It's Neverland and they are the lost boys. They grow up and face reality, hence the dark end. This would also be the prelude to Hot and that world. So it goes Darling > Hot > World.
oh there's a lot to dissect in this mv! my most favorite Seventeen mv. it has a lot of references to Peter Pan and the Lost Boys, where they don't have shadows because they refuse to grow up.
some easter eggs you may have missed:
3:05 the clock has a nail preventing the clock to move, stopping the time
6:12 the chairs dressed up with grown up clothes and it suddenly becomes dark
7:11 Jeonghan's reflection don't match with how he thinks looked like. they're in a made up world
lol sorry i just get excited when it's Darling. I'll let you guys figure out the rest lol but one last thing, Seventeen said this song is a love letter to carats. it's called Darling because Wendy Darling... fans grow up and eventually have to adult but Seventeen promises to remain the same... 😭

I love the darling mv too! But regarding seventeen staying the same, isn't the point of the video is even the lost boys (seventeen?) cannot stay young forever. They, too, must eventually face reality and let time pass?
When Wendy left Neverland the lost boys left with her, so all grew up together. Seventeen are growing up with Carats.
i think kerry's one of the few people who caught the no shadow thing in first watch reaction! i'll let the others explain this bc it's such a nice lore but it's basically neverland lost boys type of lore.

It was the pre-release of their "Face the Sun" album and if you look at it carefully it gives hints on the other songs on the album - especially "HOT".
The other songs on referenced are - Shadow, Ash, Domino, If You Leave Me. The fact that they were able to add all of these teasers in one MV just makes me love it even more.
Also, it was the album about facing your challenges and overcoming them - literally facing the sun and becoming the sun as a result; which is why as they fall apart at the end they don't seem scared at all.
But, just love how confusing the MV is when placed next to the lyrics of the song. I've seen people who react to it and finish the song before realizing it's all in English because they are so immersed in the storyline. 😅
There is another Special MV (Seventeen @comebacm Face the Sun) for Darl+ing if you want to watch it. It will not stress you at all.
when you said "other-worldliness" I WAS LIKE YESS YOU'RE SO ON POINT !! they're actually the lost boys in peter pan and this is neverland, they're stuck in youth, they don't have shadows and they're happy because they don't know anything. It all changes when vernon realises this and tells everyone else

Lot of fans talk about Darl+ing mv, Inner Shadow trailers - Scoups (As far as I found on Google, a related theory is Carl Jung's which is related to the Shadow Self), Hot mv, and _World mv are all connected.
In my opinion, the scariest Seventeen mv is Darl+ing. This mv is packaged really beautifully, but in my opinion the theory in it is more scary than Fear. You can see there is also a crying wall.
In Darl+ing mv Seventeen has no shadow and after that one of the members accidentally found out about it. Shadow is the most primitive side that exists within humans, located very far below the subconscious. Shadow is an archetype that represents qualities that humans try to hide from others and even themselves. They don't have a shadow because they deny that the shadow exists within themselves. Shadows can contain trauma, and painful things and they reject all of that within themselves.
They act as if everything is fine. Their shadows get bigger and bigger, the trauma and pain they feel becomes more real. And there is a scene where their shadow starts to appear because they decided to face it.
And the last minute in the mv is a representation of their dark, messy, fragile and scary subconscious. Making peace with the shadow within is certainly not easy, but here they face it even though the 'pretend' world they have built so far is broken.
In Darl+ing they tried to hide their shadows.
In Hot they will now become the Sun and create a world without their shadows.
In _World the new world can be whatever you want it to be (this may also be connected to the song Ima - Even if the world ends tomorrow).
Have you heard, Seventeen are coming to glastonbury.
I feel among all the reactors I have personally watched to, Kerry seems to be the first to immediately catch that Joshua's hand didn't have a shadow, only the flower/leaf had. Amazing attention to detail!
Also from what I know this video has a lot to unravel. Even now I find new revelations suddenly while seeing others react or from other carats comments! Its amazing!
