- Diébédo Francis Kéré knew exactly what he wanted to do when he got his degree in architecture... He wanted to go home to Gando in Burkina Faso, to help his neighbors reap the benefit of his education. In this charming talk, Kéré shows off some of the beautiful structures he's helped to build in his small village in the years since then, including an award-winning primary school made from clay by the entire community.

Diébédo Francis Kéré is one of my biggest inspirations. Because of him, I have decided to dedicate my life to sustainable development
Just beware that some aspects of sustainability has been politicized.
Good on you, good for the planet
Am now also inspired by this guy
@@kayem3824 The fact that they are taken up by politicians doesn't mean that environmental sustainability in design isn't important. They are backed up by science, politicians didn't make them up
good on you!
I love how he always use "we" instead of "I" or me. Just shows how humble my guy is. He doesnt take all the credit to himself but also include the community.
When I found Diébédo Francis Kéré, I found a path in architecture field. For the first time I'm visiting my ancestors in a village called Degbo,Somaliland in April to establish a rural one-classroom primary school and teachers residence.
Did you end up building the school sxb?

And now he is the latest Pritzker Award (the most valuable prize in architectural discipline).
Truly one of a kind, an inspiration.
Every time I hear his talks my architectural passion gets stronger; I belive in my profession as a tool for change and not only as a mechanism for capital income.
His work and buildings is a living example of this philosophy.
Congratulations Master Keré and thank you for your example and teachings.
- Hiram Bolio from Mexico.
Today he is the first African to have the Nobel prize of architecture.❤️❤️❤️

I love how you can make something with the power of your hands, the creativity of your mind and the soil that surrounds you. People like Kéré prove that the only thing that stands between us and our goals is our own doubt.
You're a great man. It really takes a Village to form an indispensable and holístic man. My heart sings after listening to your project of life. Education is the solution to mitigate and erradicate misery. Lumina spargire. Congratulation on the prizes and deserved accomplishments.

Great man and an African hero.. well done Mr. France Kere and I hope many people will follow your example and give their community back as you did.
What an amazing way to build something that everybody would like to do so once in their life journey. Diebedo Francis brings architects to their original philosophy!

I was very impressed with the work of Diébédo Francis Kéré, beautiful he recognize where he came from and come back with ideas for his community! Diébédo Francis Kéré is one of my biggest inspirations.
Similar to most modern buildings of the world, but with clay! Amazing! I love the designs too. Minimalist, simple and functional. Hats off to this guy!
Each and every nation need a person like this. Truly inspiring. Go ahead francis. Wish you all the best
I have deep respect for this gentleman.
Since giving this TED Talk, Mr Kéré has won the Pritzker Prize. I’m delighted, because, yes, this is long-due personal recognition, and yes, because it’s the first time it’s been awarded to an African architect, but, most importantly, I’m delighted because Mr Kéré’s work represents a shift in the architectural profession towards a new set of values; community, inclusivity, locality, ecology, life transformation, sustainability, nature.
Africa is leading now; the West needs to follow.
Those set of values were already present in soviet architecture, or council housing in Europe from the 60s. Without ecology, etc, of course.
@@patrickschafstein5848 With respect, no they were not. Both the examples you cite were top-down, centralised, paternalistic, bureaucratic impositions that often trampled on the aspirations of local networks and in many cases dispersed settled communities. I worked professionally in the early stages of social housing tenant participation in the UK in the 1980s and 1990s and can attest to how much local government of all political persuasions had treated their tenant communities with contempt up to that point. What Mr Kéré is doing is of a radically different nature.
March 15, 2022, Diébédo Francis Kéré became the first African architect to win the Pritzker Prize. 👏👏👏👏👏
Congratulation to this man for winning the 2022 pritzker prize ❤️❤️❤️❤️
A visionary architect, his love for his people, his innovative technicalities and the spirit of his architecture...may he inspire all of us
Very good, an example how to live better helping its own community.
Is a path the African's communities should follow.
Very proud of him and what he has done for Africa in general.
He is soooo inspiring! So well deserved prize. Happy the Pritzker judges are looking in a different direction. 🥰
Francis just inspired me to also use my art skills to help my community here in Ghana
Beautiful, practical, eco- friendly, and cost effective. He’s brilliant! 🌺Bravo Diebado.

I am so short of words. Genius mind!!!!! Oh lord you are a saviour to the rest of africa and a great inspiration
I love the talks out of Africa. There is so much innovation, at the simplest level, that comes out that it amazes you the beauty of science and design. Also, it is such a different reality.
what an amazing person. so inspiring and good person. we need more people like him. he teaches us the importance of community and the power of it.
Fancis Kéré you are a great soul, never forgot your roots, try to improve better lives for Burkina Faso youth. You are a gifted person. Keep on your good work!
What a great way to show love to each other in a community 🎉🎉🎉
He is a perfect example of the saying, ( To Whom Much Is Given, Much Is Expected). Perfect example of what could make Black society better. Kids these days should say ,thank you instead of F you. He feels a sense of responsibility for doing what he can to make his community a better place. If everyone on earth was like him we would have Heaven on earth.
I want to follow in his footsteps
Agreed
This guy is an inspiration.
Great TED talk about how interdependence can help people thrive.
Amazing talk
Absolutely Brilliant. If more people were like him.
Now, in 2022, he won the Pritzker Price.
I am studying architecture and i didn´t know his work, he is an inspiration for all of us and I really hope to know him one day. Congratulations Diébédo, you are amazing!!!
People really do not want to leave their homes and communities, it's very difficult and heartbreaking and having to leave at such a young age. I am so proud of Francis for remembering his community and creating the opportunity for livelihood so that families can stay together in the communities that they love!

Very impressive talk! Much respect to him and his community :) So many good things can be created when people come together to innovate. Ideas like this need more spreading.
When inspiration meets innovation...
