- Surprise! Here’s another interview for ya’ll.
We’re delighted to bring you this interview with the wonderful KateJane Garside. Well known for her staggering voice and stunning stage presence, KatieJane has been involved in a number of musical projects since the late 80s, most notably the garage punk outfit Daisy Chainsaw in the early 90s and ferocious noise rockers Queenadreena from 99 to 2010. She subsequently went on to form Ruby Throat with her life partner Chris Whittingham, a much more subtle neofolk affair, before marrying the noise and the folk together with their latest album under the name Liar, Flower, called Geiger Counter.
We were lucky enough to catch KatieJane as she was on dry land, and she was kind enough to lend us a generous amount of her time so we could talk about her life and career. We cover everything from Daisy Chainsaw to the present day, digging into her life story, some of the things that make her tick as a musician and getting some pretty great tales in the process.
This is one for the books so we hope you folk enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it. We’re back next week with Mark’s choice of The Ugly Organ by Cursive.
Great interview
Fantastic interview. KJG was really open to answering the questions. Great discussion. 54:33 - Drink Me is my fav Queenadreena album. The sailing discussion is amazing. Loved hearing the sea talk. Thank you to all involved. I listened while working train graffiti books, so thank you for providing great listening material.
Katie Jane Garside, the most beautiful voice I have ever heard, and the most uniques songs ever composed
I played in a band who provided local support for QA in Glasgow, would have been 1999. I knew Katie from also having seen Daisy Chainsaw on The Chartshow a few years before but was still a bit too much of a musical pleb at the time to appreciate QA, Katie was nice, said hello to us before having us (very politely) expelled from the dressing room. She had an aura around her, same energy as on stage. The Crispin fellow was very 'London' and aloof. It's hard to imagine him working on sewage pipes. I spent a good part of that night hanging out with the drummer, Billy Freedom, smoking doobs while he told me stories about Sly Stone. He was a really nice guy.
She is mesmerizing, I'm all in.
I’m so happy someone finally did a longer interview with her
A true one-in-a-million type of artist. Daring, and makes decisions that are purely her own. I wish more people knew of her.
Yeah kids. Punk personified.
I love this interview with all my heart ♥
The most rich interview of Katie I've heard so far !
Furkin brilliant singer loved Daisy Chainsaw... 👍🏻🇬🇧❤️
Many thanks, - superb interview, superb artist
