Wow thank you so much this was super helpful! Watched loads of videos and this was by far the best for verbal and visual instruction well worth the 20 minutes. Thanks again I love my Matt SKS mudguards!
*New Subscriber* : That was great ! Just ordered a pair for my new Triban 520 Gravel. This video will be very helpful. All the best and greetings from Prague !
Right on. I'm fixing up a 'his and hers' pair of Diamond Back Sorrento's that came my way. I think they're the same model year as yours (1990 or 1991). And if you really love Diamond Back as much as I do, here's a shot of my DB collection: i.imgur.com/v6g254B.jpg What kind of reflectors did you find? More of the same you put on?
I'm really starting to like old MTBs. They're useful for frankenstein builds or CX conversions... or just using as intended! I have a Claud Butler MTB build waiting to be published... I just need one more part... Yup, more Kelloggs reflectors, but this time Tony the Tiger! They came up cheap on eBay so I had to have them.
I’m waiting for my SKS Bluemels 45 Matte Blacks to arrive and I think I’m going to paint the supports in matte black as well to better fit my black bicycle... before installing them.... nice video mate, thanks for that! Do you think it’s possible to install the fenders while the wheel is on the bike? Can’t figure out a reason why not
Very nice video, mate. Thank you for clearing up the directions. 7 blessing to you! Sorry about your rear fender getting scuffed by the hacksaw, I truly know the frustration.
Way back when in the 1950s & 60s Youth Hostling Cycling Club Riding, The long and the short miles, Rain or shine, And for Mudgaurds, We all used, Bluemels ever time.
For Bycycl commuting & touring, It is well worth the little extratime & expense, To buy, Find, Aqwire, Lock-Washer's, For all the fittings on the mud guards, And a - lock tighte - compound on the threads of nuts & bolts. You can add Mud-Flaps, to the Mud-Gaurds. For when you ride in groups. You will be glade you made the effort.
Well done my friend ...only got one thing to complain (but not about your work ) I don't use those plastic bridges ...I always use a metal one because on hardtails or bikes with a stiff frame like that the plastic just breakes way easier trough the vibrations . Have to do this work also soon , because I've got guards made from aluminium atm on my Dawes and they are realy old and worn out and got a lot of cracks ...and the noise they make drives me nuts xD !!!! Nice video ..keep up the good work and have fun !
Excellent video with lots of details. The only problem is those nuts come with the package would not work or useless as the bolts cannot screw through. Why is that?
Did your set come with the long bolts which fix the guards to the existing holes on the frame? I just bought a set and it came with the stays and clips and other bits but not the long bolts.
That would be great. Let me know if it's true. Someone at the bike shop where I bought them told me that. All of the package labeling was in German except for the installation instructions. Which, were in English and just about every other language. I sold the bike that they were mounted to and their still being used so I can't cut them up to check. I don't remember what model they were either but, they had all of the same plastic mounting brackets. I broke those front safety eyelets that go on the front fender during installation. lol 😉.
The guys at the bike shop I bought them from K&G Bicycles in Kettering, Ohio deserve the credit. They know they're products and prices of the things they sell. They've even given me free service over the years. When they see something wrong with a customers bike they will often take it in the back and fix it on the spot at no charge. They're also known around town for ordering custom parts at a discount. Many thanks to Justin, Brian and all of the other sales/ mechanics that have helped me over the years. They're a great asset to the local Cycling community.
Yeah . I'm a fan of these. Great value. How do people fit to the fork and brake bridge with more modern 'recessed' brake bolts ? Also I've got an old late eighties British Eagle MTB (cantilever). Rear I've got fitted fine but front the drop from the fork to the mudguard mounting makes a neat fit very difficult. Need bridging or mending plate or similar ?
hello my friend, did you ever figure this out? I’m trying to attach fenders to my bike but the bolts on the calipers don’t stick out as far as the ones in the video
17:31 What if my bike does not have the hole in the fork so that its not possible to thread the screw in anywhere? How would I mount the front mudguard then? Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the video. What size wrench for the bolts? Also, there are 3 different sized bolts with odd numbers (1 long, 3 medium, 5 short - assuming the short are for the front and rear drop outs with one to spare, and the others for whatever fits?)
Just fitted a set of 45mm wide ones to my Boardman ADV 8.9. There are threaded holes in all the right places at the rear but the front mounting holes on the fork legs are quite a way up from the axle. the stays need bending and cutting to work. My big trial was getting the tiny Nyloc nuts to thread on. I cheated, eventually.
Same problem I faced and not knowing how to work with those nuts as it has limited thread or blocked toward the other end. Totally useless, why? Or am I too stupid not understand how to use them?
@@arthuryu1905 If the nut is put on with one turn, you can see that the nut bears down on the stay to stop it moving. I started out totally the wrong way around, so it took me a while to get it sorted out and tight, There might be a video or photo on the internet to guide you.
18:55 woosh, and not only are the stays trimmed, the fork changed too. :P btw, nice to see i'm not the only lazy ass that couldn't bother to cut the fork and just put some extra spacers above the stem.
Was trying to remember the brand name of the top quality mudguards of the 80s. ESGE Chromoplastics. Seems SKS make them now. Virtually indestructible. Still on my dad's bike.
Hi, if you were to get a puncture and need to replace inner tube, would you need to take these mudguards off to replace or can replace whilst keeping mudguards on?
Appreciate its 2 years late but incase anyone had fears about this. You'd leave the mudguards fitted, there is no need to remove them just flip the bike, rotate the puncture to the sky, use your tyre levers to pull out a bit of the tube where punctured, patch, reinsert and inflate.
Thanks for the nice Video. Still pissed about that assembly Instruction. They should probably pay me for the effort put in the assembly instead of me paying them...
First he tried to bolt it through the chainstay bridge, but the bolt was too short. Instead he bolted it directly, so all parts at 5:04 together with the mudguard. The curved part should clip onto the bridge, but it's not that secure so he replaced the original bolt with a longer one that did fit through the bridge. I think :)
Wow thank you so much this was super helpful! Watched loads of videos and this was by far the best for verbal and visual instruction well worth the 20 minutes. Thanks again I love my Matt SKS mudguards!
Thank you for providing a comprehensive installation, including trimming the arms.
No problemo. Thanks for watching.
Excellent video explaining the fitting of the mudguards. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!

