- TWO YEARS IN THE MAKING!
The Buffalo Naval Park is so proud and excited to let you know that
we've received assistance from Federal, State, County, City officials,
and they helped fill the financial gap. Our organization now has enough money to take USS The Sullivans and USS Croaker to dry dock.
We've also raised thousands, and thousands of dollars from supporters like you!
Thank you so very much!

As a proud volunteer of USS NEW JERSEY , I am sending lots of encouragement and love on behalf of my fellow volunteers for sure. I’m proud to have volunteered if only for a day at the Naval Park a while back when visiting. I take it as a good omen when last Saturday I received a USS Sullivan’s Sticker from Libby, one of the awesome staff on NEW JERSEY.
Missed you all when you were in the dry dock to visit New Jersey, hope to be able to see USS THE SULLIVANS and support that work when in dry dock! Its good to see that our governments can still do good by supporting great things.
Thanks tonyinPA...All of the BNJ volunteers like yourself made her dry dock a qualified success! The museum ship world is unlike any other museum world I've been involved with! Wish us the luck of the Irish with that sticker!
Fantastic news 👏.
Sure is. Thanks for watching. Hope you check back for updates!
Great news! It's inspiring to know that people still care about preserving history from rot and rust
Yes, we are so thankful to people like yourself who care, crazywarriorscatfan9061!
The plight of The Sullivans brought so much attention to the drydocking and preservation of museum ships. Between her and Texas the world at large saw what can happen to historic vessels when mother nature and father time battle their staff and funding. Texas now has a safe future with dry bilges ahead of her, glad The Sullivans is finally heading that way too.
Agreed crazyguy32100. Our mishap brought a light to these ships. Many ships\boats started planning their dry docks before the sinking, but no doubt it sparked a little flame underneath each of them. As little flame was quite a bit larger. Thanks for your continued support!
Good to hear… congratulations
Thank you donkeyboy585. Appreciate your continued support!
That's fabulous news!!! Keep us updated please!
Of course we'll be bringing you plenty of updates as we have them!
*_WOW! I'm no fan of hochl but the USS Sullivans deserves this no matter where the $$$ comes from. This is really great news!!_*
It's our tax money not hochl's she just did it for the publicity. That being said I'm glad our tax money finally went to good use.
@@chevyfan82 I bet it was a petty FU aimed at Gov Murphy since the amount was double what NJ gave 62 for drydock.
It is great news, and we're definitely grateful!
Ditto. Good on her.
Wow that's great. Lets hope for the best during dry dock...
We'll make sure of it through deliberate conversations, and competent work! Thank you!
This is indeed wonderful news.
Thanks so much for your support! Wonderful news indeed!
Congratulations guys. Great job
Appreciate it, greg! Thanks!
Congrats from Texas.
A note of thanks from Buffalo, NY! Appreciate it!
Great news! First New Jersey, then Kidd and now The Sullivans.
Don't forget the Texas
Thank you! And Cobia as well - SS245, Croaker's (SS246) sister ship built side by side in Groton!
Agreed!
Congratulations guys! I was seriously worried that The Sullivans' would be lost after her flooding incident. I pray that any surprises you find as you take your Ladies through this process are pleasant ones.
Thank you robertf3479! We shared your concerns as well! The only true restoration to secure the ships is a dry dock! Thanks for watching!
Great I can't wait to see when she home and updated
Thanks for watching, oofwhop716! Make sure you come on down when they're ready to leave too! Great footage - and the last we'll have in our lifetimes (probably!)
Good to hear!
Thank you. A long time coming, but she'll live to tell her stories to future generations!
AWESOME!!! ⚓
Thank you, we're excited - and now the work begins!!
a great way to teach the young ones about the real American idols.
Agreed! Thanks denpobedy7881...eventually they will be the last remaining veterans of WWII.
Awesome!
Thumbs up, thanks!
Good money well spent
Agreed! To have her stable, water tight, and ship shape for another 80 years makes us all glad! Thank you!!
Awesome news! I'm a history buff. Seeing these old ships get restored is great.
