    50-year-old skater from Seoul, Korea here. Love your channel, loved this video, and particularly loved your subtitles! (your wife seems delightful^^) For some (I'm sure good!) reason, I couldn't stop watching this video.
    Among your videos, I LOVED the "how to stop" piece - must have watched it 3 dozen times. In fact it's how I conquered the hockey stop -- still working on the powerslide though so I'll probably watch it another 3 dozen times. I'm very impressed to learn that you took 30 hours of your time to make it. Thank you, no wonder it's terrific. Would LOVE more tutorials -- your tutorial is different and very helpful, because it is very very practical (e.g. the suggestions for exercises) and amateur-friendly -- if you can find the time to shoot more, that is :)
    Congrats on your first 2 years -- best wishes for another 20!!!

      Thank you so much for watching my videos. It's great to hear my 'how to stop' video has been helping you. The tutorial videos do take quite a long time to put together but if people find them useful it's all worth it.

    I want to tell you that I believe my skating around the neighborhood has at least partially caused a new generation of skaters. Before I started skating (May of 2019) I did not see anyone on skates ever. Last evening I passed 6 or so new young skaters probably (6 to 10 years old). I always smile and wave to them as I pass them and I can see they return the smile to me.

    I very much so enjoyed this, loved the "Hello world" compilation a ton. Remembering first seeing your sloppy but promising skating in that car park, to now your quite formed skating style with your own laid-back but adventurous twist on the terrain. I figured I'd keep it short but sweet, Cheers!

    Today is the end of my 3rd week of learning to skate. I can carve, drag stop, plow stop, jump up & down curbs, do slightly clumsy crossovers, backwards lemon and kinda backwards half lemon. By next sunday I want to learn front-back transitions and maybe the powerslide?
    As I get ready I usually stick one of your flow videos on in the background which helps me get into the mood of trying new things so thanks for that!

However I started when I was 47 years old with absolutely no inline skating experience and also the place I live in does not have a lot of flat land ( I live on top of a hill).

      About 800m from my house is a smooth, flat lane with curbs, a left and right turn with a bridge at the end. In a 300m stretch I can go up and down curbs, do crossovers on both sides, practice backwards skating and use the hill to learn stopping on a slope... it's literally perfect!

    • @swi2009ca
      @swi2009ca 4 года назад +2

      @@moopylicious9426 , I'm asking because I'm 42, started about two mounts ago (from scratch) and progressed a lot, however, still have to work on my stopping technique and no cross over yet. (too afraid to do it on my new longer frames with a brake :) I've been transitioning from a FR1 80 mm to SEBA CJ and NR90 wizards...long but more stable and extremely fast. I have to go back to 80 to try cross-overs otherwise is too scary. drescherjm: I do live in a place with steep hills so that's the reason I do not ditch the rear brake as yet...

    My biggest influences for starting skating again are you and Ricardo Lino, you were the first youtuber I found. I took my children to Rollerworld in Colchester (skate rink where I live) which I use to visit frequently as a child, I enjoyed it so much that when I got home I looked up rollerblading, which led me to your channel, a few days later I purchased my FRX 80s, I got out on them few times in-between the terrible weather and then the lock down happened. I can't wait to get out and practice, I've got a gopro hero 7 to record everything from my beginnings and onwards.

    Cool vid. I used to skate not a lot, but last year wanted to get fit without heavy weights and running cos I’ve always suffered with lower back issues. So I bought a pair or Seba E3’s and randomly went to a local roller disco which resulted in couple of cool dudes asking me if wanted to join their skate club ( fu@k yah ) . Got my feet working and it felt amazing, then received my hospital date for spinal surgery to repair a bulging disc that had caused sciatic pain in both legs for 18 months. Surgery 23/03/2020 yeh day of UK lockdown but all going well, I’m walking 2.5 miles every day building core strength before I get back on my skates. Cannot emphasis enough how lower back and inner core muscles need to be top of the list. It’s now week 9 of lockdown and I’m itching to get back on wheels. Whitty appeals to me I’m a UK skater and a bit older than most in the skating world but I know I’ll be on wheels soon and hitting some tarmac. So well done Whitty shame your up country, it’s a bit too far to skate. So from Portsmouth late night skating club I wish you all well 👍👍

    Would you say you need to be in good shape to start out and would you say it definitely kept you in shape overall? Loving this video haha, esp. the wife's comments and the shrunk T-Shirt, and the candidness of it all. 😂😂

      Being in shape will help I guess. But it doesn't really matter. Skating though will help with your fitness.

    only thing stopping me is that my town is really hilly and doesn't have smooth / flat paths to skate on...

    • @whittyskater
      @whittyskater  4 года назад +1

      That's a shame. You can skate in hilly areas and non smooth paths but I guess it isn't ideal.

    What's the main difference you feel between 4 and 3 wheels?

    • @whittyskater
      @whittyskater  4 года назад

      Speed mainly. 3 big wheels tend to roll faster than 4 smaller ones.

    Sorry to spam but eager to learn ... Do you use special socks? Lol.
    And is your skate size the same as your shoe size?

    • @whittyskater
      @whittyskater  4 года назад +1

      Nope. Just use walking/hiking type socks. I tend to by my regular shoe size in skates

    - Your wife is just jealous that you are actually naturally cool without even trying, maybe she's afraid that someone might fall in your love ;)
    - I started dreaming about owning and trying out a skate in March 2018, but back then, I had been with my girlfriend for 1 year without a formal engagement (which is an issue in Egypt); so, I spared the money I got for the engagement expenses. And I forced myself to forget about skating, without realizing that it's going to be temporarily.
    - When we were out taking a stroll downtown January this year (right after I finished my obligatory military service), we encountered a bunch of inline-skaters passing by, and my eyes immediately emitted a blinding-amount-of-light that was impossible to be dismissed by everyone in the street, my GF included. So she told me: "go pal, talk to them".
    - After getting some details from the guys, and their contact-details, I headed the next day to a skate-shop, which had a ridiculous policy of delivering the order after full 90 days, and I accepted, for me not to take the risk of ordering a pair of skates online (I have never ordered anything online before) and not getting it (I wanted to get a skate so badly that I didn't want to risk anything. (26 Feb 2020 || Powerslide Megacruiser Pro 125)
    - After that, like "inception" movie, I seeded the idea of the whole skating thing in my sister's head, and we decided to order her a pair of "Powerslide imperial one 80" online, which we have done, and to our surprise: it got DELIVERED 19-days-after! and I still have to wait (90 - 19 days) more. [[Though about getting my money from the shop, and cancel the order, and get mine online as well, but decided to honor the contract I agreed to, to wait 90 days, and not to dispute]].
    - 2 days ago, the shop informed me that they've had a problem with customs, and they'll have to send the skate back again to Germany, and to ship it into a different portal! That's when I had enough, I got my money back, and ordered online "FR1 325 Black", since I wanted to start skating with a 125mm skate, and since my size (46 eur) of the Megacruiser was sold out, as well as the Navy 125.
    - It will be delivered 10th of June, which is only 15 days more, and then, I will start my RUclips inline skating channel (or at least that's the plan), and will start showing you random parts and suburbs of Egypt.
    - I dunno why I have written my life-story in a RUclips comment, but, that's what I felt to do! If you have read till this part, thanks for your courtesy to do so, really appreciate it, and your channel is awesome!
