I had a grey 2012. After being t boneed at an Intersection, The insurance company totaled it.... But during the year I had it, It had appreciated $9000. Never had a car do that before. Needless to say I did not hesitate in buying another one.
My 07 is from Michigan. The undercarriage is great. Very little surface rust and I'm painting the whole frame, just in case. Not all rustbelt FJ's are rusty. It's svery solid with good lines. No rattles and tight.
@@scootypuffjr. That's funny, i just bought some the other day and sprayed a couple areas until i can paint it. i think if I prepare it well with some Rustoleum it will stop the rust. I dont; know why it woudnt work. I've used it for years on other outdoor metals. My plan was to paint it and then spray it with the Fluid film. i have heard good things about the fluid film but it's a mess to put on and clean. I mean it sprays on easy but it got all over my garge floor. i had to use a good grease buster and pinesol to rmove it. It's a dripping mess too. However, it must work.
@@jackempson3044 unless you are disassembling and sandblasting the entire chassis and suspension and coating with epoxy primer and then a 2k top coat, paint is useless on a chassis. Cheap paint will trap moisture and make it rust worse. I'm a 30+ year body tech in Iowa. I know rust.
I just subscribed. I have waited a long time for a video that shows the Toyota recall undercoating process. Thank you in advance. The FJ is not for everyone. Most folks would opt for a 4Runner. Just more features for the buck. More roomy, retractable back window, 4 doors, 2 wipers. Much more market availability as well. But the FJ is a distinctive vehicle - and stands out from the crowd.
FJ CRUISER for me not only stands out from the crowd but it was a very risky yet refreshing design exercise. I’m so glad to had the balls to produce it. You got it!! I appreciate that🙏🏻
Army Green my all time favorite too, that magma orange is not only kind of rare but also very nice in the flesh. Good choices 👍🏻 Thank you for your support, I appreciate you!
As long as the frame has been rustproofed over the years your good to go.Just had my 2013 fj Cavalry Blue rustproofed for the fourth time yesterday.Cheers.
Bought a 2010 trail teams with a manual transmission 3 days ago! Beautiful sandstorm color and 38k flat on the odometer. Had to fly down to Florida for this bad boy.
@@rogerp.h.4554 that’s honestly not bad, I saw someone selling a 2010 trail teams in manual for 33k and it had 70k miles. I’d say you paid what it’s worth for sure! 🙂
Wow I'm SO waiting for your video on frame coating.. I did mine (t4R) last Nov before the roads got messy.. I want to see how it's done really at a pro level to fix my own when i go in for a touch up this fall... Thank you ! Great video as always and thanks for your tips.
got my 2008 white n black trail teams fj and its a f*ckin dream so far. im 28 and when they first come out i fell in love with them (couldnt even drive yet) i have no idea why im so drawn to them but i finally have one and have a massive list of stuff i want to work on with it. super exciting. i appreciate all the warnings and what to look out for.
I considered buying one of these for a while. All the ones I looked at were pretty rusty since I live in Ohio.. My favorite color was the bright red color. I’ve only seen a few so it must be pretty rare and I think it only came on the Trail Teams trim. Ended up going with a 2019 4Runner TRD Pro in Voodoo Blue and absolutely love it!
That red one is pretty uncommon. Im right there with you, test drove and checked 4 FJ’s to then settling for my 4runner. I don’t regret that decision at all. Congrats on your TRD PRO 👏🏻👏🏻
i recently found one in marysville that lived in arizona all its life, i got underneath it and looked at the frame and almost screamed in excitement lol. had to keep it cool around the car salesman to get the price down a bit. the frame looked better than my 2017 wrangler that i traded it in for lol
Those are fairly uncommon around here, the cement gray that is. There used to be one that came fairly regularly but haven’t seen it in a couple of years.
@@VikingsGarage Hoping to buy one at the moment just under 100k. Internet sale and ship, lots of pics of the underbody. Hope it's a winner, very hard to find especially a stick🤘😎🤘
The FJ's in Ohio more often than not have severe frame rust issues. Be 100% sure the you get the frame fully inspected BEFORE buying. Regardless of the price and mileage, I have seen these frames rotting out. The driveline is bullet proof, such a shame the frames get so bad in the salt belt.
Thank you! Yup Michigan, lots of snow. We don’t offer it as a service, it’s ire like a recall deal. But there’s a few local companies that do it. On average about $750 job.
I like the blue, but that's just me. Like the crazy yellow/gold too and the white roof. That's what makes it an FJ. Windshield. Ever own a Jeep? Real Jeeps don't get detailed, real Jeeps have broken windshields. The FJs were retro- utilitarian by design. It's not a Range Rover. 2nd best car I ever owned, right after my 92 OBS C1500 that has, today, 476K original miles. The FJ is something you either totally love or totally hate. Don't think I'm evil cuz I totally love mine.

I bought a 2014 FJ yesterday. I have never been happier with any vehicle. Thank you for the information in this video. Subscribed.
Congratulations!!
Enjoy! 👊🏻
Had been looking at a beautiful 14' Army Green FJ. Thought I'd be driving it home, however, after putting it up on lift, i was dismayed at the rust.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Very smart move.
My FJJ is 2014 Magma, coolest color ever.

Use Fluid Film. Paint will do nothing.

@jackempson3044 paint is a waste of time on a chassis in the rust belt. Just Fluid Film it.

Yep. Got rid of my 07 FJ due to a fist sized hole in the frame near the rear spring mount. Didn't know there was a recall.
For the FJ’s there never was a recall for that. They sure get very crunchy.
I had a Voodoo Blue one but now I have a 2012 in Cavalry Blue. Might be my favorite FJ color. Or Army Green or the darker tan.
All great colors.

This is 100% correct, Toyota should have made them a bit more durable. The Frames that is. Thank you for watching
Cement grey
Is the amount of rust you showed on this car okay? Repairable?

Warhammer ultra marine.

Hi. The 4 I looked at had frame damage so severe that holes had developed. Sad, as the balance of the vehicle was good.
Worst of the damage seems back of the engine cradle and close to firewall.
I had a similar issue, went to look at a few and was terrible
Too bad they are rising in prices.
I know right! It’s crazy.
nothing is stolen from the old fj models its the same fj but newer and modern its a fj new generation and it has to be a little more modern