Thanks so much, brian...and you can be there every step of the way as this work begins!
That's great! So glad that the ship can be fully repaired and preserved!!
Thank you ronald2350! Appreciate your support, and looking forward to having her back in ship shape!
My father served as a signalman 2nd in WWII. As a Waterloo, IA native he did not know the family but knew of them.
Thanks for watching! There are videos on our channel when Steven and I visited the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum. What an important story, and I'm sure your father was familiar with how the story of the brothers deaths spread through Waterloo.
Drydocking is the *key* to long-term survival of these museum ships: awesome job!! Happy to support the initiative and hope to see a lot of videos and information on the drydocking as it proceeds!
Thanks for your support mattblom3990! You'll be with us every step of the way!
Erie has a huge dry dock and it’s not far away!
Agreed...Don Jon is one of the docks we've been working with over the past year or so. Now, conversations with all three will continue in earnest! Thanks!
Congrats!!! After seeing her settled, deck awash a few years ago, and fearing the worst, this is fantastic news!! Well done!!! Looking forward to seeing the process.
We all feared the worst too! There was a lot of "hit and miss" days during the pumping and raising of her those two years ago! Thanks for your support, and we'll be bringing you the process every step of the way!
Yeah. This is great news for preserving the past.
Agreed, amnucc...appreciate your continued support, and you'll be with us every step of the way!
Wooooo!
Echos through the canyons - - - right back at you!
Maybe we get another Drac in the drydock? Great work guys and gals. Thanks for taking care of our history.
Thanks sounds like a great plan! On the live session, someone suggested Draco and Paul from the Cod as color commentators! Thanks for your support!
Ryan from USS New Jersey sent me. Looking forward to the Future of all these amazing museum ships
Thanks for tuning in, mshafer2006. Appreciate your support for all the museum ships - they all have important stories to tell!
I guess you are cataloging all those blueprints sooner than you planned, huh Shane? :) Great news!
Ha! Good thought, Bryce! It's is in my Curatorial scope of work for sure. A lot to do!! Any help is greatly appreciated, ; )
This is fantastic news!!!! Thank you to everyone who donated to this!! You’re helping preserve history for years to come and I’m extremely grateful!!!
Thank you, and we're extremely grateful to the NYS delegation that stepped up to help - along with the thousands of contributors as well!
That's great news! Everyone at the Naval Park worked hard for this, now you all get to work even harder! 😝
You hit the nail on the head for sure, NoewerrATall! Quite true, and we'll keep you updated with all of that hard work!
Great news that she can go to drydock now. I've been concerned that she might hit a ledge and founder again.
Thanks again, Kirk - with the dredging that will need to be done in the Buffalo river, that work should give both her and Croaker more space to clear any riverbed issues!
Congrats, guys!!! Best wishes from your friends at the March Field Air Museum in Riverside, California. Those of us in the historic preservation business gotta stick together!
Agreed! We stick together with you as well! All of these ships, boats, and planes have such stories to tell - their missions, the people...Thank you for your support!
Bravo Zulu, everyone. We're getting our old girl, BB-35, all gussied up, glad to hear The Sullivans is going to get the royal treatment as well. Preserving our history!
Congratulations on all of the work done with BB35, sounds like you've participated so thank you for being part of the museum ship community! Appreciate your well wishes!
@@BuffaloNavalPark In a small way. Our gaming organization has raised money for the USS Texas over the years, and spent the night aboard/done hardhat tours on many occasions.
One summer, a bunch of us worked the concession stands at our local baseball park - The Dell Diamond - and donated all the wages to BB-35. The ball park had that program for years, they didn't have to pay taxes, and non-profits reaped the benefits!
We even helped one of the ship's staff send his girlfriend on an "Amazing Race" across Houston that ended with them getting engaged.
It's a drop in the bucket to what BB-35 needs financially, but it was an honor to help in our own small way. Plus, we got to hoist the colors along with our own organizational flag when we were aboard. One of the early members of the color party ended up joining the Navy, and just ETS'd as a RPCS. His time on the Texas with our group put him ahead on Naval customs, courtesies, and knowledge in boot.
