The Many Contradictions of Kendrick Lamar

- Опубликовано: 11 апр 2024
- Kendrick Lamar has put the rap world on notice. And no, you haven’t time-traveled back to 2013 when he announced his intent to murder everyone on Control, Nor have you went back to 2017 when he declared that he wasn't 1,2,3,4,5, but the greatest rapper alive”. Now, nobody is denying that Kendrick doing this didn’t make hip-hop more exciting. But, the problem is that at 37 years old, it contradicts much of Kendrick’s persona and his entire last project Mr Morale & the Big Steppers. But when we really examine it, Kendrick has been lost and confused since the outset of his career.

Yeah it's mad weirdo vibes 😂
Who says they’re professional?
So because Kendrick is doing better in his personal life and chooses to share his life journey on his own projects he’s “lost and confused” for boasting his rap skills? Dude never said he was done with rap beefs.
His whole point was that he couldn’t save the world like he thought he could when he left Compton. So he’s going to prioritize saving himself instead of the world with his art. It has nothing to do with disses.
Yeah and I did see the guy (OP) did make some bias vids lately, ngl.
The Drake Fangirls are doing their best at Damage Control while he doesnt respond....
No, they're filling in the blanks for niggas who'd lick Dot's shoe if he told them do it. So, you, basically. Just without the dead Drake memes.
Drake doesn't need to.
I've seen more comments reciting dead memes like this than the "fangirls" themselves. Dot fans would really lick the sole of his boot if he told them to.
Dot fans can't meme for their lives lol. its 2024 and you're calling grown men fangirls
@@itsme3kas a drake fan I’d say he does need to BUT he can be on his own time. They waited for him to go on tour to diss for a reason.
Saying he's lost and confused is a bold title. IMHO after Mr. Morale and the big steppers he's gone back to having fun. You can't tell me the recent tracks with keem weren't just him having a blast. The most recent diss was aggressive in a lot of ways, but just like in sports, when you're the top of your game, you shit talk, and no one comes at you even though they know they might lose is boring. The only real response was j cole and he apologized. Cole acted out of emotion and it showed. It feels like Kendrick is looking to spice the game up again and no one wants to even attempt a back and forth.
Cole acted out of poise and it was dead obvious. Good on him for being a grown man secure in his spot in the game. You getting your kicks through rap beef isn't the artist having fun, easy mistake.
Cause what are we doing? If it’s not beef why is he talking greasy for? I just don’t get what there is to gain… because no one’s going to base this off bars. It’s gonna be who says the most disrespectful thing they can. And is that what hip hop is? Is it disrespecting someone until they wanna fight you… cuz if that’s the case battle rap is an entire genre that Kendrick couldn’t even step foot inside of… most people can’t. So I ask like what are we expecting to come out of this?
@@pastorbluntaround7701features, singles he wild out. BUT Albums are art. Why would he put disses on the album and discredit the ART?

This video is weird cuz "I chose me I'm sorry" has nothing to do with stepping away from the competitiveness of dissing rappers. It's about him letting go of the weight of trying to be the "savior" of hip-hop and a supposed leader of black ppl. It's about him accepting that's he just another person. A person with his on flaws, personality and tendencies.
Agreed. He’s a person obviously but he’s a person with a perspective, talent & power that is not just for anyone.
It’s like being a famous person you know?
You guys like to confuse an individual's self-identity with their rap persona. What Kendrick says about himself in terms of his everyday life should not be confused with the things he says on a rap song. When it comes to emceeing, he knows he's the best and he comes hard with his words and delivery every single time. Especially when it comes to the art form of battling.
This 👆🏾👆🏾
I 100% agree. As a person it seems like he's got his own things to deal with his self-identity outside of music, but in rap he knows he's the best and it's not like he's bullying people, he's just saying I'm the best and if someone mentions him, he's like. What are you talking about? I know who I am and how good I am and I'll remind you but I still want to do my thing and be creative
Exactly this so watching this video was a little frustrating
Yea you put the words together that I was thinking. ⬆️⬆️⬆️
this is the literal definition of disassociating yourself from your actions and I know at least 4 licensed therapists that would tell you this 110% IS NOT how anyone should act or think but go off..
Kendrick and J. Cole portraying themselves as "conscious" or "moral" just to be the EXACT opposite is pathetic. "but its a character, its entertainment, its friendly" that doesnt change the fact that its pathetic behavior, that doesnt change the outcome we're left with in the objective reality, that only changes how YOU perceive whats going on, that "motive" or "character" exists solely within YOUR head it isnt real. its just an excuse "its not an excuse they are fr just pretending bro" even if they are, its still an excuse for pathetic behavior. Excuses don't have to be false, and motives dont change outcomes, the outcome is still pathetic no matter how you spin it. I think folks confused Kendrick saying “I choose me” to mean I’m done with music/rap/competition. I interpreted it as Kendrick giving up the idea of having to be perfect as the leader of the culture (hence the heart part 5).
That doesn’t mean he won’t still make music and speak his mind, especially if he perceives some real disrespect
I totally agree
It's also mean from that point kendrick gonna make music that he want to make rather than falling into the pressure of the people telling him that he is the savior of hip hop. The biggest point to takeaway from mmatbs is that kendrick shedding his weaknesses, it's kinda like saying to the people "i'm just a human being i'm not jesus i don't have the answers to all your problems cause i have problems too".
Anyone that thought that meant he’s done with music or anything is imo very silly for thinking that. People really like to reach for meanings of things when the whole album is there for them to have ACTUALLY listened to to understand wtf he meant. After that album there was a slew of “the big 3 is retiring” videos and think pieces put out that felt forced as hell. These niggas are here to stay for another decade and then some lmao

