Working within constraints makes projects interesting and fun. Constraints frequently lead to innovation and new things. I've been an engineer over 40 years, all of my best work has been on projects that are totally hemmed in by design constraints. Constraints really show what you are truly capable of.
Awesome video. Definitely makes people think when there starting a project to have that finished goal. And following what you have shared with people will definitely have a positive effect on finished product. And if not finished a better way to understanding on how to maby complete the task at hand.
Great stuff man! Your videos educated me more for my passion of sound, music and building quality speakers hopefully, as a hobby for now. We will see what the future brings! ✌🏻
Holy shit that intro!! I mean I've heard all about the 6 word story before but together with that music choice and and all that it just shot chills all through out my entire body. I really enjoyed that. 👍
Good video for DIYers who may not consider constraints during the design phase of their project, or those who may see constraints as unnecessarily limiting creativity. Of course, as a DIYer, YOU establish these constraints and can modify, add or eliminate them as needed. Chances are that you may not be trained or disciplined in creating, applying and adhering to design constraints. It may then become necessary to adjust them mid-stream to overcome "painting yourself into a corner". Tip from a Mech.Eng. Designer (not speakers but the same philosophy applies): It's important to start by considering the Big Three. QCD... Quality, Cost and Delivery (timing). In the professional world I tell my clients, "You choose any two, the remainder is mine." You'll quickly see the inversely proportionate relationship established. ie: High quality delivered quickly is going to cost you. It's important to see the interplay here and strike an acceptable balance (value). As it pertains here (DIY speakers), many considerations can be filed under each of these 3 headings. Sound, fit & finish, aesthetics all fall under "quality". Size, components, materials, tooling and YOUR direct time spent (hours) contribute to "cost". "Delivery" (think date) of the finished project is where hobby DIYers may have a little more latitude. This may become tighter if you're selling the project or gifting it for say, a birthday. This may rush you through component selection due to shipping lag time. Creating a project time-line (usually a Gantt Chart) can give you a tremendous advantage in forward planning and applying / adjusting your constraints effectively. Lol, I need to stop here because I'm getting into an area where I "should" be charging fees, or making my own videos (which I do plan on doing soon). That said, I'm perfectly happy to clarify or elaborate on anything I've mentioned here. Great channel Kirby, been subbed for a while.
Man, your content is really getting better every video I watch, please keep it up. Sadly it's so expensive to buy driver's here in Brasil, we only have pioneer or JBL almost, and just car speakers. Can you build a house speaker set with car drivers? Would be great!
That's actually a natural rock formation called Sfinxul (the Sphinx). Varful Omu is the tallest peak from the Bucegi mountain range, about 2h hike from the Sphinx :-). Nice video Kirby
Have you ever considered custom atmos speakers in your designs ? I .think that would be awesome addition and home theatre is very big on Atmos your speakers would look killer. Call them KMA custom Atmos. What do u think ?
idk as long as the speakers reflect sound from the ceiling, atmos sounds (not literally, I have no reference) pretty homeopathic to me, not much better than 7.1 soundbars
therandomgermanguy the atmos modules are the reflective speakers the actual atmos speaker is mounted as a front center or rear height. Klipsch and SVS has the most popular ones right now. But if Kirby did some especially with the woods he uses they would really be a show piece.
Mrtscrp30 so in atmos terms it would be considered a 5.2.2 system, with the atmos speakers firing down from a higher location? at least its what it seems like from the svs blog on height effect
hi man, i got a challenge for you: is it possible to build a good quality enclosure having only the size and rms power of a given driver? thats one heck of a restraint!
For somebody that has had a Stillborn child, that story is way too close to home. It also beautifully illustrates the point you make. Thank you for another chance to think about my little boy, especially since making speakers with him was high on my list of things to do.
hey. been following your vids' & tuts' keep it up. ive been wondering. got some drivers . but without any ts parameters. do you think that. an aproximate box volume + port would work with them?
Hey guys! I know this one is pretty different, but thanks for checking it out! Just something thats been on my mind a lot lately.
Nothing wrong with different, I like these videos I can just listen to

Epic stuff mate love it !

Absolutely brilliant... I'm totally going to share it in my graphic and web design team. The principles are universal and it's succinct. Brilliant!!
Thank you!!
I like the thumbnail. That cliff is famous here in romania. It is situated in the Bucegi mountains.
Great stuff man!

well said Kman, solid advice
This was a truly great little video. I'm going to use Hemmingway anecdote in a meeting today! 😊
Thanks Kirby, I'm at that point of indecision right now. need to whrite that list, good vid.
Good timing! Thanks for watching!

Really thought-provoking. Love a referenced/evidence-based video. Rather meditative too with the music choice. Nicejob :)
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

You had a picture in the background that was from Romania - Varful Omu.

Or just design a complete KMA budget-related 7.2 setup. Sounds like a winner to me!
Yes! I'm working on an Atmos design right now. I really want to start doing more home theater builds. Thanks for watching!

How long will take your arm to get better? how did you hurt yourself?
diy Google Home Assistant with RPi3 & KMA Speaker Setup (Basically DIY Google Home Max) please :)
Not first
The only way is through.
Anything that has constraints leads to destruction of the consumer.
No constraints. I mean.
