Does it discern speakers in a transcription? As in what person 1 said and what person 2 said? Or is it using the whisper api where it can't do that? If so, the transcribe option is going to require a lot of extra work to have corrected manually.
Good video, but for me a few questions were not answered. 1) Do you need to use the "PAID" ChatGPT? or can you use your own ChatGPT API key? 2) can this be used in a lecture environment, when you are not close to the speaker and others may make sounds during the lecture? 3) And this is a big one, Can you transfer the recordings and the transcriptions (including the ChatGPT output) on to your PC so you can view edit etc in something like MS Word?
It's to be noted that at no point in this video is it mentioned that the transcription and ChatGPT functions - the main features of this device - are not free and require a $9.99 monthly subscription fee... "While we strive to provide the best AI services at competitive prices, the costs of AI computing and R&D can be significant. Therefore, we charge a fair price to compensate for these expenses. However, we are committed to making our services more affordable as we continue to evolve with technology trends and expand our offerings over time." Caveat emptor.
Thanks for pointing this out. I was about to mention it. In fact, another video I watched on this device doesnʻt mention it either. Great presentation and examples Monty!
This will be great for use when visiting doctors or having important conversations where you need to remember critical facts. From a business perspective, MS Teams already records video and audio and it transcribes. I'm wondering if the next iteration of MS Voice Memos will have these features integrated into it.
Do you have to put the call on speaker phone to record it? I have a device that basically connects to my phone via bluetooth and records the audio from other end and my voice through it, basically allowing me to speak without being on speaker phone, im hoping Plaud can do that?
Alternatively you could just record on your phone straight away and send it into Notion where you have more control of how the auto transcribe is worked on by GPT . Plus, its already saved in your organizer.
Nice solution! but I believe all transcription and conversion with ChatGPT is conducted in the cloud. Consequently, one must exercise caution, as their conversations may no longer remain "private." This is especially critical when handling sensitive information. For instance, discussing patient data, as I noticed in a doctor's examination report comment, would not be advisable.
So the voice-to-text function does NOT happen within the device itself? Any voice files need to go to the cloud to be transcribed and then sent back to device as a text file? Does software do the transcribing or is there a panel of humans who actually doth transcribing? Is the $10 monthly subscription required because the voice-to-text functionality can not be completed on the device itself? Are there any devices where voice-to-text is actually completed on the device without extra fees or use of the internet in any way?
Very impressive device. I just ordered one. You did a great job on demoing the product. Thanks for making this review available for us! BTW, in the background of your video, there's a huge display behind you. WHat device is that??
impressive device? its just mic with storage and small battery. everything is doing smartphone thru app. if they modify the app to set any hw button on your phone to start recording it would be much better, but then they cant announce it as chagpt device, which is in reality not :)))
Very interesting! I would love to use this in meetings and then use it to write my meeting minutes. Much easier than taking notes! I just ordered one...
However you can’t record calls from within your phone. And you can’t be stealth when recording with your phone. I use their past version iZYREC and it’s my main EDC, daily use, and then I upload audio to otter. It’s a productivity game changer
Thanks. Excellent video and good real world testing. I could not find the Plaud app on the Apple App store as yet. Were you using an advance version not yet available? Also I presume you are using an iPhone in your video?
Can you tell me how much app storage space it takes on your phone w/ transcriptions ? For example, I am loving CapCut but w/ videos stored it literally uses 190 of 256 of my phone storage. Thx!
Looks promising! Question though... I am an Forest Technologist who regularly assesses trees and manually inputs the information in a Table on my iPad. Is there any way I can get the transcriber to do this? Also is there a way I can check my notes during the who assessment? Hope to hear back! Thanks!
Each recording is broken down and transcribed. you would need to record each part individually if you want to go back and check. It wont be able to put it into a table for you.
I like the software function (though I get worried in places like California that require telling people they're being recorded), but I don't understand why I need the device if my phone is required. Why not just use the software and the audio recording functions on my phone without a second device?
Does the device have to be fixed to the back of your phone to record a phone call from the phone or can it be placed on a desk and record a phone call at the same time once switched on.
Interesting gadget and a good video tx! I am still wondering how the phone recording works... Does it record the sound from your phone's speaker or is it performed digitally on the phone? How does it know when the phone call starts.
@@InsideWire That's not true... It picks up the sound from Inside the phone by the vibration of the speakers... If you're going to provide a shill 'review' you should probably get your facts right...
Good revuew. 1. After the free 3 month period does one need the ChatGPT paid version or can one use it with the free one? 2. How clear is the cellphone recording can you do a demo showing both sides of a conversation for the one on the website isnt clear? You didnt show that 3. If one doesnt want to take their subscription and use ones existing chatGPT corporate account for transcription is that possible after the 1st year? 4. What languages does it support? Does it support the Indian language Hindi, Tamil and Kannada for transcription? 5. Does it do live transcribe of these languages to english?
Thank You No, I prefer processing my meeting recordings on my devices! Really they could have integrated on device transcription and simple NLP to get the few important points.
I got one in and I think the audio is terrible , I put it back In the box. I will not even regift it. For the price (got min free as an influencer) it should have better audio in my opinion

