    What about seasonal non-toxic/eco smart pesticide home treatments? would bats be affected? i have a log cabin and control cluster flies and asian beetles in the fall for the next year. also, can you affix the bat houses on tree trunks and attract? in northern vermont. cool product!

      Thanks for your interest in BatBnB! We are never a fan of any pesticides, but no it shouldn't affect bats aside from it might affect their food supply and they'll hunt in a larger territory to get their fill. Trees are not highly recommended because they are often too shady and offer perches for predators. See the hanging guide on our website for more information.

    Would it need to be sprayed with a bat attractant spray for the bats to come in? I’ve seen sprays for sell. Along with other company’s what makes batbnb stand out from the competitors? I currently live in a small apartment complex can it be put up in apt complex as well? And is it easy to remove once I move out? I’m very interested in the cascade how many bats fit in that one? Don’t bats carry rabies? I live with my dogs etc

      Hi Brian! Thanks for your interest in BatBnB! BatBnBs mimic the natural habitat of a bat, which is the peeling bark on a tree, so they are designed to be naturally appealing to bats. While we can't be 100% sure that your BatBnB will become inhabited, if you follow our recommended guidelines for hanging, Merlin Tuttle (the bat expert we work with) suspects your BatBnB should have an 80-90% chance of occupancy within the first few seasons. Occupancy rates often depend on the specific placement of the unit, but we've had customers tell us of bats taking up residence in their BatBnB within a month of putting it up. Usually, once a bat finds an effective home, they keep coming back season after season. While there are some types of bat "bait", most of these products are not backed by research and so we don't recommend using them.
      See our "What Makes a Good Bat House" page to understand how we compare to your average bat house: www.batbnb.com/comparison
      It can work on an apt, just be sure to get permission from the building. See our hanging guide for placement advice on the website. Yes, it is easy to take down, just do it in the winter when the bats are hibernating. 40-50 bats can fit in the cascade. See our FAQs which discussed rabies and how the odds of getting rabies from bats is extraordinarily low.

    Can you place this on a post?

    • @BatBnB
      @BatBnB  6 лет назад +2

      Hi Eric, yes definitely! In fact putting it up on a post is one of the best places you can put it. Try and get it away from trees and at least 12 feet high (ideally 15'+).

    Where are the links to your product?

      www.batbnb.com/shop Here is where you can see all of the BatBnB models. :) The main differences between the modes are the number of chambers: one or two. The single chambered boxes can comfortably house between 40-50 bats, dual chambers accommodate up to 120 bats, and the Mammoth holds 240 bats. (A common small bat can eat up to 1000 mosquitoes in a night). Also, the dual-chamber houses are slightly warmer because they are larger, and therefore may be more preferable for the bats. Once you've decided on the size of the house you want, the rest comes down to your personal style preference.

    That is great idea. But what about diseases carried by bats? Don't they carry rabies? Could they endanger my cat or dog?

    • @BatBnB
      @BatBnB  5 лет назад +2

      Hi! Thanks for your interest in BatBnB. The odds of getting rabies from a bat are extremely low. Please see our FAQs for more information on that. In terms of pets, if you place your bat house according to instructions, occupants are unlikely to be caught by cats as it will be too high up for them. Dogs will have as much as interest in guano as they do any bird poop, and are very unlikely to ever interact with a bat. We recommend that all your animals be vaccinated for rabies, as is common practice. If your house pet ever brings a bat into the house, call animal control to properly care for or safely dispose of the animal. Never handle the bat yourself.

    What about the guano?

    • @BatBnB
      @BatBnB  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks for your interest in BatBnB! Bats, just like birds, actually prefer to poop while in flight, so most of the guano droppings will fall as bird droppings do, out of sight and out of mind. That said, there will be some guano coming out of the BatBnB, which is why we recommend mounting the BatBnB above a low-use and non-edible garden bed or lawn. That way the guano will actually act as a fertilizer for the lawn or bushes growing underneath. The only complaint we’ve ever seen about guano is an individual who mounted their BatBnB right above the door to their house, so naturally they got some guano on their shoes… so that was a bad idea. Some guano may appear on the lower landing pads, but should mostly wash away when it rains. The BatBnB also extends an inch off the wall, so most of the guano won't hit the side of the house (if that's where you want it mounted), and even if it does, rain will help, and if it ever gets too bad you can use a pressure washer in the winter months when the bats are hibernating. In terms of safety, definitely avoid ever interacting directly with guano, just as you would avoid bird poop. If you must interact with guano in any situation, be sure to use gloves, a mark, and a respirator.
      Let me know if you have any additional questions!

      While bats are occasionally carriers of rabies, they are only a danger if people try to handle them. If you find a bat on the ground, do not pick it up! This or any other unusual behaviors can help identify when a bat is sick. Teach your children to never pick up a bat as well. Bats avoid humans as a rule, with the exception of the vampire bat found in South America. If you don't take this advice and are bitten, seek medical attention immediately as rabies is a lethal disease without the proper shots. All told, rabies is still a very rare disease in humans in the US. According to the CDC, 19 naturally acquired cases of rabies were reported in humans in the United States from 1997-2006. 17 of these cases came from bats.
