  • My name is Josh. Subtitles:16 languages. Lara owned this performance. She sang it with passion and deep feeling. I love her voice and how she immerses herself into the role of each song. She has phenomenal breath control as well. I can't wait to experience more of her masterpieces. Thank you for watching my reactions.

Love your Lara reactions! She's amazing vocally but also evokes such emotions each and every time she performs. Would love a reaction to her singing live "Broken Vow" (she made the song), and Caruso. I absolutely love how she sings with such heart and soul.

Lara belts a C5 in chest voice for 19 seconds. A D5 in mixed voice for 16 seconds. B4 over 20 sec. Full resonance and perfect pitch plus the emotion on stage, she gives us everything. She had classes over 10 years with teachers who are also opera singers. She lerned from the best. She also plays piano and guitar, composes in 4 languages and sings in 12. Thank you, teacher.
Ps:she composed this lyrics in English and Italian, her italian version is 10 stars, better than in English, in my opinion. Italian is her native language, she often cries while singing in it.

I know very well Lara Fabian as a music fan and I'm also a musician (I'm a French horn player). Your reaction and analysis about her interpretation is very strong and accurate. I like very much how you explain us your vision of a song based on your experience. It is refreshing to hear your opinions because, like Lara Fabian, you are able to see and explain the real drive of an artist and art. Your analysis are very well structured. Lara Fabian is in my opinion a unique artist out of this world. I'm a French speaking person and I know her music since many years (I live in the French speaking Québec province of Canada). Lara is well know here and she is an underrated artist on the music planet. Many compare her to Dismash. I prefer Lara instead of Dismash because the way she deliver songs are more delicate, subtle and poetic. Maybe it is because I share her language and culture (French culture) but I hope she will deserve her immense talent and dedication internationally in a near future.

Agreed, @pagejrb67. About 90% of reactors compare Lara to Dimash. I don’t think they can be compared, if only because she is a Dimash mentor.
For me, he seems really mechanical. It’s like he hasn’t quite got to the place that body movements reflect the words of a story we’re hearing.

You are so right about your feeling that she is different as a performer. I had some CD's of hers when she was an up and coming artist, and they were good but I never got hooked. Until I went to one of her shows and she is a totally different person. You are completely pulled in as an audience. She is also very expressive, almost expressionnistic but it fit her. I feel very fortunate to have been to one of her concerts. Thank you for your reaction.

It's a rutten world when a natural talent a force of nature like Lara don't really gets the chance to reach the audience she so deserves. She had the bad luck of entering the biz in the era of Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Whitney Houston. The record companies wanted to focus on the other 3 ladies and especially the team behind Celine Dion really gave Lara a hard time. They told her to lose weight and do stuff that wasn't her style at all so she gave up trying to become big in the U.S.

You noticed something that only one other reactor (that I can think of) has, about the very last note. It sounds like she starts to lose the note, the vibrato stops, the sound thins a tiny bit. She holds it together, though, and it's still strong. Maybe emotion, maybe just something didn't set up right? I know from experience that's a real test of your strength and technique and nerve, though. What a performance!

I can't tell you how many times I've watched this piece -- amazed every time, of course -- but until you pointed it out I had not heard that "little cry" at the close, just before her gasp (it's quite subtle and gets a bit lost in the instruments, I guess). You've added to my appreciation of just how incredible a performance this is. Thanks. I've been following Lara since I first heard her in Brussels in 1996 and she continues to astound me with her interpretive skill.

It's a love song to the powers that be that inspire her songs, and begging them to not abandon her, thus naming "him" Adagio and basing this masterpiece on the classical piece called Adagio in G minor. You can feel just how much songwriting means to her, which she has often talked about. "Before the light fades away" and you say, "there it is again, she's looking up". Exactly, she's singing to her first love. And lucky for us they haven't abandoned her all these years later. I would love to see a vocal coach react to "Llora" from her Mademoiselle Zhivago concert with Igor Krutoy. It's in Spanish and absolutely breathtaking.

