14: The way I intend to use mine, which is in a double 4CM with 2 real amps for Clean and Drive, with main output use for studio monitors, secondary output on a pair of FRFR Cab, with SPDIF to receive audio from another modeler, and USB directly connected to the computer to use the fractal as audio interface… and MIDI connected to some 3rd party amps and gear. So with 2 cabs and the 2 FRFR, I could pretty much build a Wet/Clean/Drive/Wet rig… Pres effects such drives, wah, etc… would be from both some midi controlled pedals and eventually some effects of the Fractal, the post-preamp wet effects would be from the fractal, and the acoustic line running on a different modelers could still be recorded through the SPDIF input… I know that looks super complicated but it’s gonna be a studio setup that I will setup once and then never unplug/plug, never move and probably never change (beside swapping some effects for others), but the whole routing will stay the same for every preset… just turning on/off some loop to select the type of preamp/amp for the different tones… My Two-Rock for cleans, the Dr Z for my Crunch, and the Diezel for my High-gain… with the Diezel being midi controlled to select the presets with right settings…. It works, but I always wondered if I'm missing out not plugging the axe FX into an interface, then the interface to my computer. Does anyone know if I could record wet signal and dry signal simultaneously going from axeFX USB to my laptop USB only?
All I want to do is play through two amps. I want to have the amp Sims on to work with my amps. I still haven't decided whether to leave it to the back of the return of the amps or just put it in front input of the amps and use my pre-amp section of my amps. For now I have it going in back of the return of the amps avoiding the preamp section. I have it set up that it's going out of output one. I tried copying the output one, two, to output three. I even set it up where I did put an output 3 block before the cab. The problem is I wanted us to be all on global settings. When I try to use output three without putting the output 3 block it gave me a dry signal. I just wish there was a global setting where I can plan the best of both worlds without having put additional blocks in the chain, and all I have to do is just turn off the cab Sims and power amps on global settings.
Really excellent and useful video.I just ordered the AXE-FX III and wondered if I wouldn't need any more than the usb connected to carry audio into the computer for recording into Cubase then out to my RME UCX II interface. That would be incredibly simple and convenient.Thanks.
Yes, a USB cable connecting your Axe-Fx III to your computer is all you need. Just choose the FX3 as your input device in Cubase. It maps to Inputs 1&2.
When going from Axe fx iii into a fryette power station, can you use a quarter inch cable & just the Left Output 3 > into the power amp? will the axe fx know to send a mono signal?
I'd use the FX return, that way it bypasses the Vetta's pre-amp. Turn off all modeling on the Vetta and you should be good to go. No need for an fx loop. Have fun!
I am hooking up a Synergy Syn-2 with Z-wreck and SLO modules. I was told to use a 4CM method, but looks like you are actually showing a Syn-2 in the adding outboard gear example as a single insert in channel 3. I will mainly be using the Syn-2 as my preamp, though would like to maintain ability to run through AxeFx-3 normally. Would my best setup be: Gtr -> AxeFx input -> custom presets would have pre fx -> AxeFx out 3 -> Syn-2 main in/out -> AxeFx in 3 -> post amp (normal fx loop) -> AxeFx main out 1? Should I then have ch 3 of AxeFx set fully clockwise for unity gain and control from Syn-2? Is there a way to add within AxeFx 3, after Syn-2 and traditional loop fx, just power amp modeling from the Axe’s amps before adding a cab block?
