- 2021 Trolley Weekend (previously called Electric Traction weekend) at the IRM. This was the first electric event in two years, and they ran a variety of equipment including Chicago Aurora and Elgin cars, a North Shore car, CTA Skokie Swift cars, the Metra Highliners, and both steam locomotives: Shay 5 and Frisco 1630.
I'm glad to see that the Illinois Railroad Museum has some operating examples of metra's former Illinois Central Buy-Level electrics I hope they're going to be restored back into their Illinois Central color scheme
Two of them are from bombardier and two are from st.louis car company. I think they should paint one of each into illinois central and keep the other two as metra.
@USBCord Well, put my sentiments exactly. Next time I'm in Chicagoland I'm going to visit this place.
@@USBCord I agree paint one example of the two manufactured cars in Illinois Central and the other two have a set of Metra cars I’m wondering if the two cars from the St. Louis car company were built for the Illinois central originally and I’m curious of the origins of the two bombardier cars
Those trains are Highliners, not trolleys.
Ok and? The event was called Trolley Weekend.
@@NYTrainzchaser I'm just being light hearted on it. Nothing too serious
Nice documentation of the IRM events.
20:14 I never heard a horn on a CTA El car before, and this one is more like a buzzer.
Awesome video! I didn't even know the highliners were in running condition!
Thanks!
@@NYTrainzchaser np your vids are great
I hope the highliners run again next year
:)
The whistle on that blue CA&E CAR sounds the same as the Los Angeles Metro Subway Cars on their Red and Purple subway lines.
I did not know they had working highliners!
My special needs son loves the Illinois Railway 🛤 Museum! He has a dvd 📀 about it from Railway Productions and he thinks that antique streetcars 🚊 and interurbans are highly underrated forms of public transportation and all should be preserved, restored, and put back into service carrying passengers in city streets and between cities just like they use to. And the North Shore Line and the Chicago, Aurora, & Elgin should be rebuilt and used again but he does not want that to be wishful thinking he wants it to be a reality!
Did C.A.& E utilize trolly poles or 3rd rail pick up to power them or was it both? Just wondering. Have a blessed day everyone
They used both.
Trolley Weekend At IRM.
Which axles on 1630 are blind?
Your my hero!! Thank you for making this video as I couldn't get over there to check out the metra action
Thomas is coming soon >:D
Oh really?
CA&E 460 looks terrific and the video could have been shot 60 years ago somewhere west of Wheaton before the sprawl.
i have a beautiful HO Scale Model of the Green Hornet Streetcar
0:27 those gates came down too late.
My name is Ethan Armitage.
