    Here's the full video where I break down the new patents pages and what they mean for Legends Z-A!: ruclips.net/video/bVje_vhwRz0/видео.html

    Before people get mad in the comments, copyright infringement and **patent** infringement are NOT the same thing.

    • @av_8596
      @av_8596 2 часа назад +2

      True. When it comes to patents, the only similarities I see are capturing monsters in balls and being able to ride some of them as transportation. You're gonna need a lot more to win a case like this.

    • @johtojonny
      @johtojonny  Час назад +4

      agreed. I'm very curious to see what patents they bring up specifically. When it comes to winning, though, it's not always the person who has the better case that wins. Sometimes money really can stall a process so long that the other side has no choice but to give up. It must be really scary to be sued by Nintendo tbh

      @@johtojonny I can only imagine the stress to being sued by the Big N. Thankfully, Pocket Pair is going to have support from Sony. Sony wants to market and expand Palworld like how Nintendo does with Pokemon. We're talking plushies, action figures, and possibly even an anime series. Sony's having its own financial problems, I know, but they're still a massive corporation, and can give support to Palworld.

      @@av_8596The question is, is palworld going to become a big enough brand to be worth that fight and money spent to defend it? In the long term, I doubt it.

      I'm pretty sure it's the Pokéball patent.
      Palspheres are VERY similar to Pokéballs. A design that is 100% patented.
      Odds are, Pocketpair would have to pay a fine, and make the spheres Cubes or Disc's...

  • @felixhuang518
    @felixhuang518 Час назад +5

    I think the main reason is that Nintendo/TPC are mad about Palworld’s plagiarism on Pokémon design, but this approach cannot guarantee a win, so they use patent as a starting point to create case, initiate a deep investigation towards their code and structure. Or, Nintendo just want Palworld to die, no matter what weapon to use, as long as it can kill them

    • @johtojonny
      @johtojonny  Час назад

      That's a terrifying line of attack, and I agree that's very likely what's happening

      it really depends on what exactly they end up suing for. I'm curious to find out in the coming weeks. What brings you to your conclusion currently, btw?

    • @av_8596
      @av_8596 Час назад

      @@johtojonny If this is a patent case, then I don't see them winning. The only similarities between Palworld and Pokemon are 1) collecting monsters in balls, and 2) riding some of these monsters for transportation. Not much else other than those two. I don't remember seeing somebody chop up a Pikachu in the previous Pokemon games, do you? Now, if this were a copyright case, then Nintendo would have better standing. As much as I love Palworld, I cannot deny that many of the designs are too close to Pokemon. Since what exactly Nintendo is suing Pocket Pair for, we're just going to have to wait.

    • @matthewrowlett1564
      @matthewrowlett1564 48 минут назад

      @@av_8596well, Nintendo DOES own a patent on one of those similarities. The Pokeball. If they had pal disc's or pal cubes or something, there's no case... but colorful balls that shake before catching, and come in three or more varieties ranging in effectiveness? Yeah, that's pokeballs.

    Japanese copyright works very weirdly compared to how it is in the west, but what I think this is is when a corporation is trying to find a gray area so they can sue you for what they really want to go after you for.
    The fact that they were actually taking some time before going into the shows that they're not playing around

    I'm 38 years old and grew up playing video games. I started playing pokemon in 1999 and have played all gens, each version each remake, legends arceus and the gamecube shadow games. These games along with zelda and gta keep me going in this crazy world and I have been looking forward to palworld coming to PS5 so I can have something new to play and now nintendo is being garbage again I bet. They always take fun stuff away and I hate the online service games rather than buying one flat out

    Hopefully it is about the ai art fleecing. Control scheme really doesn’t make sense because players can typically remap to what is best for them anyway. May as well copyright pushing a button to turn on the console.

    This has nothing to do with the designs. Similar as a few pals may be, they are unproven to be altered pokemon OR Ai generated. This is more Nintendo being petty and malicious, essentially throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. What "stuck" was their hundreds of ridiculously vague and broad patents which they could realistically use to go after anyone they felt like.

    • @derekosgood3230

    From what I know of Pocketpair and how people have been saying they've used AI to make the models in Palworld, it is a misinterpretation from Pocketpaie's CEO. The CEO stated that they are okay with AI art, and one of Pocketpair's other games is creating art using AI. They never said they used AIs to make the model, nor is there evidence that they used them to develop Palworld.

    there's no proof of AI usage in Pal world. Anyone can copy a design without AI usage. Palworld was in development longer than AI has even been on the scene.

    • @johtojonny
      @johtojonny  49 минут назад

      That's possibly why only some of them are so similar, though. The reason AI is being so focused on is because 1. The dev's statements on it, and 2. Look at the wireframes in the images I shared in the video. They overlap way too perfectly for a computer to have not copied those proportions directly.
      I firmly believe a handful of pals were copied with ai, but the rest were just inspired

      @@johtojonny well... from what I understand, and I'm no lawyer, but...
      A patent has to have been approved and in possession of an entity for a period of 5 years BEFORE Any legal action can be pursued based upon that patent.
      And if that IS the case, It's pretty much GOT to be Pokéballs, Pikachu, or Mewtwo. Because Nintendo dosent actually HAVE patents on most of their designs.(copyright yes, patent no.) Just Mascots and a few assorted gen 1&2 pokemon. (Pikachu, Clefairy, Snorlax, Rhydon, Mew, Mewtwo, the 3 Birds, Arcanine, the gen1 starters, and the gen 1 fossils. Also the gen 2 starters, 3 Beasts, celebi Lugia, and Ho-Oh.)
      At least, I think that's all of the fully patented ones.
