Nickel Plate Road 765's charismatic, thunderous 6-chime whistle echoes through scenic central Pennsylvania as she pulls the Lehigh Gorge Special, an excursion train over the Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern from Allentown to Pittston, PA via Jim Thorpe and the Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway.
These trips took place August 22-23, 2015. This was NKP 765's last run for Norfolk Southern's 21st Century Steam program.
Bring back fond memories, I was a brakeman on the Nickel Plate Railroad out of Bellevue Ohio in 1953 , what giant’s those engines was .
Oh the LGS. How I remember riding it like it was yesterday. If yesterday was 2015.
765's whistle sounds just like the N&W 611's also there's a rare NS C40-9 @26:46
It’s upsetting how mainline steam excursion operations aren’t like this anymore. Wish they will just come back to the mainline in the future! Who agrees with me?
Wait, was that the 611 auxiliary tender?
Yes. Fort Wayne has used that tender on multiple occasions
Amtrak706 cool. Mind if I react to your channel?
What do you mean react?
