I have pure 600s on 27 psi and I noticed driving every day I have no oil consumption but on a Friday race night if I do 12-15 hits on the car it will be a quart low on oil. No smoking all maintenance is on point with no leaks. It literally eats it
Gotta love turbos. They called the turbo 4 cylinder motor in the saab 9-3 a hot motor because of that. In the manual it recommends you check the oil often and add depending on how hard you drive.
Was using Castrol shampoo, got sick of put 1ltre every 6 weeks, changed to Liqui Moly Molygen 5w-40, now consumes zero oil, temp little cooler. Used Redline in the past, excellent oil , hard to get..
Absolutely deserve lots of love
When you where talking about oil consumption all I could think of is my m54b25 that killed a quart every 700 miles of normal driving lol. My 165k mile n54 is thankfully only leaking/using a quart every 5k miles. Which ain't bad. When the turbos get replaced I'll be doing my oil pan gasket and hopefully fix all my leaks.
Normal for engine to use oil when racing all day.
60 weight oil may trigger Vanos codes in cold weather but in your area you should be ok.
Interesting on the pulsing I wanna know more about it I want to get a trans cooler aswell
You could try Penrite 10 Tenths Premium 10W60 which has 100% PAO & ESTER base stock. Just try it- you could be surprised
look into your oil temp burn off. All oils have that spec to keep up with. remember your turbos can be 4 times hotter than the motor, plus rings allow blow by.
highly recommend going with a bit of a methanol setup if you’re worried about temps! methanol does wonders for the N54
I agree, did it on my n54 this year and it nailed the IATs down at ~30°C, so I get much less knock than before.
May not know any deals on them, but Dodson Clutches is supposed to be fantastic. Emelia managed to do a world record pass in her C8 Corvette with their clutches, and say they're good. Might be worth contacting them. I know they do clutches for a M3, so they might have clutches for you.
Dodson Motorsport I believe can help with the clutches.
In surprised you would be using the 10w-60 in winter time, not surprised you would do that in summer.
Jack the rear up higher than the front when filling too get that air out
JSR recommends turning the boost down 😱
That got me thinking "what if you had a built engine?"
Then i thought "I'm sure there was a picture (maybe on Instagram) of you with some forged rods and pistons"?
Am I just imagining things?
In regards to oil, if tis using a bunch of oil, going to a semi synthetic oil will improve that situation. Penrite Vantage is best in my opinion with the extra Zinc additive. I ran it in my Subaru Liberty with 300awkw, given how those motors are, it removed all the oil usage I ever had. Might be worth trying.
Thanks for the info!
Very nice. Maybe the XHP tune, and the higher pump pressure will cause this line vibration. Under normal pressure it will maybe not noticeable🤷♂️🤔. Dutch regards, Nico.
Well if anything they reduce clutch wear. Believe it or not. The lower the pressure the more they will slip.
Actually the turbocharged ///M engines use 5w-30 or 0w-30 from the factory, the N/A ones use 10w-60. I ran Castrol Magnatec 5w-40 on my single turbo N54 and I had no issues with oil consumption, I did not baby that car either 🤷🏼♂️
I use 10w60 motul also on my n54. Just hit 100k miles. My only concern was my oil pressure did go up a bit at cold start but it’s normal after. I’m in southern cali so temps aren’t cold cold.
How are you measuring your oil pressure?
@@ZeroTo60Tube I'm using the prosport evo series gauge....I bought it on ECS tunning. I adapted a fitting onto the stock location adapted the other sensor that way. Only issue I had was ground...I had to ground it to its own location and it started reading as it should
Question.......... As you pulled out only 5 litres of engine oil do you recall what level the iDrive was showing it as.. was it still on max? I'm always suspicious of the no dipstick idrive oil level 😒 🙄
Mine is either max or add a litre 🤣
Ssp u should go with I want to go with them just saving up
Any updates on the M3?