What’s Kendrick’s objective?
Man what are you talking about? Kendrick already said he's not your savior. You can take multiple things from music, that's why there are different genres, subgenres, and every artist's songs are not all the same. You want the dude to just rap about the same things all the time and not have fun? As for what you said about Nipsey; Nipsey had some motivational and inspirational songs, but he also had aggressive braggadocios songs. You're clearly biased. Nipsey respected Kendrick, Kendrick respected Nipsey, they collaborated and I don't understand what you're talking about. @@pastorbluntaround7701

I just think that's the life of an artist. Anyone who creates for a living is usually conflicted, constantly shifting their viewpoints based on their experiences and translating it to the canvas. Most artists are usually unfocused, not clear in what they want to convey, but it makes for some of the best art.
The thumbnail too crazy😂
Ayyy love ur vid bro

@@hiphopmadnessur a mad drake stan we can tell
I’m honestly not confused by Kendrick’s apparent duality, which this video does a great job of proving.
I actually think it’s perfect, because it further highlights the point of Mr. Moral and The Big Steppers: when he says he’s not your saviour, one of the reasons he acknowledges this is because of this very duality, or inconsistency.
For example, in ‘family ties’, he acknowledges that Kanye changed his own life by finding God, in a seemingly admirable manner (as though he’d like that for himself) but quickly admits that he’s still a old school gemini (that he is still prone to choosing violence, despite his best efforts to retain peace).
That, to me, is perfect because he may be confused, but he’s no liar. 🤷🏽♂️
Bro Kendrick is just having fun! He can do whatever he wants but bro said he's lost and confused 😭

In mirror he wasn't stepping away from the petty stuff such as beef. . . He was stepping away from the God complex people gave. . . (Mr. moral) people looking to him for answers in times of need specifically in the black community. . .
His song alright became a symbol of hope during those dark times and since he was the creator of this symbol people had high expectations of him and how he'd adress the every day problems black people go through forgetting he is now far Removed from those daily struggles. The only thing he has left in common with the community he left behind is his skin tone
In Damn this is what he was questioning is it wickedness or weakness. . . The continuous theme throughout the album was:
Was what he was striving for wicked or weak? Was him returning home trying to maintain old relationships with people stuck in their own ways and not broadening their horizon stagnating him or growing him like they use to while he was growing up considering the success he has achieved?
With all this said. . . Whenever tensions rose in music/rap shit he was always ready for the smoke, but the people around him probably convinced him that he was above that petty shit. . . Even tho the truth is that he wanted to engage in it. . . To genuinely put himself out there and wage war against any MC that dared to step to him. . .
He was human, he is human. . . A little lost and confused maybe, but it's part of the human experience.
This is just a space where he can finally engage in some bullshit and no one is in his ear saying, "You ain't gotta do that"
Great take. Drake was deep in a battle with Pusha T before Kendrick decided he wanted smoke. The details matter!👑

