my 5926 will be the lighter pull on the first shot... though I CAN cock the bobbed hammer on the 5926 using my shooting hand only, even WITH my arthritis (all four fingers have to grip BELOW the trigger guard, which is probably a good idea anyway! : )

Handguns are very hard to shoot well, it depends more on what works for you than mechanical advantage of the "gun". Some hands may be to big for a good fit and grip, some may be to small. That is why I tell everyone to test shoot one when they can before they buy. That is very simplified, but that is all we need for now.

I own or have owned a lot of poly striker fired 9mm handguns over the years. The only popular ones I haven’t owned is the hk vp9 and canik series, although I shot those a couple of times. By far and away my Walther ppq m2 5” is the most accurate I’ve shot. 1-2” groups at 25 yards for a production pistol is crazy for a price of under $600. Do yourself a favor and grab a Walther q5 match while you can and see what I’m talking about.

On another day the order could turn out differently. Not a big change in performance between them. Go with the one that feels good to you and it will do it's job.

I like the P10F. The trigger has smoothed out over 500 rounds. Though the tritium night sites went dead after 2 years. I switched it out to fiber optics.

I previously owned two sigs with romeo 1 pro red dots. My p320 rxp x compact for me was all over the target. My p320 x5 legion for me shot tighter groups with the iron sights.

Great video! My Glock 22 Gen 3 and my Glock Gen 4 seem to be my top striker fire/polymer-framed pistols. However, my S&W 915, 6946, and my Ruger P345 outshoot them a bit with their dbl action triggers.

I’ve seen them, but I’ve never shot one. If I do, you’ll see a review here.
I find with my Steyr M9A1 that the sights are a little too complex. You have a front sight that is a triangle in a triangle, but with the rear you're trying to line it up inside a trapezoid and the white marks on the side are parallelograms.
I with they would have blunted the front sight a little so it matched up a bit more.
I find to be good accuracy with it it helps to set the white triangle on top of the flat of the rear sight, but it's easy to be inconsistent.
I really like these sights for fast, relatively close-range defensive work. Slow-fire precision shooting, on the otehr hand, is not what they were meant for (and it shows).
Need to add HK in there ,how much do you think the fact that you probably have more shooting time with the Smith was a factor

Now, fwiw, I want to offer a PERSONAL comment. Some years ago, I was able to get a TERRIFIC deal (from Bud’s) on an M&P 1.0 4.25 inch barrel 9mm “police model” (also available to retired military). This M&P has fine night sights, was delivered with three 17 round magazines, and (I am told) has an improved “police” barrel and trigger. It has become my Summer EDC (and often my Winter EDC, as well, although I usually prefer .45 ACP in the colder months, due to heavy clothing).
I’m 76, my eyes have deteriorated, and I don’t shoot with the frequency I did decades ago, BUT this Smith is - for me - one excellent autoloader (and, generally, I am not enamored with polymer frame / striker fired weapons). The ergonomic (with the medium grip-insert installed) are simply superb for my hands . . . and the sight / trigger are rather good. Occasionally, it’s a “tack driver,” however, it’s always darn accurate and flawlessly reliable / durable (zero failures with thousands of rounds fired).
So, with this “trip down memory lane” completed, I was most pleased that your M&P 2.0 performed so well!
Finally - and not to “bomb Pearl Harbor” - I’m one of the many folks for whom Glock ergonomics, sights, triggers and accuracy just don’t work (I own two and have shot dozens). I emphasize that the foregoing opinion represents only one guy’s experiences. But, I was pleased to see the M&P’s stellar accuracy.
Thanks Roy! I really didn't know what to expect going into this one. As I mentioned in the video, there was such a variety of sights, triggers, and ergos, I didn't have a guess for which combination (in my hands) would yield the greatest level of precision. I think truthfully, there isn't a great deal of difference in the mechanical accuracy of these handguns. Had they been placed in a machine rest, I suspect the groups would have been comparable. When fired by a human being, however, all those factors come into play (as you noted with your M&P). I found this contest to be particularly fun and informative.
It is entirely possible that my familiarity with the M&P helped it's performance. Then again, I've always favored it for its ergos, sights, trigger, etc. In the end, nothing about these tests can be considered remotely scientific, and another shooter might have completely different results. In the end, I just hope everyone watching these videos enjoys them as much as I enjoy making them. Thanks for the comment and take care.

I agree entirely, Howard. Millions love Glocks, we’re nit among them, and it’s the SYSTEM (shooter, firearm, ammunition, and subsystems like triggers and sights, etc.) that combine to create success. There are NO “one size fits all” solutions., which is what is great about freedom and capitalism.

Zeroed a brand new m&p9 full size with and rmr @ 25 yards a couple weeks ago and measured 1" group with 124 grain HST. It was Benched.