Great old Diamond Back. Cool Reflectors. Nice new fenders! Plenty to love!!
Thank you. I've just picked up more reflectors! Yay!

Thank you for the tutorial! It was really helpful especially because no instructions came with the mudguards.
You're welcome. Hope you enjoy them
I got the same mudguards but was lucky then as I have the instructions :) they were stapled to the carton part below the bolts
Very nice video, mate. Thank you for clearing up the directions. 7 blessing to you! Sorry about your rear fender getting scuffed by the hacksaw, I truly know the frustration.
One little slip and it’s forever noticeable to me.
Job well done and well explained. I’m awaiting the arrival of mine, fitting looks doable with my skill set, possibly! Thank you.
You're welcome!
Very useful video, included instructions from SKS are Bobbins
Just fitted a set to my work bike using this video as a tutorial. Thanks, they went on without any problems.
Well done ! Better than factory instructions !
Thanks!
presh! i just bought these and was a bit confused but you cleared it up, thanks mate.
No probs. Glad it helped
Thank you just bought a pair..the manual was hard to understand..the video was perfect.
This was so relaxing to watch, helped me fit some new mudguards on my commuter too! Thank you.
those cornflakes reflectors are a blast from the past
Digging through the cereal packs to find them before your sibling does!
Enjoyed your company during install on my 1997 Schwinn Moab Elite.
Thanks. Hope they work well for you.
I got stuck with that. Thanks for the help!
Glad it helped!
Very informative video, just finished installation. Thanks!
Thank you. Really helped seeing your video. Top notch.
Great video I just put guards on 2 of my bikes. I did it very similar to you with the use of a grinder.
Wow, plenty of tire clearance in that frame!
Thank you, this was very helpful. I bought the same mudguard set for my bike but it came with no instructions whatsoever.
Oh really? Glad the video could help!
Down here in the dark of the bisque we've got the four things. Oh man, yeah.

I don’t know? All the fixings worked well for me.
@@MonkeyShred got it from the internet. These are called nyloc nuts which cannot just use fingers to tighten them up.
Thanks for sharing. I found this video helpful!
Did your set come with the long bolts which fix the guards to the existing holes on the frame? I just bought a set and it came with the stays and clips and other bits but not the long bolts.
A dremel makes cutting the stays very quick and easy if you have/can borrow one.
It does! They're great bits of kit.
Fantastic video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
I had the same reflectors on my bike wheels as a kid. I think they came from Kellogg's cornflakes boxes, right?
Correct!
Same as!
I used to have a set of SKS fenders. I was told they were fiberglass with an aluminum foil core to keep them light.
I can check that on the old pair that snapped. I've still got them stashed at work.
That would be great. Let me know if it's true. Someone at the bike shop where I bought them told me that. All of the package labeling was in German except for the installation instructions. Fitting these bad bots to my CX on boxing day, preying to god they have the spacers in with them for the front disc brakes.
thanks a million!
Thank you

This was an excellent video, thank you loads. Made fitting them MUCH easier than the awful instructions that came with.
Thanks for your time.
17:31 What if my bike does not have the hole in the fork so that its not possible to thread the screw in anywhere? How would I mount the front mudguard then? Thanks for sharing!
You can use something called a P clip. Get the rubber backed version so they don’t scuff up the paintwork.
@@MonkeyShred I just thought to use velcro band and let the fork hold the long pins to the fender. That should work... i guess?
@@ashystyle could do. Have a look for a P clip though. They work great.
Glad I paid the $30 to have them installed at the bike shop as I don't have the patience to do all that.

Useful video that bud, now back to finding some that fit my Giant Defy 4 😕
Does it no have "normal" mounting points or are the clearances too tight?
@@MonkeyShred clearances too tight mate. Even the Giant ones made for the Defy 4 don't fit according to t'net

How do I fit the rear bridge on my bike? My bike only has a hole for a bolt but does not go all the way through the bike frame?
Put a bolt I there? If it’s already got the threaded hole just use that.
great video, thanks
thank you for vidéo :)
You’re welcome.
How many millimeters in diameter is the stay?
What size of tire you are using?
what do I do if the bolt under my fork doesn’t stick out as far? how do I attach it to the bridge?
What fitting do you have? Nut or a sunken Allen key style?
Great video, thx!
Are those the original Kellogs reflectors?
I believe they are...
How to choice optimal width of full size mudguards according to width of tires?
A lot of manufacturers will give specific recommendations. When I bought these the different widths were listed for each tyre size
Shall you agree with their recomendations? Can you add anything?
Different front fork!? You won't catch me with my trousers.
Merci. 👍
