- First time here? Before you pass this up...PLEASE READ THIS!
A lot of first time viewers (mostly hearing viewers) see the first minute or two and then leave. Some have told me that it doesn't apply to them as they are "hearing". Guess what...so are many others here as well as myself. Take a moment and watch ... ASL (American Sign Language) is a beautiful language that many deaf and hard-of-hearing people use to communicate. It is their language as much as English, Spanish, French, or any other language is for us who are hearing.
True story... Many years ago I was a beat cop and was flagged down by someone who spoke in what I thought were the most unintelligible words I'd heard and moved their hands about in what I at first thought was some type of exaggerated storytelling. I raised my voice several times trying to tell them that I could not understand them (don't laugh .. we all do that at times) and finally, I got back into my patrol car and left. I quickly forgot about them but a few days later I saw a log entry detailing that a couple I was contacted by were deaf and they had finally used a service and called to report a burglary. I justified it to myself saying that it wasn't my fault. And you know what... it really wasn't my "fault"...but as a man, as a Christian man, I should have done better. I failed them miserably. And then, a few short years ago my wife (Jewelz) started losing her hearing. She took an ASL class. Sitting at home one night I realized I needed to be in that class with her. So soon I signed up and after one class, she and I were talking when I became emotional. She asked what was wrong and I told her the story from the night many years back. That memory had flooded my mind all at once and all I could think about was the DIS-service I had done to those people that night. I truly felt ashamed for my insensitivity So even if you came for the song, don't discard it just because it is in ASL.
This song is awesome, with a great message and upbeat, and uplifting music. And maybe....just maybe, someone might remember that person they met, perhaps a co-worker, maybe a relative, or maybe someone they just might chance upon one night who is in need, and realize that, maybe, they too should learn a few words in sign language so they never make the mistake I did. It is a beautiful language. I'm getting better all the time and encourage people everywhere to take that first lesson and see if it is something they want to learn.
As for Jewelz... they say the day is not that far off when she will be completely without any hearing. So maybe she won't be able to hear me say "I love you" at that point...but at least I can say with my hands. And that she can "hear" well!
Please....Always feel free to leave a comment, hit the "like" button, and subscribe. This song was from a viewer (thank you Kathy) and if you would like a specific song, please leave a comment and let us know. I know we have been a little slow getting back to some of you and for that we apologize.