Ah, to be young again.
Great to hear! Thanks for your continued support of our community!
Keep those ships great Buffalo naval park is a amazing piece of history and makes the waterfront of Buffalo better
Thanks so much for your words of encouragement, and support!
Such wonderful news....Congratulations!!!
Thanks for all your continued support, rclooking99! Thumbs up!
I’m still angry at Hochul for cancelling congestion pricing, but I’ll give credit where it’s due. This is a good thing and I’m very glad you’ll get to go to drydock.
Thanks michaelimbers2314. Appreciate your support, the Governor definitely came through - along with our local delegation.
Outstanding! It is great to see that people have realized the importance of keeping these ships around. Looking forward to see the process going forward. Congratulations to y'all!
Appreciate it, michaelphillips8238! Thanks for your continued support throughout the life of our channel, and all the updates...you'll be getting more!
Great news Shane - so happy for you all up there!
Thanks for your continued support and visit, Gary!
That's fantastic news, and very exciting!
Awesome, Jeff...thank's for being there every step of the way!
This is fantastic news.
Agreed...a big sigh of relief for sure! Thanks!
Such great news.
Thanks bobuncle8704! Appreciate your support!
So thrilled to hear this news.
Thanks so much norcaldeemichaels! Appreciate you checking in!
The greatest thing you saving these ships because the way the mess in the world is going we mite need these greatest vessels to save us again.
Good thought, but our ships and boat wouldn't do much damage against today's belligerent navies. But, if all the electronics got knocked out a la the "Battleship" movie then...
This is outstanding news!
I'm surprised it's been 2 years.
Some of the longest two years of my life for sure! Thanks for watching!
Bravo Zulu !! Great news !!
Agreed, spaceghostohio7989! Thanks for checking back in and appreciate your support!
I have been there a couple of times. This is great news to hear. I'm happy to hear the Sullivans and the Croaker will be drydocked. Good job to all for your efforts, and good luck on your future endeavors.
Appreciate you visiting, beboy12003, and thanks for your support...we'll keep you and other posted!
Dry docking was always the best and least expensive option. Too many OLD salts who gave zero money objected.
Great news! I can’t wait to see the progress.
We'll be giving you and everyone a front row seat!
Celebrating. Great news!!!
Thumbs up, russellcollins52!
Ask Texas and New Jersey, now the work really begins. New Jersey was really smart to leverage opportunities to raise money through rides and tours. Good luck.
Thanks! We're discussing dry dock tours as part of the negotiating package. It was an amazing fundraising opportunity for both Texas and New Jersey for sure!
Congratulations Shane and the team 🎉🎉 I'm overseas viewer and longtime subscriber it's awsome the sullivans is getting dry docked and repaired. can't wait for the videos
Misterfishface, thank you so much for your continued support from afar! So grateful that we have a small contingent of supports around the world! You'll be kept in the loop! Appreciate it!
Awesome news!
Thanks for your continued support, panachevitz! You'll be able to (virtually) tag along for the ride!
On the 1MC...."Now,, all hands to the Cosmolene buckets.....if it doesn't walk, coat it....if it walks, give 'em a brush!" Old Snipes will love this news!
Ha! Thanks so much Paul. The 1MC will be in high demand during and after the dry docking!
😀
Wonderful news! Congratulations to you all, and thank you for your hard work!
Thanks pedenharley6266. Appreciate your continued support, and yes - now the work begins to come full circle from the April 2022 sinking.
I will say this is awesome news!
Awesome indeed! Thanks so much!
Great job guys! I hope everything goes smoothly. 👍
Thank you, Paul. Will be working hard and competently to make sure that everything does go smoothly!
This is wonderful news! I hope you bring her to Erie and let Don Jon fix her up. They did a great job on U.S.S. Cod!
Thanks sjoeld57. That is one of the dry docks under serious consideration. We'll see...and The Sullivans and Croaker will have a new home in Erie, PA for many months!
best of luck with your new excursion Ryan can help you from BB 62 New Jersey
I've rustled up help (in the form of a detailed survey) from New Jersey, Texas, Kidd, Cobia and Cod. They've all been quite beneficial and helpful!