20:33 - As you said that, I was precisely thinking: You need to here Caruso! The one from this same performance, the “From Lara with love” concert (They may be lower in image, and maybe sound quality, than more recent performances, but when ever choosing between the two: ALWAYS, always, always, always go with the “From Lara with love” performance, as they are all her best performances of any and all of the song she performed that night)
PS: I really love it when she does that $hįt with her hair! (Rita Hayworth: Eat your heart out!)

I think Lara's Mum is Italian and might have spoken Italian as L1.
    A WORK-IN-PROGRESS TRANSLATION ©
    __1__
I have no dreams, I barely breathe,
If you notice me, perhaps you wonder
If I’m not some scruffy, lost, group-home kid
I don’t want a life, that comes to halt
just cause you aren’t around, and going up to bed
Is like a deserted station after the train’s already gone
I won’t accept going to this place
Like when my Mum stayed out at night
And all alone I sank into despair
    __2__
I’m losing touch, coming apart at the seems
You come and go just as you please
I’ve no idea, where your heart lives
    Madness going on two years
    Yet you’re unscathed
I cling to you, I am deeply obsessed
    But exhaustion now setting in,
I pretend to smile, for this infernal crowd
    Drinking fancies drinks
But they all taste the same to me
And each way I turn, a new stranger’s face
    Is just someone else,
    Adoring you
    __3__
    I coming unhinged, completely deranged
I pour my life into your veins, you strike a match
I turn to ash, and you crawl off to sleep
I’ve lost my mind, come apart at the seems,
Every song I wrote, you took from me
You emptied me of all my words
You became my light, but my own blew out
    This love is killing me
If I don’t act now, I’ll die alone
While on a car radio, some kid will sing along
    To my own songs
I’ve no connection, to the human race
Like when my Mum stayed out at night
And all alone I sank into despair
I’ve lost my mind, I know that’s it
You took from me all of my songs
You emptied me of all my words
And now my heart cannot go on
    The walls are closing in
You cannot see, what once was me

She calls herself a songwriter with a voice. She writes music and lyrics (in french, english, spanish, italian.) On the surface, Adagio is a love song to a human, but as I understand it, it is to her musical Muse.
Broken Vow is her original that shows her upper range better than Caruso.(Both AMAZING performances in this same concert.)

Lara "the force of nature" Fabian is her whole name ! LOL :) A beautiful lady , multitalented , speaks and sings in at least 9 languages , magnificent vocalist obviously but also this lyric Soprano writes and composes her songs like "Adagio" we just heard . Brings me to tears every single time with how much in the zone she gets !
Lovely video and reaction , in case you want to listen two equally good voices i have two names for you , they both come from the same country . Just in case you don't know them already of course ...
Morissette Amon and Katrina Velarde respectively , i would say marvelous both of them but i slightly prefer Morissette because she can register whistle notes like Mariah Carey , but sustains them for up to 16 seconds .
Morissette Amon : Rise up , Akin kana lang .
Katrina Velarde : Go the distance , One sweet day .

question can be whether she is singing to a person? That is at least what this song showed me until now, but with her interpretation and her pleading up, the lyrics might well be not for a person but for/about god/faith. Imagine a nun singing that song.

Really good analysis. When you talk about Lara Fabian and Dimash you sais youdont want to compare. There is no comparison. They are amazing. But if you listen to PERDERE L'AMORE ruclips.net/video/uFbyGONXI7E/видео.html you can see a lot of things Dimash do. Thank you from Montreal.

Adagio is God and the song is prayer. It has much more higher meaning than earthly love. And you had to watch a clip not this one.

Please don't get it twisted. People compare Dimash to Lara, not the other way around. Dimash hasn't earned that honor yet.

If not for Dimash, I probably would not have learned about Lara's existence. It was his performances of Lara's songs that prompted me to watch her performances. I am sure that I am not alone. She is certainly great, I appreciate her as a singer, songwriter and a nice person. But my soul is only with Dimash. He already deserves everything he wants.

Totally agree.. The Kazakhstan singer it's miles away from Lara fabian level... Lara Fabian is unique, the Kazakhstan singer was smart... learned from the best vocalist in the world..
