Beautifully prayed & played by all and exceptionally well conducted. The great mystery of the Son of the Most High born to the humble Virgin Mary, is captured for the listener by this wonderful rendition.
One of America's premier-level choirs singing one of the great pieces by one of America's premier-level composers, led by a premier-level choral conductor.
I JUST LOVE this... some of the VERY BEST choral writing in the last 30 years are so... STILL... my THEE favorite of his (Lauridsen) is his "O nata lux"...

I can't understand why the St. Olaf choir is not more well known. They are really good. Lutherans, of course, seldom advocate for themselves unlike Mormons and fundamentalist Christians.
The secret to St. Olaf Choir's success is to get voices which blend. An operatic voice usually is too powerful. I learned this from my college roommate who was in the choir. ❤
Choir members have to sing out of a different energy level. Also opera singers should aim for this center.
As a lifelong choir singer I always blended with the singer on either side of me.Unless they were a Male then I belted my heart out.

Yes, during the final round of auditions, they have you sing in various formations with the other singers in your section to see how you blend. You can be the most amazing singer, but not fit into the St. Olaf Choir because you don't blend. There are "color" voices in each section, but the other voices are designed to blend with them.
How we long for the days when we can return to the glory and splendour of these wonderful coral works and big choirs in the meantime thank you for sharing this beautiful rendition of this sublime work with us Bravo Bravissimo very well done 👏

This piece moves me to the depth of my soul.
I sent this performance to my sister for Christmas, and she said she was convinced it was angels singing. Me, I think it needs more bass, especially on that LAST note (LOL). Well done St. Olaf's!!

My only critique is that when it gets into the peak of the sound, the crescendo was beautiful but then it never grew beyond a 3 of 4 when it needed to get to a 4. Otherwise very beautiful

Absolutely fab, piece of music, well done all. I listen to it and other pieces on here often, and very proud to know one of the Choristers, who was at Aberdeen University Scotland with me.

Lauridsen is most certainly one of my favorite choral composers ever. This and SURE ON THIS SHINING NIGHT always make me weep. This version is SUBLIME. St. Olaf YOU ROCK!
