  • The WIPO Broadcasting Treaty: Possible Amendments, A presentation by Professor Bernt Hugenholtz, University of Amsterdam to the fall meetings of the Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP) at American University.
The Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR) of the World Intellectual Property Organization is continuing to discuss a possible Treaty on the Protection of Broadcasting Organizations. The draft treaty, which has featured high on the Committee’s agenda since its inception in 1998, would offer international protection to broadcasting organizations against unauthorized retransmission and related uses. Despite many years of discussion, stern opposition, countless redrafts and political setbacks, the controversial treaty project has never been abandoned.
In this presentation for PIJIP, Professor Bernt Hugenholtz presents a set of possible amendments to the current Chair’s Third Revised Draft of the Broadcasting Treaty. The proposed amendments will conform with his views in "The WIPO Broadcasting Treaty: Comments on the Second Revised Draft" (2023). See: digitalcommons...
The Program on Information Justice and Intellectual Property (PIJIP) is the internationally recognized intellectual property and information law research and academic program of American University Washington College of Law.
