You're preaching to the choir, Jeffrey! The controls for margin and padding have been pretty well the same since the inception of Elementor without a second look as to how improving them might help people use the product more efficiently and effectively. Repeatedly, I forget to remember those greyed-out numbers from desktop or tablet as I work my way down in sizes, then need to reverse my workflow to determine what they were! And does anyone else have trouble quickly differentiating the two "linked or unlinked" icons from each other, which are only a few pixels different in design?!
Very true. The fact that margin and padding is resetting in responsive editing is a constant source of frustration. But I still prefer Elementor over Bricks over all... For now.
Totally agree on the «unlinked by default» or linked sides and linked too/bottom, but honestly the reset of numbers has never bothered me, since I will be changing the numbers why would I need to see what the numbers where for a large screen size? When setting the new padding for tablet or phone I’m entering new settings that are different, so no need for the old numbers since I’m tuning it for a new screen size, and since I’m doing this only seconds after having set the numbers for large screen it doesn’t take that much brainpower to remember what number to set it smaller as ;)
@ Looking at it from a broader perspective that’s slightly more useful than single issues focused on personal workflow and needs that differ from person to person: What they both should implement is an option for saving defaults to specific parts of the UI where there might be differences in workflow or preference from person to person. Specifically for padding and margins a small icon for opening settings for the Ui component, where one could choose between all linked, linked horizontal and vertical separated or unlinked, and saving that as a default for all instances of that component would be helpful. It would be a feature for advanced users for sure, but it would make things more flexible for everybody and something one would then set one single time. This type of susi config could then extend to setting default type size preference, even down to element level (like H1, H2, etc). These settings would of course still be available in a general settings area where one could drill down if necessary by utilizing a simple vs advanced preference for the settings, allowing for more granular control. This config could then be exported/imported or set as a personal editor preference file that one could either upload to every new install, or if using a blueprint for setting up new sites be part of that blueprint.
Elementors 4 slot inputs including margin, paddings, border radius, border size etc has had a big I reported over two years ago; if it’s “linked” so that all four inputs have the same value , on every browser it’s bugs out if you try to use a decimal. If it’s unlinked, you can enter a decimal into one input just fine. Was told two years ago it would get priority 😂 just one example of foundational issues that don’t get fixed in favour of floating buttons and new features. Bricks for the win !
OMG I've been screaming from mountain tops about that bug for a couple years ago! I almost showed it in this video. It's so easy to replicate and extremely annoying for using REM.
@@LytboxStudio yes, the issue I found with elementor is that that builder adds its css styling in every where, which is very confusing, inspecting something.
I’m pulling for elementor to implement @layers for their styles . In my local sites I’ve done this manually as overriding their default selectors is a real pain but support for @layer is getting very close
I'm heading into the world of Bricks after using Breakdance for a website I build recently. I never really liked Elementor, which I would compare to a new installation of Windows, it's got bloat not even on the speed it's just clunky and heavy. Bricks and Breakdance feel more like a fresh install of Linux, it's smooth and lightweight. Bricks really needs to update their tutorials, hopefully it's on the cards.
You pointed out a massive nuisance of Elementor. The way i fixed it for me for now is using only variables which are already clamped down to mobile. So I'm not even switching through breakpoints as much as I used to.
I set up the variables with snippets then use them like var(--gap-s) directly in the padding/margin box or I set them up using the semantic section tag for outer containers @@LytboxStudio
I'm still creating Elementor videos but I'll also be creating Bricks and Breakdance videos but from an Elementor user's perspective so it's easier for Elementor users to learn
Currently I'm not using elementor margin and padding like elementor system. I'm using class name like: pt/pb/mt/mb this way can reduce CSS. And yes elementor can steal this from bricks.
Huh? Seems to me that creating the clamp statement - of which there would be many different versions for many situations on a single website - would take much longer than dealing with the clunkiness of the Elementor interface. But perhaps I'm not fully understanding your very brief response.

I'd love to see how others are using clamps in Elementor paddings and margins. Are you using them? If so, please share how. I'm sure many would find that valuable.
I would love to see a new 'Pro' version build from the ground up. But in all fairness, they have made heaps of improvements under the hood. The divs alone have been reduced over half of what they had 2 years ago. But eventually, they will need to start over with a complete rebuild
Elementor should be rewritten from the ground up. The editor logic sucks! Just look at the ton of unnecessary HTML produced. Without at least 1gb of memory limit you can’t do anything serious in editor. Grid system? It must be a joke!

Or... just get and use Bricks?

Both are good and have their pros and cons. The best builder for everyone is the one that works best for the individual.
In addition, Elementor needs to support ACF Repeater.
Yes, Bricks are available that support ACF Repeater

True, we get used to they way it works. But when seeing it implemented much better, even a little bit of brain power saved can make a big difference.

In addition to repeating yourself, it adds more CSS code to the page too for each breakpoint.

I think I did read something last month somewhere that they (Elementor) are working on it, upgrading to css variables.
That will be so very welcomed!

Right. Elementor should improve these things.