It's so funny that Drakes idea of longevity in art is his songs still being played "this summer or next year"
the people who allow a man to come up with 1 verse every 2 years are mad at Drake for not responding instantly
Yeah because whenever Drake disses somebody y'all act they they're on the clock. He did that to himself when he made back to back. Drake stans are such hypocrites.
My man is bipolar, he said it myself in Like That lol
He struggles between good and evil, and the image of him being perfect makes it even harder for him... like he said many times in many different songs in many different ways
I just hate how many people think they suddenly can create entire definitions and criteria for people and their work just because there is a discourse...
"hip hop is a competitive sport, this is REAL hip hop, you cant be a REAL rapper if you aren't hungry, it was just friendly beef it doesn't mean anything, ect."
like for one since when did people gain the ability to continuously change definitions of already existing things
HIP HOP: a style of popular music of African American and Hispanic origin, featuring rap with an electronic backing.
MUSIC: vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion.
like ITS LITERTALLY JUST ART!! hip hop is music, music is a medium of art, art is human expression of emotion. "hip hop" is not its own thing separate from music with its own rules, trying to make it its own thing with its own rules is nothing more than creating a hole to shove pigeons into. it is not and never has been a sport.
And for two, the amount of people that are sucking off and agreeing with a corrupt company just because they perpetuated the drama is CRAZY!
(literally the entire world 3 months ago) "SPOTIFY SUCKS they take all the money, they create toxic environments for their artists, Spotify is evil!"
(spotify) "hip hop is a competitive sport"
(the entire world when Spotify sees a conflict that they can capitalize off of and create drama) "OMFG YES YES YES FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT... what no im not a bad person, i dont get enjoyment out of peoples downfall, I dont incite drama, its all friendly, YOURE the weird one for having morals and thinking people should treat art like its art"
Like im not a J. Cole, Kendrick, or Drake fan so I really dont hold a bias towards them but I 110% do hold a bias towards being a pathetic adult (regardless of whether you portray yourself as conscious or not, being conscious isnt a magical trait of the top 1%, its the bare minimum to have good morals) and all 3 of them as well as all of their meat riders are as pathetic as it gets
imagine youre an artist, and you make good art, but thats just not enough for you, you cant compete with yesterdays self, you cant compare yourself to your last work. NO you just HAVE to tear other people down AND gas up your own work WHILE making good art because you're too insecure and you care about the greater opinion, you want the masses to point towards you as "#1" not as "someone who makes good art" cause you're a selfish bastard thats addicted to external validation.
Again, this applies to ANY and EVERYONE over the age of 18, but when you see people like Kendrick and J. Cole portraying themselves as "conscious" or "moral" just to be the EXACT opposite, its pathetic. "but its a character, its entertainment, its friendly" that doesnt change the fact that its pathetic behavior, that doesnt change the outcome we're left with in the objective reality, that only changes how YOU perceive whats going on, that "motive" exists solely within YOUR head it isnt real. its just an excuse "its not an excuse they are fr just pretending bro" even if they are, its still an excuse for pathetic behavior. Excuses don't have to be false, and motives dont change outcomes, the outcome is still pathetic no matter how you spin it.
TLDR: 99% of rappers and rap fans are philistines without morals that think they have a say over what is and isn't art, and shouldn't be allowed to form opinions let alone spread them and pretend they're fact.🤷♂🤷♂
Kendrick talks about how when people see conflict and fighting they say "this is the culture" he even talks about stopping this. Lol
@@jameslight4391 EXACTLY! like not only are both J. Cole and Kendrick PROVING that they don't actually act on what they say, but their fans are PROVING that they also don't listen to the lyrics of the people they call GOAT.😂😂
My quick response to the TL;DR: The Hip-Hop culture since the invention of battle rap has been damaged fundamentally, to act like battle rap isn't an integral part of the culture is to delude oneself of the nature of Hip-Hop. Yes, it has been poisoned by ego but that is the way it is and there is nothign that can change that. There is an almost nihilistic backdrop to it all if you take ALL of Hip-Hop into consideration with rap as a limb of Hip-Hop then you realize that what it is is a shell of it's former self with Drill and Commercial Pop rap being limbs that are seemingly contradictory to the original spirit of Hip-Hop yet have found their own self perpetuating breeding grounds where they fester and further taint what is this culture.
Drill has the real deaths of people paraded around for white people to enjoy and commercial rap is all material and no essence (with a lot of mindless sex on the woman side of commercial rap which I feel could be subliminal programming of some kind for young girls). Now when you take metaphysical philosophy into account, this world isn't much more than a school where we are learning things that we couldn't when we had no limits. Within To Pimp a Butterfly Kendrick touches on this idea with his reference to Hermetism within "Momma" where he states that he "knows the universe works mentally." meaning that if his actions are indeed unwarranted here he will feel the full swing of the pendulum correcting his actions (think of all of the rap beefs in the past and how they ended up).
@@phillemon7664 I agree with every single word you said except for "nothing can change that" WE CAN CHANGE THAT. The consumers are the ones begging for fights, J. Cole only responded because people were begging, if we want things to change (which they absolutely can) then we need rappers that BOTH rap about the internal growth of realizing how childish and pathetic this all is AND actually act on and represent their words. I genuinely believe that if people like drake and Kendrick saw the apology and said "you know what, I respect that, he's standing on his morals" then the rest of the world would slowly think the same cause they are simply sheep. The problem is when rappers and consumers see a fight happening and go "FIGH FIGHT FIGHT!" instead because that mentality spreads like wildfire hence drakes whiteboard saying "hip hop will NEVER be at piece" and posting it for every follower to see, like bro is perpetuating and manifesting that shit ON PURPOSE. Things can change, we just need adults to act like adults🤷♂🤷♂

I don't think there's anything contradictory about what he did on Like That and his journey over the last 5-7 years. Still a great video though, love to see y'all drop new content
That’s that Gemini ♊️
The comment section is a bit disappointing. I guess Kendrick fans aren't much better than Drake fans 😅
I found this nuanced perspective refreshing, good job guys
That was an insightful video….made me appreciate Kendrick a lot more
