I'm glad I gave you the opportunity to have fun. I can't but agree with you on the tamping, I later moved to a double spout portafilter. Also, I stopped hitting the portafilter, as I learned that it produces more damages (fracture in the coffee pot) than advantages (less coffee on the borders of the filter). BTW, I'm no chief, chief...
A bit of advice: keep the portafilter locked in at all times; you want the group head temp. stable, and the portafilter helps achieve this. Portafilters like to be away from the group as little as humanly possible.
ChrisCoffee and 1st-Line say the Rancilio PF fits perfectly. Any standard E61 PF should work but the Rancilio is a good value over the other branded models. ChrisCoffee offers the Rancilio bottomless with a LM triple basket for 59.95.
thanks! this is the single boiler, no hx. the pid would actually be a great value. i don't know if LM portafilters fit in this one, sorry. if you find out let me know, i'm interested in a naked too :)
The pf had been locked in for a couple of hours, so was quite hot. I've just turn down the pressure setting the OPV to 9 bars. The first shot didn't show any particular improvement, but part of the puck got stuck on the shower screen for the first time. I'll check again tomorrow morning
I intend to buy myself one of these magnificent machines as a Christmas present to myself. Can I ask where you bought the plastic collar to fit into the group handle when grinding? Excellent idea.
I am very new with VBM and see the same pressure issue. Should it be 9bar ? the pressure sensor is in the boiler not in the group.. IMHO it should be measured 9bars at the group, shouldn't it ?
@Radguy150 I think it would do a great xmas present :) The collar was very cheap: I made it myself by cutting off the base of a plastic glass. It's that easy
Nice vid. I'm considering this machine. Nice score too! Is this the standard heat exchanger model? I'm thinking of throwing down the extra $100 for the PID Double Boiler model. Also, do you know if the La Marzocco PF fit these with no problem? Want to get a bottomless PF and Vibiemme doesn't offer their own.
Well, I found this beauty for less than half the original price, brand new, near home. It was a no-brain! I love the e61 group and the preinfusion. Regarding the PL51, it is indeed a great machine, especially for the price. But if you live in the Caribbean, it would cost A LOT to send it there, don't you think? Kind of blue would be a great bg music. Although I'm experiencing some copyright problems, especially in Germany...
The Vibiemme does not have an E61 grouphead, it was however designed by the same creator of the E61 grouphead. The VBM grouphead has some minor differences and you won't fit a VBM portafilter in a standard E61 grouphead. And I am glad to read that you now use a double portafilter, don't knock it with your tamper anymore, heat the portafilter and tamp straight these days :) Aren't we all a bunch of autists? Espresso savants, I love it.

One question: is it worth putting a water softener in the tank?
No.

I found that out after taking this video and corrected the pressure accordingly.
But thanks anyway for your advice!

Nice upgrade. More forgiving than the PL51.

@Jabbawack THanks.
Where did you get the plastic collar from that you used when grinding?
@olekike Cool indeed: Miles Davis gave birth to 'cool jazz'. The song is "It never entered my mind"

Hi, what espresso grinder would you recommend for the Wibiemme domobar manual Espresso machine, please? T h a n k you.
Why did you upgrade from the PL51 ?
If you still have it, I would be interested...
For your next clip, I vote for something kind of blue...
Do you still own and enjoy the Lelit PL43 grinder?
Yep, still enjoying!
After 8 year, still enjoying? 😜