Mentioned before but please send the cz back for evaluation . the trigger is very good on the p10 series you might be represented the cz in a bad way by not fixing the trigger
WHAT A SHOCK, THERE'S NO GLOCK!!! Just kidding. I think the M&P is an often underrated pistol, made so by people who don't understand who it was designed for. It is my favorite striker fired patrol sidearm. By the way, I've never been able to put a decent group together off the bench with those Steyr sights either.
I did a lot of firing from a Ransom Rest in the 90's and early 2000's. I don't think you're missing anything important by not using one, especially with polymer framed pistols. People who have never used a Ransom Rest have no idea how tedious they are to set up and shoot from when used properly.

Not a fair comparison though. Because some guns prefer some ammo, others prefer other ammo.
My M&P 2.0 Pro Series 5in is literally the most accurate 9mm I've ever shot. Followed by my 2.0 4.25in then my SIG Nitron, and my Canik TP9SF... Last up is my Springfield xd9.

Not surprised at the accuracy of your Canik Rival, as I have a basic service Canik TP9V1 which is also very very
accurate with any 9mm Ammunition.
A little surprised at the overall grouping from these pistols. I expected better. The M&P group was closer to what I thought would be average with a couple of others closer to the Canik. My M&P 1.0 has an aftermarket trigger and shoots like the Canik. The best I have is the one excluded by test design parameters, 1911. Glad you didn't embarrass Glock by throwing one into the fray. re: Optics vs. iron sights...
I experienced welding burns to my eyes over 20 years ago... and wear progressives... so I STRUGGLE with iron sights, especially where speed is concerned. Having recently started using my first optic, my initial impression is that they not so much improve grouping as improve SPEED and EASE OF USE.
I'll eventually review some of my older iron-sight targets for the same pistol, but I'm pretty sure that will be the conclusion: SMALL improvement in accuracy, BIG improvement in speed and ease of use. If your eyes are working perfectly, I'll bet you'll see almost NO improvement in accuracy over good iron sights at sane distances.
It amazes me how difficult it is for me to get a clear picture of iron sights... with the progressives, I have to tilt my head back-and-forth until the sights and target are "equally blurry"... yet the dot is CRYSTAL-CLEAR and SHARP at the same distance. I've heard many complaints about fuzzy and distorted dots... and YES, your vision or even eyeglasses CAN be the source of that... but maybe I just got lucky : )
I think the optic also has an advantage at greater distances, because it allows a more refined aiming point. At close distances, I think the irons are superior, so long as the shooters eyesight is up to the task.
Welding burns, oh man I am sorry. Very nice to hear that the RDS helps with your sight picture. I have a hard time resolving iron sights and I don't have retinal burns/scarring, just eyes that are 6 decades old. RDS making shooting enjoyable for you is what I like hearing. It sure has for me.

Prior to the burns, I could read the Bible on the head of a pin, read a street sign 1/4 mile away. After only two months on that job, albeit welding up to 16 hours a day, and thanks to my supervisor sandbagging my efforts to get the helmet I wanted, I came out of there unable to see CRAP... it happened THAT FAST.
I went to the "beauty parlor" today (not the same one Mr. Funk uses, though : ), and I just go ahead and put my glasses in a case before I go in. The daughter of the stylist was there, about 15 feet away from me, and I told her:
"You know, I can tell it's you but I CANNOT see your face."
I couldn't even tell her face had EYES. It's so critical that I'm going to set up a small Pelican case with the variety of glasses I use on a regular basis, because I'm dead in the water without them. I use +2.50 for distance up to infinity, but need up to +4.00 for reading fine print up close, and use +6.00 for watch repair, etc.
Before the burns, I could do ALL of that with NONE.

The assessment of the accuracy of any gun is dependent on the person yanking on the trigger. That they have target that presents a good sight picture. That they shoot off a solid rest, there are very few shooters of the a shooter like Brian Zins. Many guns are more accurate than people give them credit for. But, the other part of the equation is that not all guns like the same ammo. One of my favorite reloads is Hornady 9MM (0.356) 125gr HAP with Alliant Power Pistol. I use it for accuracy potential of a 9MM gun.
I like the HAP bullets too, but I don't see them all that often.

The canik is basically a Walther clone so I’m not surprised it shoots tight groups like that.
I wonder why they don't make a single action striker fired pistol, where the striker is fully cocked and drops when the trigger is pulled.
I believe the Canik pistols are designed that way.
I still think your P10C has a trigger which escaped their Q.A. process. That group you got is what I typically get shooting rapidly at 15yds with the P10.
The trigger feels the same as every other P10 I’ve ever sampled. It’s about like a Glock with a little less creep.

Since you used full sized 9mm, why not use 147gr 9mm cartridges?
In 9mm I always gravitate toward the 124 grain loads.
I'd love to see a follow up with the Sig M18 vs the M&P 2.0 with the Sig firing better ammo.
The ammo was using is pretty good. For evidence of that just take a look at the group from the. Canik. There may, however, the ammunition the Sig likes better. If I get some NATO spec ammo, maybe I'll try it with that.

I’m surprised that you did not include the H&K VP9. This is the most accurate handgun I own. (Or is it my Canik TP9SFX?)
I don't own any H&K handguns. I'll see if I can get one in to review in the future.
H.R. always does a great job but I’ll take my Sig Sauer P226 Legion over any of them polyester pistols.