Great news!!!!
Agreed! Thanks for watching, and we'll keep everyone updated!
Well I just finished a model of her as she looks now but looks like I'll need to build my 1/700 scale model of The Sullivans in her as delivered fit. It'll slide right into a drydock display base in honor of her getting the work she and Croaker need. BZ guys, cant wait to see her back in "fighting" form.
DanielMcCool95, thanks for your support and constructing a model of DD537! So much passion out there for the ship! I'm working to get her back into her 1954 - 1965 configuration with the three 3"50s...two twins on the waist between the stacks and one on the aft superstructure. Of course, Mt 53 should also be removed. Along with the Mk 32 triple torpedo launchers she will be good to go back in 1962!
Great Job guys. Congratulations.
Thanks eddie_wolf...appreciate your support!
Well, I'm glad the governor did something to make people smile for a change. I hope people realize how great this news is. This is great news!
Thanks so much, big smiles for sure, and can't thank the Albany delegation enough!
Great news guys about the Drydock funding being fully achieved through all the generous donations.
P.S. All going well, I'm looking at popping over next year with the family for a visit to several US Cities / locations & I've got Buffalo earmarked as one of the stops on our itinerary.
Thanks for your continued support, Chopper!! Glad you can join us during your workday (probably!) Can't wait to meet you and the family next year! Looking forward to it!
I saw and took some pictures of the U.S.S Texas in dry dock.
Must have been a sight to see her in a floating dry dock! Glad you experienced it!
@@BuffaloNavalPark I also have some pictures in my Facebook
Really great news!
Very truly yes, bjturon. Thanks for your support!
Fantastic news! Shows that It takes a lot of people and à lot of work. Looking forward to visiting. Hopefully before and after ! 😀
Thanks so much for any visits, stevencote6999! Appreciate your support!
HYPE IT UP PEOPLE!!!!!! 😆
Will do, lightspeedvictory!
I LOVE museum ships because history matters and the sacrifices of men and women that fought to preserve our freedoms and future. I will say though is not every ship should be saved and that these warships weren’t meant to last forever. Metal rusts, wood rots, and nature always wins. End of the day the more important thing then the actual ship is education about the ship and its namesakes.
Couldn't say it any better, tarn1135! Appreciate your kind words, and that you have an inherent understanding of these soon to be "last veterans remaining" from WWII!
I assume this is fantastic news.
Yes, I would agree with you, lonnyyoung4285.
The USS The Sullivans is 81 years old and as is the Croaker
Here's a suggestion. See if Wargaming will make a model of The Sullivans for World of Warships. Players like myself would buy the ship if some of the proceeds went to aid the dry docking of The Sullivans.
That is a very good idea. I'll have to do more research into that suggestion. Don't know why she can't be bought in the game already!
Awesome congratulations to the ships keep us up to date on progress, unlike Texas 😂.
Oh, no Texas bashing! I thought the crew did a great job! And we'll do the same! Thanks for your support!
@@BuffaloNavalPark not bashing just wish they had more videos on how the ship is coming.
Amazing Kathy Hokel? did some thing Good WoW.
She's just pulling her usual tricks to make herself look good. Remember after all it's our tax money being used which I'm okay with it's better than giving it to illegals.
We're appreciative of her support in this endeavor!
Glad the NY gov finally ponied up to help. It's about time you guys get this assistance from the Empire State with their multiple of money streams and deep pockets. Maybe the governess will fix the roads to get there, too. 😅
Thanks jebllos1. We are grateful of the NYS delegation, including the Governor, for stepping up. These ships are so important as a teaching tool and will soon be the last remaining WW2 vets! Appreciate your support!
5:50 ...🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thumbs up!
I gotta go back up there before the 2 leave for drydock
thanks carol7311! Come on up when you can...and maybe WHILE they're leaving for dry dock. That could be fun.
Shane, I am still working on getting my back straight, but if you need more money, for any of the ships, but especially DD537. Please let me know and I will donate whatever I can come up with.