a really nice feature to have in this would be suggestions. for instance, when Plaud is recording a conversation, you can prompt ChatGPT to give either a smart response or a normal response to the person or persons questions. ChatGPT would then spit out different lines based on your prompts.
I'm confused, they want you to pay two hundred quid for hardware that just uses software you can use on its own anyway without the hardware? Why not just use the software and save the money?
Here's a red flag: Indigogo info says, "The project team has not yet produced a working demo for their concept." What is the dude in this VIDEO fiddling around with?
It's not worth it unless you're in school or are in business meetings daily, and the subscription fee is way too expensive. $2.99 would be ok for everyday people.

I'm interested in these answers too. But 8 months later, doesn't look promising. Did you manage to find out?

Thank you sir, god bless your soul!
I was thinking about getting it but $10 a month seems kind of steep if you're only going to use it every once in awhile...
And it's "only" 600 minutes of recordings, once you're above the 600 minutes it costs additional 1,5$ per 60 minutes
Your videos are very well-made. subscribed!
Thank you for your kind words 😁

@tralalak4444 how cam you record phone calls using you phone? What app let's you transcribe a recorded message?
@@CRAZY6256 samsung has native app for recording voice calls, you just need to change "id" of your phone for non eu/us region.
did you get it? is it any good? :D

@@InsideWire So you are paying 9.99 a month for it?
The ChatGPT transcription feature costs $9.99 a month - otherwise the product is just a voice recorder which you can do for free on your phone.....

I did have early access to app and yes it is an iPhone.
Thank you! This is really amazing.
You're very welcome!
Hi. Would this device record any audio calls: WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, Viber etc.?
I'm confused, this product is not released yet, how do you have it?
The company send it to me to review.

You can export the audio easily.

Does it need to be connected to the Internet or cell phone data to transcribe?
Must it be paired to phone to record? Is it dependent on the phones microphones?
Yes it Depends on the phone
LOL no it doesn’t cmon. It doesn’t need the phones microphone. It is a standalone recorder @insidewire how did you get that wrong
@@InsideWire seriously? Haha it’s an independent recorder! It doesn’t rely on the phone’s microphones at all
Sounds better than you'd expect from something so thin
I was impressed, specially with the AI cancellation as the noise was very loud.

Yes
Thanks, does the device segregate records from both sides?
Can we use the app on apple watch. It would be really productive if thats possible.
does it work with headphones?
Does the device have to be fixed to the back of your phone to record a phone call from the phone or can it be placed on a desk and record a phone call at the same time once switched on.
No. That's just a convenience so it's easier to carry. Device works standalone.
Good video!
Great review! (but what's up with the pervy phallic neon stuff back there lol)
