This was released before MTV came about. This song only hit number 15 on the Billboard charts in February 1982 (ridiculous) but is one of her most memorable songs and really showcases her incredible voice. YAY....My other favorite singer that I had a crush on as a teen. First was Olivia Newton John and then there was Sheena Eason. Olivia was my Aussie babe...and Sheena was my Scottish babe. You will really love some of her other songs, especially her duets with Kenny Rogers and Prince.

I was innocent enough to not know what Sugar Walls was all about until I was older. She had an angelic voice and sound that made me crush on her ... ah, youth. Check out her (original) vocal performance of "Wind Beneath My Wings" from her 1982 album "Madness, Money & Music". Bette Midler had a hit with that song in 1988 but she didn't possess anywhere near the vocal prowess of Sheena Easton. Give that one a listen and reaction - I think you both will love that song and her rendition!

I had a HUGE crush on Sheena Easton back in the day. Sensational vocalist who seems to have been forgotten over time, which is kinda tragic. Her early career featured a lot of peppy pop songs like this and some fantastic ballads, like "Almost Over You" and "I Wouldn't Beg For Water." By the mid-80s she was moving towards a more R&B sound and a sexier image, which also included several collaborations with Prince ("Sugar Walls," "U Got the Look," "101," "Arms of Orion," and more). Fun fact: she's the only person to do a James Bond movie theme (For Your Eyes Only) to actually appear in the opening credits of the movie. She's well worth a deep dive!

Fun story: Smokey Robinson wrote "Being with You" for Kim Carnes after she did "More Love." He said he had no intention of recording it himself. When he presented the song to her producer, he created a demo and asked Smokey to sing on it, claiming it was to give Kim an idea of how it should sound. He did, and the producer then played it back for Smokey, and said, "now doesn't this sound great with *you* singing it?" Smokey thought so too.
Sheena was a club singer in Glasgow but was thrust into the limelight when she was featured in a UK TV series called "The Big Time" where she was essentially introduced to record labels and producers to see if she could make it...and she did! YAY....My other favorite singer that I had a crush on as a teen. First was Olivia Newton John and then there was Sheena Eason. Olivia was my Aussie babe...and Sheena was my Scottish babe. You will really love some of her other songs, especially her duets with Kenny Rogers and Prince.
You should definitely listen to her sing Almost Over You. Her beautiful voice can break your heart! She also did For Your Eyes Only,, which was one of the James Bond theme songs. They kind of consider her a Bond girl even though she isn't actually in the movie but her intro where she sings the song was such a gigantic hit. That's one you should watch the actual movie Video.
No - Easton is Not considered a Bond girl. You have to actually be in a James Bond movie to be a Bond girl. Adele has sung a James Bond song; that doesn't make her a Bond girl and she doesn't consider herself one either.

The song was titled "Morning Train (Nine to Five)" to avoid confusion with Dolly Parton's hit "9 to 5" which hit #1 a couple of months earlier that year in 1981.
In the UK it was called 9 to 5, and then when released in the USA retitled to avoid confusion with the Dolly Parton song

For some reason Sheena Easton is sorta forgotten nowadays when people think of great 80s singers. Fact is her voice is outstanding and songs like Strut are catchy while ballads like "Almost Over You" show her vocal chops.

I love Sheena. Listen to her James Bond theme song "For Your Eyes Only" from the movie of the same title. She did a great job singing with Prince on the song "U Got the Look." Of course her controversial song, "Sugar Walls." She won a Grammy for Best New Artist. She even has songs in Spanish.
After this Prince fell in love with her musically and I think they were an item for awhile. One of the happiest songs of the 90ies.

I was a kid (~10yo) when I got her cassette tape of A Private Heaven. Loved that so much that I would play it constantly. I was innocent enough to not know what Sugar Walls was all about until I was older. She had an angelic voice and sound that made me crush on her ... ah, youth. Anyways, I highly recommend almost all of her hits!

My sister & I were both absolutely obsessed with watching it when we were kids, but aside from it being hilarious it could've also had a little something to do with the both of us as little girls being fascinated by Dolly & her incredible acting skills! Sheena Easton, from Scotland, was a pure pop vocalist with a tremendous range and of course, gorgeous looks! she was constantly on the pop music charts pretty much throughout the 1980s. Check out her (original) vocal performance of "Wind Beneath My Wings" from her 1982 album "Madness, Money & Music". Bette Midler had a hit with that song in 1988 but she didn't possess anywhere near the vocal prowess of Sheena Easton. Give that one a listen and reaction - I think you both will love that song and her rendition!
She hits the high notes for sure. I loved her as a kid. I remember buying and wearing the grooves out of my Strut 45, not really appropriate for an 11-year old but neither were the Grease songs that I also sang along to. Her song, Almost Over You, and duet with Kenny Rogers are both beautiful.

She’s got one of the best voices and can sing catchy pop songs, slamming R&B/dance songs, as well as big note ballads. To this day, she’s the only artist ever to have top 5 hits on the 5 different genre charts: Pop, dance, country, R&B, and adult contemporary. Please react to more of her stuff. I had a HUGE crush on Sheena Easton back in the day. Sensational vocalist who seems to have been forgotten over time, which is kinda tragic. Her early career featured a lot of peppy pop songs like this and some fantastic ballads, like "Almost Over You" and "I Wouldn't Beg For Water." By the mid-80s she was moving towards a more R&B sound and a sexier image, which also included several collaborations with Prince ("Sugar Walls," "U Got the Look," "101," "Arms of Orion," and more). Fun fact: she's the only person to do a James Bond movie theme (For Your Eyes Only) to actually appear in the opening credits of the movie. She's well worth a deep dive!

Sheena Easton is amazing. She is an actress as well as a singer. My favorite song is "For Your Eyes Only", which has music by Bill Conti ( composer of the 'Rocky' theme "Gonna Fly Now"), the title song to the James Bond film of the same name. Sheena has, so far, been the only artist to appear in the opening credits of a James Bond movie singing the theme song over the opening credit sequence. The song was also nominated for an Oscar for Best Song.

I recall listening to this as my Daddy would drive me to high school. Cute song!! I've never seen the video. Sheena's got vocals!! Not sure if they're really showcased the best here.
She is a very well known singer in her homeland of Scotland 🏴 but she went to the States she was just catapulted to the top and very well deserved and a Bond theme tune singer too with For Your Eyes Only. I loved her from the early days and was born and grew up in the same town as my aunt lived in called Bellshill, in the county Lanarkshire in central Scotland it’s about an hour to Glasgow and an hour ten to twenty to Edinburgh depending on traffic.

Fun story: Smokey Robinson wrote "Being with You" for Kim Carnes after she did "More Love." He said he had no intention of recording it himself. When he presented the song to her producer, he created a demo and asked Smokey to sing on it, claiming it was to give Kim an idea of how it should sound. He did, and the producer then played it back for Smokey, and said, "now doesn't this sound great with *you* singing it?" Smokey thought so too.
