      ???You just watched modern Judo. This is exactly what it looks like...
      First days of judo and there wouldve been leg locks, ankle locks, neck cranks, wrist locks, body triangles (do-jime), atemi (striking) etc. All banned in IJF, probably all competitions, other than club randori for some 'budo' clubs (although I've not seen striking, and wrist locks allowed ever in randori). For the majority, even when taught, it's rarely allowed for randori, just kata or pre-arranged sparring.

      Judo CHOP!

    • @DMurdock
      @DMurdock 4 года назад +15

      BJJ is closer to old judo than modern Judo. A lot of techniques that judo has banned can still be done in BJJ. Guard passing is also an old judo element that isn't practiced in modern judo because the guard doesn't exist there. Watch Masahiko Kimura's match against Helio Gracie. Kimura uses a lot of techniques that are now obsolete in judo and would be considered BJJ moves today.

    • @DMurdock
      @DMurdock 4 года назад +1

      @Andrew kosen judo is old judo. It's actually closer to BJJ than kodokan judo. When people say judo, they don't mean kosen judo as well. They just mean kodokan. The IJF doesn't oversee the universities that practice kosen judo. And there is no guard in kodokan judo. Not anymore.

    • @ememe1412
      @ememe1412 4 года назад +3

      @@DMurdock kosen judo is just another rule set for competing in judo. Today, it exists only at inter collegiate level teams in Japan as part of school tradition. It sprang from the time before weight categories. If one got paired with somebody bigger, so as not to easily concede a full Ippon against your own team, one would go in to shikko to approach the opponent forcing a ground grapple lessening the chance of an Ippon by throw. That's all.
      At club level, randori might initiate from seiza position to straight ground grapple. The only guard I've never seen practiced in Judo is the rubber guard. The rest are all there. You dont see it much in competition because the ne waza has to 'explode' and 'clear progress' has to be seen or it will be reset.
      The kodokan has kept all the repertoire and there are teachers there that know and teach the formal techniques.

    0:40 How MANY time have you seen high-level judo referees watching judokas with flaccid limbs ( 0:48 & even spasms starting at 0:52 !) and yet still trying to figure out if they are choked out for 20 more seconds? It is preposterous and just shoking.

    •  4 года назад +1

      I caught that too. Lazy ref. Wants to referee while moving as little as possible.

      Judo referees need to take a page from the BJJ comp playbook and do a lot more to protect the fighters.

    I'm a fan of Munkhbat as I've mentioned a few times
    she's a great newaza expert
    she made remarkable progress in her newaza from 2012 thruoghout 2013
    her favorite Huizinga Roll is one of the current best newaza techniques
    but she was pinned and submitted by former world champ Ami Kondo
    and she was pinned by former world champ Funa Tonaki
    both are also newaza players who are specialized in SRT
    which is a very popular kosen technique among Japanese girls
    Munkhbat and many European players tend to frequently use
    Submission techniques
    on the other hand,many Japanese female players except
    Natsumi Tsunoda who is specialized in Juji are just Osaekomi crazies
    because of that,Westerners except IJF commentators tend to ignore them
    despite they dominate on the ground

    • @ArpMadore1
      @ArpMadore1 4 года назад

      ruclips.net/video/rxzViil_0p8/видео.html
      SRT stands for Super Rolling Thunder
      This pinning technique was invented by the Kosen Judoka named Endo
      He seemed to like Professional Wrestling
      It is said that's why he chose such an exaggerated name

      @@SereneJudo I would say Kosen judo could equal BJJ for the most part, but the modern sport BJJ is way too different to compare against Kosen Judo, but on the other hand like you siad since Judo newaza is so much more fast and explosive I think some BJJ guys would have an issue with this since they are used to opponents grinding away and not switching up and attacking so quickly and aggressively.

      I just saw a fight on youtube where a Japanese judo guy choked out Royce Gracie. Yoshida was his name. So I guess the ground work that these judo experts learn is good enough to get the job done