Hey Andrew, When I had my N54 setup, The only one thing after all my upgrades made a big difference was a high flow radiator made by Direnza. Your overall temperatures of the car will be better as your racing with your N54. I don’t know do you have a standard radiator. If so change it and your car will drive like a different car. More low end torque=more power?
Forgot to add please use bmw blue coolant that’s will help the DME do it’s calculations better. Cool your engine better. Thanks for reading
I change mine every 2k miles. Doesn't look at black as yours and I drive the pics out of it. I use motul. 550whp ish. Doesn't take much oil maybe half a liter after 2k miles
Deka stage 3 clutch packs would be a good upgrade. Begood with the DCT swapped 'predator' is using them with over '1000hp'
hmmmmmm just need to sell an arm or a leg dont i.
@@ZeroTo60Tube They were 2kusd in the group buy not sure how much now. You'll still need to use your own basket tho.
@@ZeroTo60Tube gotta pay to play he also recommended me those clutchpacks. I belive he used go have ssp and must've not worked out so good for him
Deka stg 3 clutches are 2k
Valve stem seals? Where is that vid?
Did your Idrive notify you that you are 1.5lts down? I have found that those type of Buckets are far from accurate! The Idrive should say when it needs another litre?
Hey man can you tell me the name of the song you used?
Great video once again I’m doing my dct swap soon I have everything already but I bought the dct fluid kit from ecs tuning and it only brings 5quarts but I heard u say it’s more like 7 quarts to fill is that correct do I need 7 or is 5 quarts enough
I think i used about 7 litres on the first fill, but i had both filters out and both pans off the trans. And had to fill my oil cooler.
Are those OEM Diverter valves?
Might want to change them if so. I put a set of eBay diverter valves on my 535xi - look like TurboSmart valves. 80 bucks from a USA seller (not sure what shipping etc would cost)
Came with the valves, silicone pipes to hook them up to the OEM locations if you want for the recirc.
Seller is blackpanthermotorsports - love the series.
My car did not like the ebay diverters. Caused over boost and under boost conditions. Took me ages to work out. However i was running them on stock vacuum. I want to switch out to a turbo smart style single bov eventually.
@@ZeroTo60Tube understood! Sorry to hear that. my OEM diverters were leaking at 20psi, surprised yours aren't leaking.
I wouldn’t really be concerned about burning a little oil when the engine is living life at high rpm just keep an eye on it could be anything from oil get by the seals in the turbo under high boost, oil rings, head gasget, or valve stem steals. Most r35 Gtr burn oil and any Honda I’ve ever owned.
Hmmm, looks sorta familiar under there.....
If it was the valve stem seals that are going bad or not installed properly you'll most Likley end up with a ton of oil in the catch can same goes if your piston rings are worn or the cylinder walls are worn. So if neither of those are happening then most likely the China boys are getting tired and worn out
10w60 all the way!
My N54 in my is seems to burn about a quart every 500-1000 miles if I'm beating on the car only stage 1 however but thought I would share my experience with the N54 eating oil.
My N54 did that until I switched to Castrols 5w30 "for direct injection" oil. Now I'm 1 quart in 3-4000 miles.
these cars eat oil especially when your really on it, mine is around 4K now depending how I drive but I usually change the oil by then
Up until 7.15 I wanted to comment “Andrew is it possible that your filthy fingers touched the camera lense!?” 😂😂
It was the trans ejaculating.... i swear....
What size tires are you running ? I’m running the same wheel setup. Rubbing on the fronts when doing half a full turn ! How do I fix this problem
Stock e92 m sport tyre size. I did hit the front inner guears with a heat gun, there is a video on the channel on making them not rub..... but i can't remember where it is. It was filmed around this time last year.
Are the downshifts perfect now, with the DCT? You weren't happy with regular automatic transmission
Its night and day difference with how the car in settled on turn in. Its like im controlling the clutches directly on a down shift.
I forget if you have an oil catch can, could a bad pcv be related to higher oil consumption?