Hi Kirk - You've been such a great support already, and I'm sorry that after this long your back is still giving you daily trouble! Donations are certainly welcomed, but there is also a lot of time. We plan on going to dry dock in Sept\Oct 2025, and we'll definitely be rolling out the carpet!
I will do whatever I can do before then. I cracked 2 vertebrates, it is going to take a while to heal
Send to Erie pa it is near by they did the cod
That's one of the places on our short list for sure. We liked the work they did with Cod! Thank you!
Just curious. What about insurance? Wasn't it a temp repair to get it refloated?
Yes, all of the repairs were temporary - along with the winter survivability plan. We have a new insurance company - a very long process as one can imagine after a disaster like this. She's again fully insured, and this gives them more piece of mind!
Must be an election year !
Either way, we're happy for the governor's support!
Hurray. It must be an election year
If that's what it took, we're definitely the proud recipients! Thanks for watching!
@@BuffaloNavalPark FYI the double ended whaleboat came from my dad. By way of anchor welding you bought it at my dad's auction
Thanks for sharing! Appreciate it!
USS New Jersey drydocking cost $10 Million and the USS Cod's $1.4 Million. Why so expensive you needed $21 Million for a smaller ship and comparable submarine?
Thanks for watching. Because of the nesting position of The Sullivans and Croaker that makes up about $7 - $8 million. As mentioned in previous videos, we need to dredge the river, move USS Little Rock into the river and then out of the way, dredge more, removed two bumper\mooring pylons that are buried about 15 ft into the river bed, dredge again on port side of Croaker and The Sullivans, and then we can begin the tow. Hope that helps!
What shipyard are you going to dry dock at?
As of now, we've been in preliminary talks with three different docks in Toledo, OH, Erie PA, and Port Weller, Canada. More in depth conversations will be taking place to decide on one of these. Thanks for watching!
So……it was basically government agencies footing the bill, not the public? Glad she’s going to get that desperately needed maintenance.
Appreciate it, fw1421. We had a lot of contributions from people that love museum ships all over the globe too. That helped with putting in place a winter survivability plan.
Make sure you remove any artifacts! Ship Yard people are famous for having sticky fingers! The Park is going to get The Sullivans into great shape! TM retired but likes historic Naval Ships
Thanks so much, and agreed - we heard this from all of the ships that have recently gone to dry dock! Better to be safe than sorry! Appreciate your support!
Is the dry dock permanent
Thanks for watching. Not permanent. Enough to replace steel on hull and other work, and then to be brought back to Buffalo.
that was 2 years ago???
April 2022. It's been a long time coming, but we now can move from a stabilization plan to a restoration plan and that makes me quite happy!
@@BuffaloNavalPark 👍
Please forgive my cynicism, but what Catch has hochul put on the funds? She wouldn't just cough-up that amount without there being provisions on it?
What has she demanded?
I have not heard any strings attached to this money other than the traditional oversight and auditing procedures.
BZ...
Thanks so much, shawnwinter4094.
Considering how much NY wastes our tax dollars on bottomless pits, this is actually very useful. As a NY state resident, I'm happy. Still won't ever vote for Hochul.
We're just happy that she helped us out and got us across the finish line! Now, the work can begin to restore the ship to her former glory!
why was upkeep ignored for so long
It's what affects every ship - changes in weather, staffing issues, for 40 years the prior crews did what they could with what they had!
Still will not vote for her!!
Ha!
Second that ! She never won anyways look at the election numbers across the state only the blue cities that demonrats control showed her with wins. You can't get around 40% of vote across the state and then pow dem led cities she gets 70% or like Queens 93% yeah that election fraud. I'm glad the Sullivan's is getting fixed up with our tax money better then giving it all away to those illegals that Hochul and Schumer love giving our hard earned money to rather then it's own citizens.
Big Boy could of paid for all of it on what he spent on Tats and earrings....
Oh man...who's that? Steven?? : )
Awesome!
Appreciate your thoughts, Mountain-Man-3000!