I do have a catch can, and new-ish PCV. However i think i will plug the ports soon.
Man my trans is on 314,000KM's and I''m sure it's the original fluid. Sad. I've got to deal with it but it's been hold well. So far. Scary.
When you are down a liter of oil does it show in the idrive oil reader or does it still say full?
Yeah it does. I basically get the warning the day after ive been thrashing it on track.
Andrew proceeds to totally butcher my nickname 🤣 +10 for the effort tho and I don't blame you since it's actually a dutch adjective. Just call me "Sideside" and you are totally safe 👌!
Running 10w60 Castrol aswell. No issues at the moment, also a little bit of oil consumption. Guess it's the nature of the beast 😊
Haha
👍👍
Got your hybrids on yet?
@@ZeroTo60Tube Yeah there on got some port injection aswell form MMP engineering with injectors and AIC controller for $1500 landed in Australia check there site they do some good turbos aswell.. going away for work Monday can't wait to get back so i can send it..🔥🔥
Still wondering why the vargas n54 isn't boosting. Left us in suspense.
It has to be the turbos. I can only assume a damaged compressor or turbine wheel.
Will you send the oil to be tested? You should? And you can't change oil too often IMO. Check out engineering explained latest video but I have tested my oil for years, it's fun and interesting.
I don’t think so. The tests cost about $40 here and out of the 3 we have done the most notable thing the testers say is that we aren’t using thier oil and we should be.
@@ZeroTo60Tube oh so no unbiased independent testers?
@@twinscrolled Not here in Aus it seems. Also getting and useful info out of them is very meh.... But we have only tested older engines.
My oil smells like really strong alcohol if I run it for 2k miles on full e85
Can anyone tell me what wheels those are? I have the same on my e92
M437
What trans cooler do you run?
Its a custom kit i put together, but basically the biggest cooler i could fit in the wheel well. This is the install vid on it. ruclips.net/video/7JvWx3uss58/видео.html&t
Silver button > red button.
I’ve really been debating on purchasing xhp for the DCT, anyone have/recommend? It is on the more expensive side
Have the app for months but still unsure on dropping the €400
I can not recommend it enough if you are running more power than stock. Being able to tune launch modes is amazing. Also the little pop i get on the shifts now is cool as well.
Have had it for ages now and I think it's on maybe the third software iteration... great fun and very capable. Do it and soon as you do, disable creep.
Lmao sorry, I don't know what has been funnier with your reactions...... either you realising there was a smudge on the camera in this video, or your classic "And there's a King. There's a King having a s**t" comment.......
When it comes to oil, just remember the BMW engines (in fact most Euro engines) are designed to burn about a litre of oil every 10K. It is safer and cheaper to burn such a small amount instead of having to replace engines. Personally, I avoid Valvoline like the plague. Castrol is usually pretty good in my X5 daily, Shell is no good in these motors. I have heard Penrite and Nulon are very good in these. However, viscosity is more important. As you are in QLD, higher average temps, I would suggest changing to something more like 15W/50, or 20W/60, it will give you better protection when beating on it given the higher engine temps and air temps.
Send me a message about DCT clutches, ive been doing DCT swaps into other cars for years :)
What is the best way to contact you? I just realised who you were too!
how much wheel torque you got?
No idea. I do know it does 5 second 100-200s tho…
@@ZeroTo60Tube I am eyeing for n54 dct now...saw dct clutch upgrades, not bad for the price comparing to 6hp19 upgrades from propulsive.
@@TCGTV98 Also a good condition stock DCT will hold more power when tuned than a built and tuned 6hp19. Only issue with DCT they do not like launching when you have decent power. There are not many cars in Australia that need upgraded clutches on the DCT, even my single build would be fine if the trans wasnt 200,000ks old
Man you are way better off changing oil at , 1500 than 15000 in an engine that has over 2 times the power it was meant to.
My thoughts exactly. I really feel like im pushing my luck with it as it is.
get a catch can
It does actually have one. But still running stock style PCV.
